Only use the voltage specified as correct for the instrument. The requiredvoltage is imprinted on the power adapter included.

Use the specified power adapter only. Using the wrong power adapter can

result in overheating or damage to the instrument. Check the electric plug periodically and remove any dirt or dust which mayhave accumulated on it.

Do not place the AC adapter cord near heat sources such as heaters orradiators, and do not excessively bend or otherwise damage the cord, placeheavy objects on it, or place it in a position where anyone could walk on, trip

over, or roll anything over it.

POWER SUPPLY / AC POWER ADAPTER

Do not expose the instrument to rain, use it near water or in damp or wetconditions, or place containers with liquids which might spill into any

openings. If any liquid such as water seeps into the instrument, turn off the

power immediately and unplug the power cord from the AC outlet. Never insert or remove an electric plug with wet hands.

WATER WARNING

Do not put flammable items, such as candles, on the unit. A combustible itemmay fall over and cause a fire.

FIRE WARNING

Do not open the instrument or attempt to disassemble the internal parts ormodify them in any way. The instrument contains no user-serviceable parts. Ifit should appear to be malfunctioning, discontinue use immediately.

Misa Digital Instruments cannot be held responsible for damage caused by improper use or modifications to the instrument.ALWAYS TURN THE POWER OFF WHEN THE INSTRUMENT IS NOT IN USE.

When removing the electric plug from the instrument or an outlet, always

hold the plug itself and not the cord. Unplug the AC power adapter when not using the instrument, or duringelectrical storms. Do not connect the instrument to an electrical outlet using a

multiple-connector. Doing so can result in lower sound quality, or possibly

cause overheating in the outlet.

POWER SUPPLY / AC POWER ADAPTER When cleaning the instrument, use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use paint

thinners, solvents, cleaning fluids, or chemical-impregnated wiping cloths. Do not place the instrument in an unstable position where it mightaccidentally fall over. Do not rest your weight on, or place heavy objects on the instrument, and do

not use excessive force on the buttons, switches or connectors.

Do not use the instrument/device or headphones for a long period of time ata high or uncomfortable volume level, since this can cause permanent hearing

loss. If you experience any hearing loss or ringing in the ears, consult aphysician.

HANDLING AND MAINTENANCE

Before connecting the instrument to other electronic components, turn offthe power for all components. Before turning the power on or off for allcomponents, set all volume levels to minimum. Also, be sure to set the

volumes of all components at their minimum levels and gradually raise thevolume controls while playing the instrument to set the desired listening level.

Touchscreen Indicates the current playing mode and variousconfiguration settings of Kitara.

Neck Each of the 144 note buttons designates a musical tone.The default tuning is the same as a regular guitar.

Strap hooks To attach a guitar strap to the strap hooks.(note: strap hooks can be swapped for left-handed users)

USB port Connect USB cable (included) to your PC to allow filetransfer or firmware update.

BASIC OPERATION

When first switching on Kitara, the instrument will default to Touchpad Mode.The screen will be blue.

Pressing on the touchpad will play the highest note pressed on each ofthe six strings.

Pressing on a string will play the corresponding note, similar to a guitar stringon a traditional guitar.Press a note key on the neck to increase the tone pitch ofof the string block.

In Tap Mode, the general operation is the same as in Standard Play Mode, exceptthat notes on Kitaras neck immediately plays regardless of any fingers beingpressed on the touch panel. It is useful for the two-handed tapping technique.

The Touchpad, Strings and X/Y ball control are a different colour in Tap Mode.

Dragging the X/Y ball will modify various sound parameters. This isdetermined by the settings in the configuration menu(unique for each preset).

To start the advanced configuration screen:

Press the two rear corners of the touch panel and select Advanced.

The configuration menu is divided into the following sections:

All the control and synthesizer settings on Kitara are saved in Presets. This includes:

1. Synthesizer voices2. Effects parameters3. On-board synthesizer control assignments

4. MIDI string configuration5. MIDI control assignments6. String tuningThis means different presets can have different tunings recalled instantly, and you can build presets that are configured specifically for external MIDI devices.Once you build and save the configuration, you wont need to reconfigure again.To load a preset:

Select a preset name.

Press the Load button.

To save the current settings to a preset:

Select a preset filename to overwrite and pressSave, or

Press the Save as button to create a new preset.

To change the string tuning:

Press the forward and backward arrows to adjust the starting tone of the string. Each tone is assigned a note (from A to G#) and a number indicating the octave.Each string can be assigned to either the onboard synthesizer or an external MIDI device. This allows you to control the onboard synthesizer and multiple externalMIDI devices simultaneously by assigning each string to a separate device.

To assign a string to the onboard synthesizer:

Press the Synth button . One or more voice assignment boxes should be visible .Press an empty voice assignment box to create a new voice for the string (see Voice screen section below).To assign a string to an external MIDI device:

Press the MIDI button . The MIDI channel selector should be visible .Select the desired MIDI channel corresponding to your external MIDI device using the arrows.

The Synth / MIDI screen provides the interface to designate synthesizervoice assignments, string tunings and MIDI configuration.

Each of the six strings on Kitara is assigned a row. For example, thesettings of the low E string are the first row from the bottom:

A voice is an individual waveform that makes a distinct sound. Each voice has a shape, and a set of parameters that can be used to modify the sound. Each string onKitara can play up to five voices simultaneously. As an option, you can also assign a voice to play through an FX block.

The Kitara onboard synthesizer contains two effects blocks (FX1 and FX2). Each effects block includes Compression, Distortion, Modulation, Delay, Reverb and EQeffects. Each string on the Kitara can be routed through either FX block.

Let us use the compressor as an example:

In Play Modethe user has access to several controls via the touch panel. These are:

Synth Parameter Assignment

All voice and effect parameters accessible in the configuration menu can becontrolled by any of the above controls.For example, you may wish to control the Distortioneffects Drive parameter toincrease or decrease as you touch on the touch pad from one side of the screen

to the other. In other words, you want to assign the Distortion Drive parameter tothe touch_xcontrol. To do this:1. Open the Configuration Menu.2. Select Distortion.3. Locate the Drive parameter. Press the text label Drive underneath the slider.A new menu should appear.

4. Select touch_xonce to select it.5. You can optionally press the Inverse button to reverse the direction of thecontrol6. Press touch_xonce again to confirm. The menu should close and the Drivetext label should be red.

Now the location of your touch will affect the Distortion drive.

MIDI Parameter Assignment

Kitara can control external MIDI devices. A MIDI device listens on a particularchannel from 1 to 16, and its controls are assigned Control Change (CC)numbers. For example, your MIDI device may have a Distortion Drive knobassigned to CC16. (Please see your MIDI devices instruction manual for more

details on its particular configuration.) In this example, you can assign any ofKitaras controls to this knob as follows:

1. Open the Configuration Menu.2. Select Synth/MIDIscreen.3. Press the MIDI Controlsbutton.4. Press the New button.

5. Press CC.6. Select the MIDI channel your external MIDI device is listening on.7. Select 16 from the Control Change number selection box.8. Press OK.

The Kitara controls its internal synthesizer in a complex and very unique way. By default, the Kitara will not be able to control your external MIDI synthesizersin the same way without some configuration first.

This configuration is quite complex and varies depending on the exact MIDI equipment you are connecting to. Nonetheless it is vital that you understand theconcepts and follow the steps below if you want the Kitara to control your external equipment the same way it handles the internal synth.

SUPER ADVANCED MIDI CONFIGURATION

The Kitara has the option to control the envelopes of the sound in a special way so as to be more realistic and allow for slides etc. We do this by introducing a

control called stop_sound. By default, the Misa Kitara operates in Compatibility Mode which isnt so great. If you want a string to truly operate like theonboard synth, you need to configure a stop_sound control for it.

A stop_sound control is a MIDI CC control that turns the sound of a channel off. It does not turn the note off, it merely mutes it. The MIDI specification definesChannel Volume as MIDI CC #07.

You may wish to repeat this process for the other 5 strings, depending on your setup.

If your external MIDI device has been configured correctly, you will notice you only get a sharp attack sound when you tap the touch panel. And when slidingnotes, the sound is much smoother.

NOTE: If the above does not work for you synthesizer, it is possible it does not respond to the Channel Volume CC #07 message. In this case, please consultyour user manual for an equivalent control number that will work and substitute it in step 7 above.

Press the MIDI Controlsbutton to show the MIDI Control screen. Press New.

Open the Advanced ConfigurationScreen. Open the Synth/MIDIScreen.

Press OK.

Choose the Control Number in this case #07. For Value, choose the default value you wish to set the Channel Volume(usually 127 is fine).

Under control Type, choose stop_sound. Select the string number you want to control.

1. Some synthesizers such as the Yamaha Motif make it possible to play the same note more than once on a single channel. This is incorrrect behaviour whenused in conjunction with the Kitara. To solve this problem, you must enter the voice configuration menu and set Key Assign Modeto single.

2. If you are using stop_sound controls and you find the sound is fading out unless you continuously tap the touch panel, it is because the sustain level (ADSR) ofyour synthesizer is set very low, or to zero. You should increase this value to a level that suits the particular sound.

3. If your synthesizer is only outputting maximum one note in total, even though you press buttons across multiple strings, it means you have set the synthesizerto an incorrect mode. Most likely omni mode. Omni mode means your synthesizer will receive input from all MIDI channels and treat them as a single channel.As described above, the Misa Kitara requires 6 individual channels one per string to function properly.

You need to switch off omni mode, and enable your synthesizer to listen on six MIDI channels. Sometimes (for example, in the case of the Yamaha Motif) thisrequires setting individual synthesizer voices to each of the channels.

TROUBLESHOOTING

This section covers some of the issues that can occur with Kitara, and the troubleshooting stepsyou can take to resolve some of the occurances yourself.Use of force, objects or any heavy-handed items on the product is not necessary during troubleshooting.

Note: At no time should you disassemble Kitara within the warranty period to ensure that your product remains within our service and support coverage.

MISA DIGITAL INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY

What is the Misa Digital Warranty?

Important: To qualify for warranty service and to activate this Limited Warranty you must register your Product by connecting your purchased Kitara to a

PC/MAC computer via USB, which will connect to Misa Digital's registration platform and where you will be required to input and submit your product informa-

tion and certain personal details. Misa Digital reserves the right to refuse to provide warranty service if you have not registered your Product accordingly.

For consumers who are covered by applicable consumer protection laws or regulations in their country of purchase or country of residence (if different) this LimitedWarranty is in addition to all rights conferred by such consumer protection laws or regulations. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also haveother rights that vary by country, state or province. This Limited Warranty is governed by and construed under the laws of Hong Kong.

With regard to any of Misa Digital's consumable items that are purchased for use with the Hardware Product including (without limitation) cables and adapters(and excluding any software), Misa Digital warrants such items against manufacturer defects in materials and workmanship, arising under normal use of the itemswith the Hardware Product, for the period of 60 days from the date of purchase. If such a defect arises and a valid claim is received, Misa Digital will, at its soleoption, either:

2.1 Replace the relevant item; or

2.2 Accept the return of the item and refund its purchase price.

Misa Digital warrants the Kitara neck and body (the "Hardware Product") against manufacturer defects in materials and workmanship, arising under normal use ofthe Hardware Product, for the period of one (1) year from the date of purchase ("Warranty Period").

If such a defect arises and a valid claim is received within the Warranty Period Misa Digital will, at its sole option, either:

1.1 Repair the Hardware Product defect; or

1.2 Replace the neck of the Hardware Product, up to a maximum of 1 free replacement; or

1.3 Accept the return of the Product and refund its purchase price.

Misa Digital reserves the right to apply any fees or surcharges for repairs where necessary.

This Limited Warranty applies only to the Hardware Product. It does not apply to any non-Misa product or software that may be packaged or sold with the HardwareProduct. Software distributed with the Hardware Product is not covered under this Limited Warranty and you should refer to the licensing agreement accompanyingthe Software for details regarding its use.

You should not open the Hardware Product. The Hardware Product contains no user-serviceable parts and opening the Product may invalidate this warranty.

Misa Digital does not warrant that the operation of the Product will be uninterrupted or error-free. Misa Digital is not responsible for damage or loss arising fromfailure to follow instructions relating to the Product's use.

This warranty does not apply:

3.1 To defects caused by wear and tear or due to the normal ageing of the Product;

3.2 To damage caused by accident, misuse, abuse, contact with liquid, flood, fire, earthquake or other external causes;

3.3 To damage caused by servicing performed by any person not authorised by Misa Digital;

3.4 To cosmetic damage such as scratches or dents or broken plastic on ports due to normal wear and tear; or

3.5 To any unauthorised opening of the Product; or

3.6 If the product seal on the back of the Kitara has been defaced, tampered with, damaged or removed.

To the extent permitted by law, this Limited Warranty is exclusive and in lieu of all other warranties, remedies and conditions, whether oral, written, statutory,express or implied. To the extent permitted by applicable law, Misa Digital specifically disclaims any and all statutory or implied warranties including warranties ofmerchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. If Misa Digital cannot lawfully disclaim such warranties then to the extent permitted by applicable law all suchwarranties will be limited in duration to the duration of the express warranty.

Except as provided in this warranty Misa Digital will not be responsible for any direct, special, incidental or consequential loss or damage including but not limited toloss of use, loss of revenue, loss of actual or anticipated profits, loss of the use of money, loss of anticipated savings, loss of business, loss of opportunity, loss ofgoodwill or reputation and loss of or damage or corruption to data. Misa Digital's maximum liability shall not exceed the price paid for the product.

The foregoing limitation does not apply to death or personal injury claims or any statutory liability for intentional and grossly negligent acts and/or omissions.

HOW TO OBTAIN SUPPORT

Before seeking warranty service it is recommended that you utilise the online support information located at www.misadigital.com.

If the Product is still not functioning after making use of these resources then please contact our customer support team [email protected] .Pleaseensure you have your Product serial number and proof of purchase, and have registered your Product with Misa Digital's registration platform by following the stepsexplained in the Limited Warranty. Our support team will assist you with resolving the problem. If the Product needs to be returned to us for repair or replacementour support team will provide you with a Returns Merchandise Authorisation (RMA) number and information on where to send the defective product.

Upon receipt of the returned Product we will test it and if the Product is found to be defective we will arrange for a repair, replacement or refund within 28 workingdays together with a reimbursement of the reasonable postage costs incurred by you in sending the product to us. We will refund any money received from youusing the same method used by you to pay for your purchase.

Returns will not be accepted without a valid RMA number. You must obtain an RMA number before sending any Product to us and we do not accept responsibility

for any Product returned without a valid RMA number.

Any product returned to us which is found not to be faulty, or which is returned without a valid RMA number, will be returned to you at your cost and risk.

If you have data stored on the product then you should protect this against possible operational failures. It is your responsibility to keep a separate backup copy of

any data. Any data stored on the product may be deleted in the course of warranty service. Your product or a replacement product will be returned to you as it wasconfigured when originally purchased at its factory settings.

(a) Damage caused by improper installation or improper connection to any peripheral(b) Damage caused by an external electrical fault(c) Damage from use of parts not manufactured or sold by Misa Digital Technology Limited(d) Product purchased from anyone other than a Misa Digital authorized dealer

(e) Modifications to product not approved in writing by Misa Digital Technology Limited(f) Equipment that has the serial number removed or made illegible(g) Normal cosmetic and mechanical wear(h) Damage or loss during transit to an Authorized Misa Digital Repair Center or to Misa Digital Technology Head Office( i ) Units that are purchased from unauthorized dealers will not be covered under the Misa Digital Limited Warranty.
