“Disasters Don’t Wait. Make Your Plan Today” is the
theme this September for National Preparedness Month, which presents us with an opportunity to remind our families, friends, and communities to get ready for disasters and emergencies before they strike. Thinking ahead can help prevent stress and increase your overall readiness as an individual or a family. MCFTB is working to create a “culture of preparedness”, which help all aboard MCAS Yuma to prioritize preparedness efforts in their daily lives. So during this month take the time to evaluate your preparedness and learn how to protect your family so that if disaster strikes, you are ready.
There are a number of resources that MCFTB and www.ready.gov offer to help you implement the steps recommended for each week of National Preparedness Month.
Week 1 September 1-5: Make A Plan
“What’s in your Family Care Plan” (September 3rd at 1:00pm-2:00pm) - Emergencies happen whether we like them or not, “What’s in Your Family Care Plan” is a workshop designed to ex-plore who is required to have one, what documents you should consider including, when it should be completed and why it is so important.

Emergencies happen whether we like them or not, “What’s in Your Family Care Plan” is a workshop designed to explore who is required to have one, what documents you should consider including, when it should be completed and why it is so important. Registration required. To sign up, please call 928-269-6550
The local Yuma community members are encouraged to use YRMC’s website to send Cheer Cards to patients. By visiting YumaRegional.org/CheerCards, cards aimed at brightening someone’s day, can be sent to a specific patient or to an anonymous patient in need. To send a card to the latter, simply fill out “Any Patient” in the name field. Now is the time for calm, courage and kindness.
Baby Blankets - Navy Marine Corps Relief Society
From the comfort of your home, you can give back to our very own MCAS Yuma community, by volunteering your time knitting, crocheting, or sewing baby blankets. NMCRS offers a Budget for Baby workshop, in which every expecting parent/couple receives a gift that includes a baby blanket handmade by a Society volunteer. For additional information, contact NMCRS at (928) 269-2373.
Cards of Light
Bring joy to those living in elder care communities through a simple act of kindness; a greeting card. Create, decorate, and sign greeting cards to be delivered elders. What’s the occasion? Any- Independence Day, Christmas, or Thinking of you. Use some blank cards and art supplies, and have some fun! A personally signed greeting can mean the world to someone living in a nursing home with little or no visitors. Visit SecondWind.org for more information.
Home-made Masks - Yuma Regional Medical Center Orders for standard/disposable masks are in high demand and although YRMC is in good shape right now, they don’t want to get in situation where this becomes an issue. Many hospitals across the country are reporting supply concerns and also requesting for community to support in mak-ing homemade masks. According to the CDC, fabric masks are a crisis response option when other supplies have been exhausted. https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/News/video/volunteers-stitch-masks-health-care-workers-69681106 The plan of YRMC is to use these homemade masks to cover the N95 masks and extend the life of them. Here are the details on making and delivering the fabric masks: •Use cotton fabric on both sides. •Remember that both women and men in a variety of roles may wear these masks. Use various prints. •When your masks are complete, email us at [email protected] to arrange for delivery. You will be met in at Admin parking lot at a pre-arranged time. •Collected masks will be laundered. •Any excess masks will be distributed to other organizations in need, such as local nursing homes and Crossroads Mission. • You can still help if you do not have a sewing machine by cutting the fabric. • If you want to help but don’t have material for this project, please contact us at [email protected] to make arrangements for pick up. We are ordering material this weekend. Video on how to make the masks: https://youtu.be/9tBg0Os5FWQ Attached are the instructions and supplies needed to make the masks. There are other patterns online on how to make the masks but this one seemed easiest.
