In order to purchase a product other than a single ticket, you must have a bus card. There are two types of card:

THE KOLUMBUS CARD This is a smart plastic card to which you can add tickets on a continuous basis. You can carry either a personal or an impersonal Kolumbus card. However, if you want to take advantage of personal travel products you must have a personal card registered with your name and date of birth. The descriptions given later in this brochure will tell you whether the travel product you want is personal or impersonal.

Personal Kolumbus cards can be purchased at Byterminalen or Fiskepirterminalen in Stavanger, at Bytunet in Haugesund, and at all manned NSB railway stations. Impersonal Kolumbus cards can also be purchased on some buses and express boats. A Kolumbus card costs NOK 50 (both personal and impersonal options).

THE MINICARDThis is a paper bus card and is valid for shorter periods than the Kolumbus card. It costs NOK 5 and you can buy it on buses and express boats. The Minicard is ideal for tourists and customers travelling frequently for a short period of time, and can be used as a One-day Pass, Short-term Pass and for Island Hopping.

TRAVELLING BY FERRY Fares on our ferries between Stavanger - Vassøy, Fisterøyene – Stavanger - Lysebotn, and Haugesund - Utsira are determined by national fare regulations governing major highway links. If you want a discount, you can buy a Ferry Card on board the ferry in question. The card costs NOK 100. You must also pay the initial amount with which you top up your card. You will find more information about the Ferry Card at www.ferjekort.no.

Up to two adults and three children can use the same Flexi Pass after 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day at weekends. Before 5 p.m. on week-days, the Flexi Pass is valid as an impersonal product. It can only be used by one person at a time, but it doesn’t matter who uses it. This means you can share it with other family members, or with your friends and acquaintances. Kolumbus has four pre-defined Flexi Pass areas:

NORD-JÆRENThe Nord-Jæren Flexi Pass is valid on buses from Rennesøy in the north to Bryne in the south. You can also use it on the express boat between Stavanger, Byøyene (islands close to the city) and Hommersåk (zone series 100).

The Youth Pass offers unlimited travel within Rogaland on buses, ferries, local and express boats, and NSB’s local trains – all for just NOK 300. The Youth Pass can also be used on night buses at no extra cost. However, it is not valid on night trains.

You can purchase your Youth Pass from the day you turn 15, and up until your 21st birthday.

The Bus/Train Period Pass is for customers who travel frequently on the same route and who often transfer between buses and trains. It is a personal product, and can only be used by the owner of the Kolumbus card on which it is registered. Please note that you must show proof of your identity when you buy a ticket and during ticket inspections. HOW DOES IT WORK? First, you select a core zone (the zone you are travelling from), and define it as your starting point. Then you select the number of zones in which you wish to travel, starting from your core zone. You can travel wherever you like starting from your core zone, as long as you either start your journey or change mode of transport within the core zone. For instance – if you live in zone 4 and work in zone 6 and don’t change your mode of transport during your journey, you need a Period Pass for three zones. This means that you can travel from zones 4 to 6, and also from zones 4 to 2.

If you are uncertain as to how many zones you need on your card, we will be only too pleased to assist you at one of our customer service centres. You will also find a zone map at www.kolumbus.no.

180 DAYS = 30 BONUS DAYS!The Period Pass can be purchased for periods of 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 days. If you buy a 180-day Period Pass you will only pay for 150 days use. The pass is valid on buses, trains and express boats. Discounts are available for children, but not for seniors. The fare depends on the number of zones for which the pass is valid. You will find details of the fares on page 15.

Bus/Train Period Pass

Page 8: kolumbus

A Student Pass works in much the same way as a Bus/Train Period Pass (see the previous page), but is only valid for 30 days at a time. The fares are shown on page 16.

The Student Pass can only be purchased by customers between the age of 21 and 32, and only by those who present proof of their identity as a student in the form of a student or school ID card (with photo) or a certificate issued by the school together with your bank debit card, passport or other authorised form of identification.

The Student Pass is a personal product, and can only be used by the owner of the Kolumbus card on which it is registered. Please note that you must produce proof of your identity and evidence that you are a student when you buy a ticket and during ticket inspections.

See page 8 for more information about the One-day Pass. You can purchase a single ticket with cash or via your Travel Account. The Travel Account gives you 25% discount off the adult single fare.

OPEN TICKET – If you are changing modes of transport during your journey, you must pay the entire fare on the first bus or boat in order to get the discount. The ticket entitles you to free transfer within one hour. The time limit will be specified on the ticket. This means that the ticket is valid for a round trip as long as you travel within the specified time limit. If you transfer from a train to a bus, a single train ticket entitles you to a discount on connecting bus routes. No discounts are given for transfers from ferries to buses. You can also purchase an open ticket on night buses. GROUP DISCOUNTS – A 60% discount is available to schools, kindergarten and after-school groups, sports clubs affiliated to the Norwegian Confederation of Sports, as well as associations and voluntary organisations/charities of six persons or more. The discount is calculated based on adult single fare prices. In order to get the discount, the group must pay as one and travel together. LOCAL ZONE – A local zone is defined as a geographically limited area along a bus route. If you travel within a local zone, the bus fare will be only NOK 13, regardless of whether you are a child, adult or senior. You will find maps of local zones in Rogaland at www.kolumbus.no and in our sales outlets. If you are travelling within a local zone, you must make sure to ask the driver for the local zone ticket. It can sometimes be difficult for the bus driver to know your entitlement if you do not tell him your exact destination. NIGHT BUS – The night bus operates with special fares. See page 15 for prices. You can always pay via your Travel Account. That way you will avoid having to carry cash and you will get a 25% discount.
