Term 4, Week 6 Achieve With Pride 16th November 2020

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,

We would like to congratulate Jakobe and his family

on the arrival of their new baby boy Reef. We hope

you are enjoying new baby snuggles and getting to

know the newest member of your family.

We would also like to congratulate and thank Mr

Taylor for his dedication to our school and effort put

in over the last almost three years. Mr Taylor leaves

us this week to undertake an early childhood

practicum for his teaching degree and will not

return to Kirkton Ps as a teacher’s aide. This is

because next year he will enter the teaching

profession. We know you will be an excellent

teacher– remember we saw you first! We hope we

might be able to have Mr Taylor back to visit for

some casual teaching days.

We loved meeting our 9 new Kindergarten students

at their first orientation last week. Congratulations to

our senior students who assisted our new kinders feel

welcomed at the gate and helped the transition to

play and exploration of the classroom. We look

forward to seeing you again next Wednesday 25th

November at 9.30am.

This Friday we will hold an assembly which will

include the captain’s speeches for 2021 on the front

verandah of the school. Commencing at 9.05am

We invite all parents to attend in a drive in fashion,

watching from parked cars at the fence. The

exception to this is we invite parents of our Year 5

students who are completing their speech to watch

speeches outside of their car maintaining social

distance. FLORA awards will also be presented at

this assembly. Speech order will be drawn out of a

The children have been enjoying the golf

and tennis skills and activities that have

been funded by the government’s Sporting

Schools initiative and this week saw the

arrival of equipment of some of our own

equipment to keep—Two portable training

nets and 10 short handed tennis rackets. We

are hoping we will be able to secure our last

golfing session at the course on the last

Wednesday of school. More information to

come soon!

We thank Mr Hill for coming in on Friday and

teaching the Kangas about aquaponics

and our aquaponics system. Students were

very interested in how it all linked together

to reflect cycles in our everyday world. The

students are looking forward to learning

more.

Our COVID safety guidelines have been

updated—News and information pertinent

to our school include:

P&C meeting can recommence face to

face as long as these are outside school

hours.

Parents are allowed on site to visit office

and uniform store, volunteer in classrooms,

attend essential teacher/principal meetings

and attend special/significant award

ceremonies and presentations.

Following this advice we anticipate holding

our Year 6 farewell on the 4th December. To

meet COVID distancing requirements we

are inviting all students to attend with one

parent only in grades from K-5. If your child is

in year 6, we have accommodated for two

adults in our planning. An invitation will be

sent shorty. RSVP is essential for COVID

safety planning. Our last step awaiting is

approval to have all grades attend due to

the unique nature of our classes (K-6).

Guidelines at this point discuss only Year 6 in

attendance to avoid mixing of cohorts.

We will now be holding a Presentation

Ceremony Tuesday afternoon 15th

December from 2.15pm. This will be a formal

assembly to present student awards, special

awards and complete captain oaths.

Unfortunately, but understandably I’m sure,

we are unable to host the P&C usual shared

plate event and Santa is not able to

negotiate quarantine to attend so many

school events, so this traditional part of our

school presentation will not be at this year’s

event

Restrictions have not eased around

guidelines for students who are ill. The

guidelines continue to be:

“In accordance with advice from NSW

HealthExternal link, parents and carers are

reminded NOT to send children to school if

they are unwell, even if they have the

mildest flu-like symptoms.

NSW Health has requested that schools

encourage anyone who is unwell or has

even mild flu-like symptoms, to arrange to

be tested through their local medical

practitioner or one of the COVID-19 clin-

icsExternal link.

Students and staff with flu-like symptoms will

need to be tested and provide a copy of a

negative COVID-19 test result and be

symptom-free before being permitted to

return to school.

Students who do not undertake a COVID-19

test result will not be permitted to return to

school for a 10 day period. Additionally,

they must be symptom-free for at least 3

days prior to returning to school.

We understand that this may be

inconvenient, after all we as staff are also

following these guidelines for our own

children, but it is essential for maintaining

health guidelines.

I urge you to read the latest and most up to

date information from the Department of

Education in full which can be accessed

from this link:

Water bottles are required each day at

school. We are going through many plastic

cups and plastic water bottles at the

moment.

Not long now until the Y3-6 camp at The Great Aussie Bush Camp. Please ensure all

medical information sheets are returned as soon as possible and final payments are

made by Thursday 26th November.

There are many exciting camp activities planned, the first being a mud run. Please send

children to school dressed in an old set of clothes and shoes—Ones that you are happy

to have thrown out are preferable as these will be super stinky, even rinsed out, after

three days.

A final information note will go out next week with an activities list and students will need

to have a filled out a camp wellness declaration with them on the morning that they

leave. We will leave school to go to camp at 10.30am Wednesday Week 8 and should

arrive back at school by 2.30pm Friday Week 8. On this day you may pick up your child

from the arrival time, to allow rest before the Year 6 farewell on the same night.

This week we are reinforcing our Visible Wellbeing Strength of Leadership—

Leadership

“I take charge and guide groups to meaningful goals, and ensure good relations

among group members”
