The next day I called my parish Secretary and ran the dates past her, and they were open, so I booked them. Next, I formed a committee and set up the deadlines and when we would do our Church Drive, and the type of Church Drive (we chose to do a Soft Church Drive), when the Admission Committee would interview the prospects, and what meeting date we would vote on the prospect and accept him for membership. Our plan was: 1) to consistently ask members at every council meeting from July 1, 2017, for names of parish men who might have an interest in joining. The goal was to come away with at least one name that our committee could contact and talk to about joining during the next month before our next meeting—where we would report our results; and 2) to go to the Men’s Prayer Breakfast to recruit: 3) to follow up on old lists; 4) to talk to new parishioners who completed RCIA; 5) to attend the K of C’s monthly breakfast; 6) to run an ad in the church bulletin, and finally, to hand out candidate information cards after Masses. In August and September, we attracted two prospects (one each month) that wanted to join! We approved them at the next business meetings, then contacted the new candidates and asked them which date they could attend an Admission Degree. One could do it on September 21 and one could do it on October 22. I now had recruited at least one candidate for the dates chosen on June 29! I advertised and promoted our October 22 nd degree with both Chapters, with local neighboring councils, and with our DD who contacted all the district councils asking for RSVP’s. I put it on the Chapter and State Websites, on our Facebook page, our parish bulletin, and in the TANN. I called our FA. I asked everyone to promote this degree and gave my name as the contact. We found out that another council about 30 miles away was hosting an Admission and Formation Degree on the same night, so many went there. In the end we had one candidate and I DID IT by following the “RECRUIT TOWARD THE DEGREE” Checklist! It worked for me because I worked it early and correctly. This is Larry Droesch’s example. This is a great concept that works. Please try it! DYNONOTES www.cincykofc.org www.ohiokofc.org Larry J. Droesch State Advocate 937-728-7783 [email protected]www.ohiodistrict2.org

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NOVEMBER 2017
www.daytonkofc.org
On June 29, 2017, the Cincinnati
Chapter held their annual Degree
scheduling meeting. I was asked
for my home council (3369) to
host an Admission Degree. Even
though the dates I cleared with my
parish secretary for use of the St.
Columbkille parish facilities were
already taken by other councils, I
chose two dates that I felt I should
be able to get a room at our
parish. They were Thursday,
October 22, 2017 and Thursday,
March 22, 2018 – I had our
council’s Admission Degree dates
chosen. Then I took out my
“Recruiting Toward the Degree”
checklist out and proceeded to go
down the list.
The next day I called my parish
Secretary and ran the dates past
her, and they were open, so I
booked them. Next, I formed a
committee and set up the
deadlines and when we would do
our Church Drive, and the type of
Church Drive (we chose to do a
Soft Church Drive), when the
Admission Committee would
interview the prospects, and what
meeting date we would vote on the
prospect and accept him for
membership.
Our plan was: 1) to consistently
ask members at every council
meeting from July 1, 2017, for
names of parish men who might
have an interest in joining. The
goal was to come away with at
least one name that our committee
could contact and talk to about
joining during the next month
before our next meeting—where
we would report our results; and
2) to go to the Men’s Prayer
Breakfast to recruit: 3) to follow
up on old lists; 4) to talk to new
parishioners who completed RCIA;
5) to attend the K of C’s monthly
breakfast; 6) to run an ad in the
church bulletin, and finally, to
hand out candidate information
cards after Masses. In August and
September, we attracted two
prospects (one each month) that
wanted to join! We approved them
at the next business meetings,
then contacted the new candidates
and asked them which date they
could attend an Admission Degree.
One could do it on September 21
and one could do it on October 22.
I now had recruited at least one
candidate for the dates chosen on
June 29!
I advertised and promoted our October 22nd degree with both Chapters, with local neighboring councils, and with our DD who contacted all the district councils asking for RSVP’s. I put it on the Chapter and State Websites, on our Facebook page, our parish bulletin, and in the TANN. I called our FA. I asked everyone to promote this degree and gave my name as the contact. Assemblies that have qualified for the Civic Award.
A hearty “well done” to the following Assemblies:
Father Francis B. Pilliod Assembly 3273
Archbishop Nicholas T. Elko Assembly 2332
St. Gaspar Del Bufalo Assembly 825 and
Reverend B. F. Kuhlman Assembly 815
I look forward to having even more Assemblies
qualify during this fraternal year.
I hope that each of you will read the article by our
Supreme Chaplain, Archbishop William E. Lori in
the November issue of Columbia magazine. With
all that has occurred since the Supreme Conven-
tion, I think that this message is very timely.
Also read the history of the Ku Klux Klan versus
the Knights of Columbus. The false oath of the
Fourth Degree created by the Klan was a very vi-
cious attack on our Order. When you look at what
is happening today in our country, you know that
we Knights of Columbus need to stand up again for
the belief which we hold as precious. When prayer
is attacked in order to make a political statement,
you know that things are not good. When our Na-
tional Anthem is attacked as “racist” and the
Pledge of Allegiance comes under attack, you know
that it is time for the Patriotic Degree to stand for
what we hold as dear.
I wish all a Happy Thanksgiving.
Our Guarantees Set Us Apart
Knights of Columbus life insurance offers something precious few other financial products can – guarantees. As long as you pay your premiums, the policy proceeds will be there for your beneficiaries should something happen to you. That’s peace of mind, and that’s what we offer with every product in our portfolio.
We guarantee the cash value in your whole life policies will be there.
We guarantee the rates on your term insurance.
We guarantee the rate and your principal in our retirement annuities.
On top of those product guarantees, I guarantee that I will offer professional, high-quality service that you would expect from our organization.
Our Order is among the highest rated life insurers in North America. AM Best has rated the Knights of Columbus “A++, Superior” for 40 consecutive years. It’s a testament to our track record for excellence and security.
I would suggest that a principal reason that we were able to achieve those accolades is because we remain steadfastly committed to the vision of Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney by providing life insurance by brother Knights for brother Knights.
That commitment is an essential core value of the Knights of Columbus, and our core values permeate all levels of our organization. We pledge to serve our brother Knights, and their families, according to our Golden Rule: “In all my professional relationships, I pledge myself to the following rule of conduct: I shall, in light of all conditions
surrounding those I serve, render that service which, under the same circumstances, I would apply to myself.”
Take steps to protect your family and your financial future.
Fraternally,

On October 25, 2017, at the Town Hall meeting in Centerville, Ohio, Ohio State Council State Depu-ty Kevin Miller and State Council Advocate Larry Droesch presented to the La Morenita de Guada-lupe Council #16571 the Triple Estrella Award for completing 350% of their Insurance & Member-ship Quotas for 2016-2017. The award was presented to Grand Knight/Gran Caballero Don Maines, Deputy Gran Caballero Car-los Soto, Father Ariel Pico, and Trustee Antonio Crespova. This relatively new Council was started in 2016 by New Hispanic Council Development-Retention Director Michael Freil. On Sunday November 5, 2017 Father Ariel Pico made the Triple Star Award a Special Part of the Mass during the Presentation of the Gifts by members of Council 16571 during the Offertory. Fa-ther Ariel blessed the award, and announced to the congregation the Special Award given to this new Council by the Supreme Council. Father Ariel include the Triple Star Award to be on the altar with the other gifts during the Mass. This new Hispanic Council is helping out in St. Mary's Parish in Dayton whenever they can. Council members are making crossroads to bridge the communication gap which exists within this parish among the Hispanic and Anglo communities. This new Council is continuing to grow, and is reach-ing out to the Hispanics and Anglos in this community to make their Council even stronger.
HONOR FLIGHT FROM DAYTON, OHIO
Submitted by Dave Senger, District Deputy #11
Fellow Knights—I was privileged to be selected by the Dayton Honor Flight Committee to be able to go on
the flight to Washington, DC and visit the war monuments.
Seventy-nine Vietnam vets, two Korean vets and six World War II vets, along with Guardians and Medics
were on this November 4, 2017 flight.
We left Dayton around 6:30 AM and arrived in DC to be welcomed by 150 plus citizens. After getting on
busses we had a motor cade to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and witnessed the changing of the
guard. Our motorcade was escorted by police throughout the city.
We visited the Vietnam, Korean, World War II and Air Force, and FDR monuments throughout the day. All
our food was furnished by various groups including a sit-down meal in Arlington Virginia by a High School
Culinary class.
We then departed back to Ohio to be greeted by over 1500 citizens, Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree,
ROTC groups, Boy Scouts, and even Wright Patterson soldiers who escorted us through the welcome back-
ers. It was a very well organized and appreciated trip. Thank you for a fabulous day!

Worthy Knights – State Advocate Larry Droesch is asking ALL COUNCILS to start praying this at every meeting and/or events. In addition, he is asking that you take this prayer to the parish Pastor and ask if he will approve saying it at some point during the weekend Masses. Keep in mind that you would NOT be asking the Pastor to have this prayer take the place of other prayers unless the Pastor so chooses.
Heavenly Father,
Pour forth your Holy Spirit to inspire us with your words from Holy Scripture.
Stir in our souls the desire to renew our faith and deepen our relationship with your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, so that
we might believe in and live the Good News.
Open our hearts to hear the Gospel and grant us the confidence to proclaim the
Good News to others.
Pour out your Spirit, so that we might be strengthened to go forth and witness to the Gospel in our everyday life through
our words and actions.
In moments of hesitation remind us:
If not us, then who will proclaim the Gospel?
If not now, then when while the Gospel
be proclaimed?
If not the truth of the Gospel, then what shall we proclaim?
God, our Father, We pray that through
the Holy Spirit we might hear the call of the New Evangelization to deepen our
faith, grow in confidence to proclaim the Gospel and boldly witness to the saving
grace of your son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of
