December 2020
Grand Knight – Ron Wolak
Due to the pandemic, we've been saddled with restrictions on how
we can raise funds to support those who rely on our contributions
of charity and fellowship. In pursuit of this dilemma, our Brother
Knights
held a drive-up, take-out dinner that was both delicious and
profitable (see bottom, page 5). If fact, it was so successful that
we will be holding “drive-up, carry-out” dinner ‘number two’ on
December 12th, at the main entrance to the hall after the 4:00 PM
Mass and until 5:30 PM. This time our chefs are preparing a special
feast of roast pork loin, herb dressing, apple compote, veggies and
cornbread for the price of $12. This has a two-fold benefit in that
you're helping our council and also treating yourself to a
fantastic dining experience. Cash or check will be honored. Just
come to the main entrance of the Parish Hall and purchase your
meal. Please support our council by backing this fund raiser.
The annual Memorial Mass of Remembrance and the Celebration for
the Beatification of our founder, Blessed Fr. Michael J. McGivney,
was celebrated, on Thursday, November 12th, in Santa Maria Del Mar
Church. It was heart-warming to see the many in attendance to honor
our founder and Brother Knights that have left us (see pages 6
& 7). Two days later, we gathered again to celebrate the “Tony
Gasparino, Lest We Forget” Awards and pay tribute to the veterans
of our parish and honor those who took their time to serve our
Country and protect our Nation. Special recognition was given to
Council 10514 Knights: Tony Gasparino, US Army, Vietnam
(Posthumously); John Van Kooten, US Coast Guard, Omaha Beach, 1st
Wave Pat Martellucci, US Navy, WWII
It's hard to believe that Christmas is upon us again...and
that's a very good thing to focus upon. This is the perfect time to
reflect on Advent and direct our attention to the upcoming
celebration of the birth of Christ. Reflecting on all the
individual and personal blessings we have is the true spirit of the
season. Thinking about the beautiful area in which we live, the
great community, parish, our Council and Assembly members and our
supportive Pastor will help us appreciate the positive aspects of
our lives. Christmas is a time of peace, joy and thanksgiving, of
family and friends and giving to those who need that extra word of
kindness or extended hand of help. Let's keep Christmas in our
hearts all year long. We shall remember to be thankful for what we
have in lieu of what we want. I feel personally blessed to be
afforded the privilege to work with a great cadre of fellow Knights
and officers that exemplifies the true definition of what it means
to be a Knight. Father McGivney would be proud of you Brothers.
May God bless each of you this Christmas and keep you and your
families safe, happy and content. Merry Christmas Brothers!
Closing Prayer Mother, now that the need is at its greatest and
the powers of darkness seem to have free rein, we come to you with
childlike trust and implore your powerful aid. We consecrate
ourselves to you. Preserve us in the love of your Son, protect us
from the evil of this world and lead us safe to the heart of God.
Amen
Vivat Jesus, Ron
District Deputy – Kevin Ryan Brothers,
What an amazing month for the Order, District and the Council!
Again Notre Dame Council answers the call.
November Activities of note: Remembrance and Blessed Fr. Michael
J. McGivney Masses at Santa Maria del Mar & St. Mary's; Mass
and Installation of Officers at Mother Seton Council; all councils
are meeting and continuing parish support in many ways; conducting
poster contests; future events being planned well in advance.
Knights at their best. Well done!
As we head into this Advent and Christmas Season, let's travel
safely and remember those so much less fortunate
than us. You may just be that beam of light needed to brighten
someone's day. Please think about the great gift of Knighthood you
can bring to any Catholic man, that is not one of us. What a way to
say Merry Christmas!
I sincerely hope that this Christmas, and the celebration of our
Savior’s coming, gives you and your families the peace of the
Season and the strength to continue our great leadership role as we
fight and beat this pandemic.
Merry Christmas Brothers!!!
Vivat Jesus! Kevin

Insurance Check-Up for 2021
Where did 2020 go? It seems like it was summer yesterday and yet
we just celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday.
I hope you and your family had a great 2020. Now, we are all
preparing to ‘ring in’ 2021.
Hopefully, you’ve established a few goals for the upcoming year.
I’ve learned a great tip regarding resolutions. First, write them
down. It’s not too late if you haven’t already done this. Commit
your goals to paper and post it someplace you will see it often.
Writing down a goal is the first step towards achieving it. It may
not make sense at first, but I’m sure you have heard stories of the
success this simple task can bring. Whether your goal is to
exercise more, give more to charity, read more or watch less
television, you’re more likely to accomplish it if you write it
down.
Second, resolve to have an expert look at your finances. I
recommend that you have a team of experts help you, and I would
love to be the first you sit with. Let’s schedule some time to meet
together, and I, your professional Knights of Columbus insurance
agent, will provide an “insurance check-up” (at no cost!) that will
evaluate any gaps in your family’s life insurance protection. Now
might be the perfect time to fill those gaps, not later. Keep in
mind that unlike many other products, you don’t just need money to
obtain life insurance; you also need good health, and no one knows
when your health could change.
Did I mention the Insurance Check-up is free of charge? When was
the last time you received something for free that could provide
value to you and your family for generations? Call me today.

Prayer for the Healing of Loved Ones Almighty God, look with
mercy and kindness on our loved ones who are sick, especially those
listed here. Grant them good health. Send your holy Angels to watch
over them. Protect them from danger, and keep them safe from
lasting injury or harm. May the life-giving grace of Your Divine
Son relieve their suffering and bring them to a full recovery.
Embrace them with Your constant love, and with the power of
Christ’s healing presence, that Your bountiful goodness may be
their source of comfort, strength and joy. Amen.
Prayer for the Faithful Departed O Loving Father, Source of all
life, please accompany Your servants, listed here, from this earth,
to the Kingdom of heavenly peace, rest and eternal life that You
have prepared for us. Forgive any sins that have been committed,
and welcome these departed souls into the joyful embrace of Your
never-ending love. Amen

A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION IN TIME OF PANDEMIC
O Mary, you always brighten our path as a sign of salvation and
of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at
the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in
faith. O loving Mother, you know what we need, and we are confident
you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee. Intercede for us
with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician, for those who have
fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have
died. Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health
and safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick and
seeking a cure. Help us, O Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the
will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who took upon
himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows, so as to lead us,
through the Cross, to the glory of the Resurrection. Amen.
Under thy protection we seek refuge, O Holy Mother of God. In
our needs, despise not our petitions, but deliver us always from
all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.
