PLANT DESCRIPTIONGENERAL
The plant is located at Tanir Bavi, on the bank of
Gurupur river near Mangalore, Karnataka, India.The Tanir Bavi barge mounted Combined Cycle power
project consists of four (4) gas turbines, four (4) oncethrough steam generators and one (1) steam turbine.The grid requirements and the load dispatch advise by
the KPTCL load dispatch instructions decide the
operation patterns of the facility.Primarily the plant is designed to operate as base load
plant.The plant generates net output of 220MW electric
power for the grid.

Description of Major Components and Systems1) GAS TURBINE
Four (4) LM6000PC gas turbine and generators. Thegenerators are completely enclosed, synchronous type,air cooled type two (2) pole, 3000 rpm, three (3) phase,50Hz, and rated voltage of 11kV.LM6000PC gas turbine and speed reduction gear box(RGB) is packaged in the enclosure. The generator iscoupled with gas turbine with RGB on the front of gasturbine (air intake side of gas turbine).The LM6000PC gas turbine consists of 5-stage lowpressure compressor (LPC), 14-stage variablegeometry high pressure compressor(HPC), an annularcombustor, 2-stage high pressure turbine (HPT), 5-stage low pressure turbine(LPT), an accessory drive
gearbox(ADG) and accessories.

2) Once Through Steam Generator (OTSG)Four (4) duel pressure, once through, heat recovery steam
generator. The OTSG produces superheated HP-steam
and LP-steam. The OTSG uses no supplementary firing.
Titanium alloy tubes designed for dry run and no bypass
stack.

3) Steam TurbineOne (1) ABB single casing and dual pressure (HP & LP),
condensing steam turbine and one (1) water to air cooledgenerator. The steam turbine has no steam extraction.
1) CondenserDivided water box, titanium tube, axial type deaerating
condenser cooled by sea water
2) Steam Turbine Bypasses
Two (2) HP and two (2) LP pneumatic actuated steam turbine
bypass system. The HP and LP steam bypass is designed
for 100% mass flow at 100% pressure.
The steam bypasses are used for start-up, shut-down, loadrejection of the steam turbine and also for dumping the steam
into the condenser in case of a steam turbine trip.

1) Circulating Water System (CWS)
The circulating water system is a once through type sea
water cooling system.
Four (4 x 33.3%) circulating water pumps at onshore supply
the sea water to the deaerating condenser, G/T inlet air
chiller, and closed cooling water coolers.
Transformers
Each of two gas turbine and steam turbine generator has its
own generator step-up transformers, 11 kV / 220 kV, to
evacuate the energy to the grid. Gas turbine step-up
transformers are consisted of three windings each of which isconnected to each gas turbine.

Operating ModesThe gas turbine can operate in different modes:l Simple Cycle ModeThe simple cycle operation mode is considered on the basis of the
dry running of OTSG.l Combine Cycle ModeThe normal operating mode with GT and ST in operation.
l Combined Cycle Mode with Steam Bypass OperationThe GT, OTSG, water/steam cycle and cooling water system are in
operation without the ST. This operation mode occurs after a ST trip during start up and shut down
