THESE HANDS By: Johnny Cash
Dedicated to the memories
of Aunt Winnie.
These hands aren’t the hands of a gentlewoman,
These hands are calloused and old.
These hands raised a family; These hands built a home.
Now these hands raise to praise the Lord.
These hands won the heart of her loved one,
And with hers they were never alone.
If these hands filled their task, then what more could you ask?
For these fingers have worked to the bone.

Child Behavior – A few tips for parents
Getting Kids to Listen
Has your child become “parent deaf”?? Here is an idea…. Next time you need to make your point..
lower your voice. Your change in tone will increase their focus on what you are saying.
Strong Willed Children
Many oppositional children are just bored. Give positive outlets for their energy and positive respons-
es to their appropriate behavior can shift that negative energy. Get the kids outside and try to use a
little humor.
Competing Kids
Focus your love on your children for who they are… not what they accomplish.. Kids need to know they
are loved for just being themselves. When parents praise only for accomplishments like good grades
or sports trophies, children may not f feel valued for who they are, but for what one does. Increase
your child’s self-esteem by loving them for being who they are.
Children Love Encouragement
Children need encouragement like “plants need water”. Children benefit from positive reinforcements
and they also love to feel the accepted for who they are, not just what they do. Support your chil-
dren’s dreams and promote their ideas to others in the family.

and 1 bay leaf in a bowl. Pour each bowl in baggies, place on top of seasoning packet in jar.
Tightly seal jar with canning lid. If the jar seems too full to seal with the lids, tap gently on the counter-top to compact the con-
tents.
Cooking Instructions for Bean Soup Mix
Remove seasoning and rice packs, set aside. Rinse beans and place in a large stockpot with 9 cups of water. Bring to a boil and
cook for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand 30 minutes. (Alternatively, you may soak the beans overnight). Drain beans
and return to pot. Add brown rice, 12 cups of chicken or vegetable stock, and the seasonings. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer
for 1 hour until beans and rice are tender. Garnish with chopped chives (optional).

Bean Soup Testimony from a Kalum Community Member
“It was the most awesome thing to have arrived at my door and I was thinking about what to do for dinner and with being on bed rest I was dreading having to go to the grocery store!! This was GREAT! “
Kate McCarron and Family
The McCarron’s Version:
During the 30mins of beans boiling I cut up
½- onion
2 carrots and
3 celery stalks
fried up with table spoon olive oil
Added the seasoning pouch and 2tsp of curry powder to it as well remove from heat and set aside
Pan fried cut up chicken sausages and then once beans were drained, added my rice, chicken stock etc added the veggies and then added the chicken sausage last before serving. Added more curry powder when serving.
Side note: There are more jars with a new recipe in the works. It would be greatly appreciated
if everyone could bring their empty jars from the bean soup to the Health Office to be re-used.

Kitsumkalum Band Notice to Slow Down
Motorist slow down to posted speed limits.
During the past few weeks there has been noticed traffic running back and forth really
speeding and endangering others that are out there, and the safety of the smaller children
has to be there from all of the community weather its your child or not.
There has been and increase in the off road motor bikes and ATV traffic these machines
have been noticed going up and down the band streets in speeds 30,40,50 to their max
speeds per hour if these machines hit people at these speeds it will cause severe injury or
death. Some parent or elder know who's involved speak to them.
Some of these same off road machines run back and forth all night long with the loud
muffler keeping all people awake at night and usually they are connected to the partier
group, stop and park it.
If this doesn't stop at once then there will be no unlicensed machinery on band streets,
people you are the eyes and mouth for the children.

Throughout the year, disease outbreaks can occur in Northern Health Authority’s healthcare facilities, either residential, long term care or in the hospital.
To reduce the risk of spreading disease, visitors should:
1. Read signs posted at facility entrances. These signs have important instructions for visitors.
2. Wash your hands at hand washing stations often.
3. Report to nursing station before visiting friends/family, for important information about your sick family or friends.
4. Please read the pink NHA Infection Control Transmission Precautions sign outside your sick family/friend’s door, and follow the instructions.
5. Go home right away after visiting one room of family/friends only.
6. Do not bring children into the facility during an outbreak.
At all times, if you are sick, go home without visiting.
With both community and NHA healthcare facilities working together, disease outbreaks can be controlled and ended quickly.
Please contact NHA IC Regional Manager as below with any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your help and cooperation!
