Many of the clubs have been very active. I would like to thank all the past advertisers for their continued support of the Division and I welcome the new ones. Please remember to sup- port them. I have made 95 percent of my installations and I thank all the clubs who invited me. I look forward to performing the instal- lations of the remaining four clubs. I enjoyed my vis- its and admired the diversity of the clubs in our Division. Each club has its own individual pulse to get the job done in helping the community. I will be emailing the presidents and secretaries this edition of the News Letter in a PDF format. Please forward this to your members as well as to any potential members. By forwarding the news let- ter to potential members, it may peak their interest in our Kiwanis Family. In this issue you will see photos of Kiwanis Clubs of Queens West in action. Glendale and Howard Beach had wonderful Halloween parades which cer- tainly left a mark on their communities. You will see listed some upcoming events for the clubs. Please try to support these events when you can. Our past Lieutenant Governor, Steve Sirgiovanni, once again will be chairing the division visit to Ronald Mc Donald House in December. The date and time will be announced. Also you will find a message from our “1000 plus members” Immediate Past Governor Joe Aiello who is now chairing the formula team on growth. We need to retain these new members as well as gain new ones. Each club should appoint a new mem- bership chair and a member’s retention chair. The roll of the retention chair is to contact the new members to see if the club is meeting their needs and expectations and to assist them in getting involved in the events of the club. I would like each club to send me the complete contact information of for both chairs At this time I would like to thank, our Glendale Member Lou Di Rico of Arland Printing for putting together a great news letter and also in PDF format. Our next Division Meeting will be Dec 15th and will be hosted by the Woodside club at Donovan's. This is our traditional Holiday Event and promis- es to be lots of fun. November is the month to be thankful, count our blessings and to reflect on how fortunate we are. We should also ponder on how our Kiwanis Family can help others, not only for the up coming Holidays but for the whole year for the act of giv- ing is its own reward. Your Kindness Is Truly Appreciated!!
THE FORMULA - LOVE IT, SHARE IT, LIVE IT. THE KIWANIS EXPERIENCE
IP GOVERNOR JOE AIELLO
I welcome our NY Kiwanis Family to the FORMULA. As the chair of the Formula, I want to share our Vision,Mission, and Goal for 2014-2015 year. Our Governor has entrusted me to lead the District with DPG JoeEppolito to strengthen our District in growth and club building. Each Lt. Governor and President should have received the contact information on the Formula team. If not, contact Joe Eppolito.
We have chosen the goal of 1,100 NEW MEMBERS, 6 NEW CLUBS. These Goals can be reached because of the PASSION, DYNAMICS, DEDICATION, MOTIVATION, ENERGY, and HEART. We have the talent to make our Kiwanis family #1! How are we going to do this? We built 5 clubs and 1,056 members 2013-2014. Now, we need to focus, educate and retain. There is nothing we can’t do.
But, we need to start NOW. Not next week. TODAY! I urge all the LT. Governors to be creative, think out of the box. Work with your club Presidents, set Goals, Recognize & Incentives. I know all of you have your best interest for the Divisions. Just think, making your clubs stronger makes a better community and for the youth. The Formula team is here for your use to assist you in every way. As, I did in the past, I’m willing to visit your Divisional meeting to motivate, retain, and educate. You can’t do this alone get support from the team.
NEW CLUB BUILDERS: Are in every Division, the team will not start to build a club, without your knowledge or your input. Once club is built it will fall under the Lt. Governor. The club builders are in place tosupport and canvas the locations in your community. Also assist clubs that are small or on a verge of closing orboard action. Mentor clubs to keep stability.
CLUB COUNSELORS: Are in every Division, assist smaller clubs, clubs that may need assistance, bring club to Charter strength. They mentor new clubs, educate, and retain membership. The team will do this if invited bythe President. The Lt. Governor must be notified. It’s up to the Lt. Governor to invite a counselor to step in.
MEMBERSHIP CHAIR: Lt. Governor Elect Julie Watterson (Three Village- Brookhaven Township Suffolk LI) [email protected]; 108 Fawn Ln. E., South Setauket 11720 - 631-987-2442. Julie is the NY District Membership Chair. Julie will be sending out potential member inquiries from K. International. The contacts will be sent to Presidents, and Lt. Governors. You need to follow up with those potential members and report back to Julie timely with a copy of your new member application to be sent to Julie for recognition. Also, send any deletes with contact information. Club Counselors can see why a member left or maybe to bring back a member.
NCB CHAIR: DPG Joseph EPPOLITO will lead the NCB TEAM Building clubs is his specialty. Joe will send out updates, stats, new club locations. Joe will make team member changes if needed. He will work closely with the class of LT. Governors, NCB, C/C and the Zone Chairs. The magic number is 6 for the year. [email protected]; Cell: 315-652-5940
FORMULA CHAIR: IP GOVERNOR JOE AIELLO; 516-622-6758; [email protected] to oversee theFormula; to assure we reach our Goals; to strengthen our District by 1,100 members; to educate, motivate andretain; to get all the team to Focus and Believe! We will succeed and close the back door. We have thecapabilities to be CHAMPIONS. WE ARE.
The Formula Training Meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 19th at the Atlas Park
Community Center at 7:00 pm, 3rd Floor, Room 213. Mr. Layton Lee from Kiwanis International
will be the instructor. We urge every club to have at least 2-3 representatives at this meeting.
Key Club NewsHello Queens West!
My name is Cindy Pietrakowski and I am currently serving as the Lieutenant Governor of Division 8-A in KeyClub. Key Club has currently passed the half way mark of our service year and our clubs are pushing to squeeze inas many fundraisers, service project, and events as possible. After recently being exposed to the organization “TheThirst Project”, our officers have started an initiative to join together and brainstorm ways to donate enough moneyto build an entire well in the country of Swaziland. This organization helps the water crisis in under developednations, and has a focus on education through exposure to students. From inter-clubbing with dance fundraisers towalk-a-thon with water jugs, definitely ask clubs about their plans and encourage them to become involved.
Being the start of the school year our clubs are also in their busiest recruitment season an, with Key Club weekcoming up, advertisements about the organizations will be at their prime. Clubs will be contacting their sponsoring
Kiwanis clubs to discuss plans to incorporate the K-Family into their Key Club week; in the final year of the Eliminate campaign extra push-es from the K-Family are needed.
Our Fall Rally (division lead training conference) has recently come and passed. At Fall Rally club officers and members had tochance to attended a variety of workshops surrounding leadership and key club international, meet individuals from different city divisions, and speak to guests from the district board- including District Governor Jacob Spencer and District Secretary Heather Farley. As I said beforewe are done with over half of our service year, which unfortunately means we are closer to the end of the year. On the bright side that meansthat our annual Leadership Training Conference in Albany will be coming up! Clubs are being encouraged to begin fundraising, spreadingawareness, and seeking help from their Kiwanis clubs to register and attend the conference.
Finally on behalf of the division as a whole - Thank you! We have such an amazing Kiwanis division behind us, and amazing spon-soring clubs. We are proud to be able to work with all of you!
