The Director & Staff of council of HCG and Amrita School of Engineering have arrived at an agreement for mutual co-operation in research, training and extension activities between the two Institutions for Development and application of quality benchmarks/parameters for the various academic and research works. Memorandum of Understanding was done between Health Care Global Enterprises Ltd., Bengaluru and Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru for facilitating collaborative research in Innovative Bio-Medical Engineering on 8th June 2016. MOU was signed by Dr. B.S. Ajai Kumar (Chairman & CEO). Health Care Global Enterprises and Dr TSB Sudarshan Head Research Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru in presence of Professor Ravi C. Nayar-Consultant Otolaryngologist, Dean, Center for Academic Research, Dr Vijay Agarwal- Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist, Dr Brindha Seetharam - Director, Department of Psycho-Oncology, Dr. Vishal Rao—Head and Neck Cancer Specialists, Dr. Raghavendra R., Consultant -Intragative Oncologist Dr. Shikha Tripathi Chairman, Department of ECE, Dr. Deepa Gupta from Department of Mathematics, Dr. J. An addendum to the MoU has been signed by Dean(Engineering) Dr. Sasangan Ramanatha, and Dr. J. S. Mathur, Head, KTMD, CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories, Bengaluru, which includes collaboration in research in the following topics: MAV Modeling, communication & coordination
With other MAVs and Mobile Robots UAV Positioning UAV channel model with CEM
Electromagnetics & Photonics Signal & lmage Processing Antennas and Radars
Dr. N. Rakesh being the person-in-contact with NAL initiated the process. This was followed by a meeting and discussion by Dr. Sudarshan T.S.B. and Dr. Dhanesh G. Kurup, with several scientists of NAL. NAL support includes using their laboratory for flight tests data analysis and simulation labs. Also Joint Project Proposals for funding.

Four students of S8 from the department won the FIRST position in the Microsoft National Col-lege Hacking Contest, "Build the Shield". It is first of its kind national-level hacking contest, hosted by Microsoft that provides students a com-petitive hands-on hacking experience coupled with real-life scenarios wherein the team defend and attack competitor’s servers to emerge as a winner. The team comprised:

Dr. Deepa Gupta (Department of Mathematics) as a Principal Investigator and Ms. K. Jeeva Priya (Department of ECE) as a Co-PI received the acceptance for their project proposal “Speaker-Independent Kannada Speech Recognition Tool” sent to the Young Scientists for Research (SMYSR) Programme 2015-16 of Vision Group on Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka. The proposal will get a seed grant of Rs.6.0 lakhs for the duration of the project (May 2016 to April 2017).
In the framework of the Erasmus + International
Credit Mobility Agreement, Mr. Sagar Basawaraju has been selected for research in the field of “5G Cellular Communications and Net-working” at the Department of Information Engi-neering and Computer, University of Trento from 12th September 2016 to 11th April 2017. This is a fully funded student exchange program.
Ms. Vandana Nimbalkar, a III year student from
Department of ECE has been selected for the 2016 Tech Top MIT ‘Make in India’ Bootcamp to be held from 31st July 2016 to 20th August 2016. She is among top 15 students selected for this pro-gram. The learning objective of this program are Making Skills, Problem Identification, Design Thinking (Solution Development), Team Working, Presentation Skills and Startup Skills. She also holds the award of Amrita Tide Innovation Contest through which she received Rs.50,000/- as a seed grant. She has interned at NASSCOM to develop an IOT database and at the college start-up VOPO Technologies for a duration of 6 months during her S6.

Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, is undergoing Summer Internship on ‘Transistor Sizing in FPGAs: Pass transistor vs. Transmission gates’ from June 1st to July 2nd 2016 under the guidance of Ms. Ponni M. and Dr. Madhura Purnaprajna.
Mr. Pranav H.S., a UG student from R.V. College
of Engineering, Bengaluru is undergoing Summer Internship on ‘How to reduce the run time of the automated transistor sizing tool for FPGA (COFFE) by optimising the circuits in FPGA by thorough design space exploration using circuit simulations’ from June 10th to July 20th 2016 under the guidance of Ms. Ponni M. and Dr. Madhura Purnaprajna.
Mr. Mohammad Wasil Malik, a PG student in
Nanotechnology from Jamia Millia Islamia (A Central University) New Delhi, is undergoing Summer Internship on “Photonic Crystal Sensing Devices” from 7th June 2016 to 7th August 2016 under the guidance of Dr. Kaustav Bhowmick.

UG students in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Netaji Subhash Engineering College (affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology), Kolkata, West Bengal are undergoing Summer Internship on “Photonic Applications” from 29th June 2016 to 7th August 2016 under the guidance of Dr. Kaustav Bhowmick.

IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) student branch chapter organized a seminar on “New-age Transportation
Electrification and E-mobility: Opportunities and Challenges” by Dr. Sheldon S. Williamson (Member IEEE PELS) on 16th May 2016 in the campus. Dr. Sheldon S. Williamson is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Ontario, Institute of Technology, Canada. In accession, he is also the Chair of Research in Electric Energy Storage Systems for Transportation Electrification. The presentations were focused on advanced power electronics solutions for Electric Vehicle, traction, batteries, ultra-capacitors, plugged and wireless charging and inductive power transfer technologies. Novel motor drive technologies and its controller designs for high voltage DC power on board electric mass transit, trains and trams were also presented.
