Join the Krasl Art Center as we celebrate the 51st anniversary of the Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff, July 14-15, 2012. This year over 900 artists applied for the Art Fair, which gave our expert jury the chance to select some of the best artists in the nation. We are happy to announce that we have 70 returning artists, 28 artists who reapplied and were accepted, and 118 brand new artists! It is certain to be a gorgeous, memorable and enjoyable show. In 51 years, the Art Fair has grown from a small regional clothesline art fair into an impressive nationally ranked Art Fair with over 200 artists representing 32 states and Canada, and attracting nearly 70,000 visitors to Michigan’s Great Southwest.

On behalf of the Krasl Art Center board and staff, welcome to the annual Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff! The Krasl Art Center works closely with the City of St. Joseph, dozens of local businesses and hundreds of volunteers to welcome you and more than 70,000 other guests to the Art Fair each summer. Whether you travel across the street, from a neighboring state or across the country we are pleased that you have joined us for the Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff.
As you visit one of the 216 artists’ booths this weekend, please know what an impact your purchase makes. Every dollar you spend provides income to an artist who is supporting his or her family and making a living through the creation of fine arts and fine crafts. Your purchases today encourage artists from around the country to apply to this Art Fair in future years, contributing to the overall success of the event each year. Funds from the Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff support the mission of the Krasl Art Center, Bringing People and Art Together. Proceeds contribute to the presentation of original works of art in the galleries, education about art theory and art making, and the collecting and preservation of monumental sculptural objects. Finally, your participation in this event contributes to the State of Michigan’s cultural tourism which represents 17% of all statewide tourism dollars.
The success of last year’s 50th anniversary event earned the Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff the #24 spot on Sunshine Artist’s list of the “200 Best” fine art fairs in the nation. We have also captured the #32 spot in Greg Lawler’s Art Fair Source Book. Thank you for your role in this success. We hope you share in our excitement about the positive feedback we continue to receive from the press, our dedicated volunteers, talented artists, and the community.
Thank you for supporting the Art Fair, the arts, artists and the Krasl Art Center for the past 51 years. Our artists, volunteers, sponsors and public make the fair successful each year.

indoor exhibition: May 11 - July 22, 2012outdoor exhibition: May 11, 2012 - aug. 31, 2013The Krasl Art Center 9th Biennial Sculpture Invitational showcases 26 outdoor sculptures by national and regional artists. Sites include Krasl Art Center grounds, city parks and collaborative locations with the New Territory Arts Association in Benton Harbor and the Box Factory for the Arts in St. Joseph. An indoor exhibition of preliminary materials reveals the artists’ processes for these works through drawings, photographs and sculptural maquettes.
KraSl art center’S cHiHulY renewal proJectThe Beacon Gold Chandelier at the Krasl Art Center is one of only 10 sculptures by world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly in the state of Michigan and features 200 signature glass shapes, including the horn, split leaf and Venetian leaf in bumblebee yellow.
In 2010, the lights illuminating the artwork began burning out with increasing frequency. It soon became clear that the lighting system needed to be upgraded in order to illuminate this magnificent sculpture for our community.
Together we will raise $50,000 in support of the Beacon Gold Chandelier. Your tax-deductible donation will bring this sculpture back to life and enable the Krasl Art Center to shine its light on the community. You can make a contribution online, call 269-983-0271 or mail a check or money order to the Krasl Art Center at 707 Lake Boulevard, Saint Joseph, Michigan 49085.

Our heartfelt thanks to Batson Printing Incorporated for their sponsorship and printing of this Art Fair Guide Book and all the Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff marketing materials. We want to recognize and thank our Core Committee and coordinators who make the Krasl Art Fair possible every year. Artists tell us we have the best volunteers of any art fair! Thanks to the efforts of our volunteer coordinator, Sarah Eisele, our 400-plus volunteers give countless hours and energy to help make our Art Fair the artist’s favorite show.
A special thank you goes to our sponsors. These businesses, organizations and individuals commit their precious and limited resources to support the high quality of life we enjoy here in Southwest Michigan. We appreciate the many donations from various businesses that add to the quality of our Art Fair.
