For years, KMC has been one of the more visible supporters of the Camp for Burn Injured Children, run by the Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety (WAFS). The Care Ride hasn’t received the support they deserve at their past events. Its purpose is to support the big yellow house in downtown Waukesha where some remarkable things go on. Not to make light of a very serious subject, but it’s a “one-stop shop” for child abuse victims and their families to report offenses, get the social and physical support they need, be able to tell their story just once to law enforcement and prosecutors, and get referred to alternative housing if needed. Not surprisingly, it’s called The Big Yellow House! Waukesha County was the leader in Wisconsin in creating such a facility about 10 years ago, and we’re still one of only six or so such programs in Wisconsin. Besides getting a really nice police-escorted ride, food, and entertainment, the Care Ride is as deserving of our support as anything we else do. Quaker Steak & Lube is more than just a Raffle Book stop and special Bike Night event: they, Hal’s, and KMC have had a great relationship since they opened – we’d like to have a huge show of support for that relationship in the 27 th . The Milwaukee Rally is of course a big deal for the entire Metro-Milwaukee area, and none more so than Hal’s, who always has the largest, most fun-filled site of any of the Rally venues. To pull this off, Kirk needs your help. We often talk about the incredible support he gives KMC all year long – this is the one time a year he asks for something from KMC. New stuff: several other clubs have been invited to join us on the Hearts on Fire ride (bigger IS better for the kids!). Not surprisingly, it’s called The Big Yellow House! Waukesha County was the leader in Wisconsin in creating such a facility about 10 years ago, and we’re still one of only six or so such programs in Wisconsin. August will feature another multi-day ride to Door County. In September, by popular demand, we will return to the Darien Cornfest. Details of the rides are available on the Chapter web site as they are firmed up. You can also stop at the Discover Wisconsin table at the back of the hall before or after each Chapter meeting. The Discover Wisconsin Committee

July was a large group as "45" of you joined together for Highway clean up- or maybe just getting a walk in before going on a great ride and then to brunch- Thank You to the Brunch Committee for scheduling and coordinating. Join us again on Sunday 8/10 for another nice morning walk and brunch ride. If nothing else is going at the tennis courts, we will again 'STAGE AT THE TENNIS COURT LOT FOR HIGHWAY CLEAN UP AND BRUNCH RIDE FOLLOWING'- highway clean up starts at 9AM. After a number of years as your coordinator for Highway Clean up, it is time for another member to step forward and take over this role-most of the duties and responsibilities are what you see when you attend but there are just a couple of other follow up ones to be done each month which I would go over with the potential coordinator-would like to fill the position before the end of our season in October so we have a chance to work together before my departure-Please contact me and we can discuss it further-your commitment would need to be at least for the full season of April thru October, thanks- see you Sunday Gary
Volunteer Corner
Thank you to the July Hog Callers Janet Sam, Kim Jalalian, Brenda Coartney!
STARS
Did you notice people with stars on their vests? Did you think those look so cool and think, “How do I get them?” To earn one you need to volunteer at a KMC sponsored event. What is considered an event? Here’s the list – Channel 10 Auction, Raffle book kick-off party, Bike Blessing, Support the Troops ride, MDA ride – helping with the signing of the waivers or selling the MDA Pins, Burn Camp ride – helping with the signing of the waivers or selling the Burn camp pins, Milwaukee Rally (one star per day), Colorama, Raffle Book party, Christmas Party, Hog Calls (must do it twice to get 1 star), Adopt-a-Highway clean-up (again must do this twice to get 1 star). The event coordinator will email me the list after the event. At the next Chapter meeting see me if you’ve volunteered to get your star.
We are known as the Chapter with the stars. So, let’s show off to the other Chapters we like to volunteer and are very proud of our Chapter.
Have a great August! Amy
Hearts on Fire Ride
Tuesday, August 12th – 5pm registration and leave at 5:45pm
Join riders from around the area at the Hearts on Fire Ride. This FREE and escorted ride will leave form Hal’s at 5:45pm on the
12th
of August. The escorted ride will wind through and around Waukesha County and end at the Camp for Burn Injured Children, run by the Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety (WAFS). It is quite a site to see upwards of 200 motorcycles approach the camp. Once at the camp, riders with trikes and sidecars give the kids rides and there are refreshments for everyone. These children are truly special and this is one week where they can not only feel like kids, but know that they are cared for by those of us who ride.
“It’s all about the kids”
From the Director’s Chair continued on page 1
Many, many volunteers are needed for parking, bartending, security, set-up and clean-up, and a host of other functions. This year the Rally is a star event – each day that you work at least one full volunteer shift (none longer than 4 hours), you’ll earn a coveted KMC Star for your vest or jacket. Sign-up will be at Hal’s front desk from now until the Rally, and we’ll have sign-up boards at our Aug. 6
th Chapter meeting. So sign up and get
involved: I promise you’ll meet and work with some of the nicest people on the planet!
Jeff
Your New Webmaster
I’m Arnie Schnitker: would like to take this opportunity to thank the Board for having the confidence to name me to this position. I will do my best to continue the great work done by my predecessor and I would like to thank Dan for his 13 years of service to KMC as Webmaster.
I’ve been quite active with KMC for some time now. I’m at most events, and am one of your photographers: I’ve probably taken your picture! I have been working with computers since 1963 and on web sites for about 8 years prior to my retirement in 2010. I have always enjoyed the challenge of making a computer do what I wanted it to do.
You will not notice any major changes to the web site but I will be reorganizing the file structure behind the scenes to make it easier to find things. Because of this you may, on occasion, encounter a broken link. If this happens please contact me by emailing me at [email protected] or calling me at (262) 853-6561.
It Pays to Attend At the July Chapter meeting first draw was Andy Spencer who was in attendance for the $175.00 gift card; second draw was Dwayne Hayes who was not in attendance for the $50.00 gift card. Therefore, August first draw will be $25.00 and second draw will be $75.00. You must be present to win; we hope to see you at the next Chapter meeting.
After conversations with the board, Kirk and Nicole (clothing manager at Hal’s) we have decided that going forward all merchandise, including patches & rockers will be order through the clothing department at Hal’s. This will streamline the process and remove having a “middle party” involved. The only exceptions are name tags and specialized rockers, which will continue to be handled by Cheryl Huebner.
Unfortunately, regardless of where the order is placed (KMC or Hal’s) many of the items in the catalog require a minimum number of items before a purchase can be placed. With that being the case, if there is something you are interested in, please let the clothing staff know. We will then see if there is interest from other KMC members. The minimum number of items requirement is only on KMC/HOG logo merchandise. If you are interested in HOG merchandise there is no minimum requirement. This also does not apply to patches/rockers. Please note that when placing orders you will be required to pay at time of ordering.
Reminder for those of you who placed an order last fall to please pick up your merchandise. The merchandise has already been paid for by KMC. I have both ladies shirts/jackets and men’s shirts. They will be available for pick up at the next chapter meeting. Please see me at one of the back tables before the meeting begins.
Dawn Makowski
2nd Shifters – The Second Shifters meeting moves back to Thursday following the chapter meeting during the riding season. We
will continue to meet at 10:30am at Hal’s.
Colorama & Raffle Book Party
Will you help?
We’re looking for “basketeers”. What is a basketeer – volunteers to donate items for the raffle tables at Colorama and/or the end of the season Raffle Book Party. We’ve come up with some ideas, so look for the signup sheet and idea cards see Pat at Hal’s. You do not need to have your items in a basket (we can do that for you) or think outside the basket at how you would like to have the new items you want to donate displayed.
Do you own a business or work at a business that could donate product, or a gift card/certificate to our event? This would be great advertising for you!
Please have your items to Hal’s no later than October 2nd or bring them to the October Chapter meeting. If you have any questions please email me [email protected].

Ladies of Harley - LOH
Wednesday, August 20th, - 7pm
We hope everyone is having a great summer! There is so much to do and so little time to pack it in! Recently we had an evening ride with the Milwaukee Chapter LOH group. We had a great time riding and mingling with the LOH group! Looking forward to other collaborative events! Thank you to all that assisted in planning and ensuring a safe ride! On Tuesday, August 19th, we have an event on Lake Tichigan. We will cruise the lake on a "three hour tour" starting at 6:00 pm. Guaranteed to be an event full of laughter and good fun! This event is open to any chapter member, but you must sign up prior to the event. If we fill the boat it is $10 per person and you can bring your own snacks/beverages. We will have a sign up at the chapter meeting or you can let Karen Ryan or Barb Brooks know if you want to attend. Our next LOH meeting will be on Wednesday, August 20th at 7:00 pm at the Ale House. Hope to see all of you there! Barb and Debbie
