Western Fairy Tales in The Land of Morning Calm
While countless artists and illustrators have already rendered
the timeless fairy tales we knew as kids, these renditions stand
out among the rest. Na Young Wu, a young artist from Korea, brings
a breathtaking whiff of fresh air to these familiar tales as she
re-imagines what they would be like if they were to take place in
Korea.

She uses the Korean illustration technique called manhwa (the
Korean equivalent of the Japanese manga), giving them an
easily-recognizable East Asian feel reminiscent of the ancient
artworks of her country. Her serene and delicate renditions of

Wu dressed our beloved characters in traditional hanboks and put
them in unique, delicately-detailed settings, flaunting the ancient
Korean culture and aesthetic beautifully.
Not only do they give the viewers an insight to the Korean art
form, they also give Asian cultures a way to identify with these
Western characters.
