Our group will be presenting two (2) technologies that teachers can use in the classroom for two categories of hearing impaired learners.

Answer: Hair cells

The first group is those learners with severe or (Sensor neural Hearing Loss.) This type of hearing loss occurs when there is damage to the inner ear (cochlea), or to the nerve pathways from the inner ear to the brain. This is the most common type of permanent hearing loss.

The second group of hearing impaired learners is those with minimal or temporary hearing loss. In many of these cases the learner may only need some sound amplification to be able to hear what the teacher is saying.

For the group with severe hearing Loss The Apple ipad is recommended

The Apple iPad can be classified as a mobile computer in a

tablet frame.

It is slightly larger than a (10 inch netbook) and does not have

a physical keypad.

It has a multi-touch screen interface as its’ basic input method

on this device.

In addition to its multi-touch screen, it is also programmed to be multi-oriented, so the user can tilt the frame from portrait to landscape according to his preference.

“Multi-Touch” means that the user can “tap” and “drag” items on the display by using fingers.

The iPad is powered by thousands of apps (Application Software) that allow this device to perform at a very high speed

Practical Application in the Classroom: ipad

During the lesson in class the teacher can communicate wirelessly with each student individually or with the entire class

In turn each student can communicate with the teacher. Thus the teacher can ensure that all the students are having their questions answered in clear and timely manner.

The teacher can provide immediate feedback to those who need help while allowing those who can work on their own to do so.

The technology can also be used in peer teaching where a stronger student in a particular subject can work with a weaker student.

Using the iPad the teacher can create Internet Workshops with Hot List which the learners can work on along with the teacher, other students or on their own and the teacher can give corrective and remedial feedback as the need arises in a timely manner to all students.

The Apple iPad can be used in the classroom of Sensor neural Hearing Loss learners in subjects such as Science, Math, and Social Studies and almost any other subject.

Practical Application in the Classroom: AmpliVox Sound

System The teacher can position the speakers in any configuration

because they are wireless. For example it can be used in a

Physical Education class out doors because of its 200 Hours on

classroom (the football or basket ball field) and be still be heard

by is hearing impaired learners.

Studies have shown that hearing impaired and also regular

students retain more information and have less behavioural
