KHS Swimmers to State By: Stinger Staff

Yellowjacket Swimmers recently qualified to compete

in the OSSAA Class 5a category at the upcoming State competi-

tion in Jenks, OK. The KHS Swim team, comprised of first time

freshmen and seasoned upper classmen, made their mark at the

regional championship in Edmond earlier this month.

Maitland Pickle and Racheal Clayton (freshmen) joined

seniors Jaryn Frey and Lacey Wilczek in the 200 meter freestyle

relay, finishing 9th to qualify for state. In the 400 meter free relay,

Frey, Wilczek and Pickle were joined by junior Kayla Coffman,

who swam to another state qualifying 8th place win.

Wilczek and Frey also qualified for state individually. In

addition to joining the relay teams, Frey will compete in the 200

meter and 100 meter freestyle. Wilczek will do also swim as part

of the relay teams, but will also chase the 500 meter free trophy,

placing 12th overall.

Yellowjacket boys also competed at the regional cham-

pionships and earn a birth in the 200 meter freestyle relay event.

Jeremy Wilcox, Baylor Graves, Sam Walter, Colton York and

Josh Howard finished seventh, placing them well within the quali-

fying bracket.

The 5A State competition will be held this weekend,

February 19-20 at Jenks High School Aquatic Center. Come out

and support your Yellowjacket swimmers.

Stinger Fashion:

Mackenzie Palmer By: Alma Atondo/kk

This week’s Stinger Fashion of Kingfisher High School

is Mackenzie Kate Palmer. Mackenzie is a senior and she is a

twin of Meghan Palmer.

Mackenzie always dresses pretty cool and she definitely

looks like she is comfortable at the same time. If you know Mac-

kenzie she is a very bubbly person and loves to laugh.

The shirt she has on is a white with gold stripes that she

got in Stillwater for $55. She didn’t say what store but you defi-

nitely need to ask her where if you are digging her shirt. It looks

pretty comfy. Her awesome jeggings are Silver Jeans and she got

them at a store called Angelita’s for $58.

Her awesome shoes that look comfortable are brown and

very soft. Her shoes are Minnetonka booties and they cost her

$50. She can definitely “rock out them cute shoes.” I seriously

need to get some of those for me so I can rock them out too.

Last but not least, her earrings are gorgeous. She got

these earrings from the awesome and affordable store Old Navy.

The earrings cost $10. Hopefully after seeing her outstanding out-

fit, you will go out and get like her with her fresh outfit.

Minecraft in Schools

Opinion By: Logan Hightower/ss

Minecraft is being used in schools to teach kids. It

has over 10 million users, and 15 million accounts. It is a

very good tool for teaching kids any subjects. It is being

used in over 200 countries so far. Even though it could cost

a bit of money for the school, it’s not like they are buying

Ipads and all of those electronics for it. Plus, paying single

player is free. It is being used for kids 5+.

What exactly is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a “sandbox” game consisting of

blocks that act as real life materials. It is shown in 3D, and

is looked in at either a 3rd person game or a 1st person game.

It can be somewhat relevant to the real world, teaching kids

how to do things and what it could turn into.

How can Minecraft be useful? It can be useful for

quizzes, tests, and all sorts of things. You could use it for

basically anything; finding ratios, in math, or making a rec-

reation of something. It can also help with the brain, as you

will need to remember things such as “crafting recipes” or

other items in the game.

Pax South 2016

Opinion by: Michael Sutton/ls

Pax is a convention that is held all around the world, all at differ-

ent times. Pax Prime, the biggest event of the group, is always in Seattle,

Washington. Pax East is held in Boston, Massachussets. Pax South was

held in San Antonio, TX. Pax Australia is held in Melbourne, Vic. It is a

huge gaming event that is held yearly in each of these spots.

Pax South was held on Jan 29-31 this year at Henry B. Gonzalez

Convention Center. I personally did go to this Pax convention and stayed in

a hotel across the street from the convention center. I will say this, it was

very heavily packed when we went to the convention center. They usually

have a lot of betas and alphas for games that are coming out in the same

year. I saw a beta for a game called Dreadnaught that is currently in alpha

testing.

They had a bunch of indie tabletop games that were in making.

These are your basic card and strategy games. (e.x. Dungeons and Drag-

ons.)

Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik were chosen by the committees

that run Pax events to host Pax South. They are the creators of Penny Ar-

cade. This is a web comic that has been running since 1998.

The Pope is going to Mexico. He will be making his trip from

February 12-18. Pope Francis is expected to travel to Ciudad Juarez last.

Juarez was once considered one of the top crime cities. Francis will pray at

Mexico’s northern border for all who have died trying to cross. Some mi-

grants in El Paso, Texas, will join him in prayer across the frontier. They

will then watch Francis’ subsequent Mass in Juarez in an El Paso stadium.

The purpose of the Pope’s trip is to bring a message of hope and

solidarity to victims in Mexico. This includes victims of violence, traffick-

ing, and discrimination. The Vatican hopes this message will also resonate

north of the border. As St. John Paul 2 once did, Francis will also begin his

trip by praying before the Virgin of Guadalupe shrine. After that, however,

he will be entering into uncharted papal territory.

Good luck to the Pope and may his message of hope bring piece to

many.

A Memorable Trip to Mexico

Opinion By: Alma Padilla/kk

After waiting so long the time finally came to go travel down to Acatic Jalis-

co, Mexico. The time of the year they celebrate La Virgin de la Candelaria. My visit

included celebrating and getting to see my family. I arrived to Acatic on January 27

around 6 in the evening. The first thing my family and I did was go down to La Plaza.

La Plaza has so many stores in ever corner and this time of the year they sell different

souvenirs of La Virgin de Candelaria. Shot glasses, key chains, purses, wallets and

many more things can be bought for cheap. At night starting around 9 everybody starts

to go to La Plaza for the celebration.

All you can hear is Bandas playing at every street corner. Everybody is sitting

around or dancing to the music, having a good time with family and friends. Vendors

are selling roses to couples or toys for the kids and are constantly walking around try-

ing to sell. There’s different food stands everywhere with all types of foods. There are

also bars scattered around for adults. Fun fact...the legal drinking age in Mexico is 18.

In the morning all the parades start to happen, a different parade everyday.

There’s a part in the parade were people from the U.S show of their cars and represent

where they are from. You see a lot of people from Oklahoma and California represent-

ing. My favorite part in the parade is when the Charros and Charras come out in their

horses.

Another of my favorite events that happen is El Atascadero also known as

“The Mudding pit” when everyone gathers around with their trucks and start racing in

the mud or just drive around until someone gets stuck. Big tractors stick around to pull

out whoever gets stuck. When it starts getting late, around 8 p.m., people start to leave

to get ready for La Plaza.

The last event of the Fiesta is La Guerra de Confetti “ or The Confetti War.”

Everybody gathers around in the plaza and buys bags or eggs filled with confetti. At a

certain time everybody starts throwing confetti at each other. Many fun events happen

in the Fiestas. I look forward to going every year for the Fiestas and maybe even living

down there. Acatic is such a peace wonderful town and very worth a visit.

Giving Up For Lent

Opinion by: Andrea Jimenez/ls

Ah, it’s that time of the year again. Yup, I’m

talking about Lent. For everyone who doesn’t

know, Lent is the 40 day period before Easter.

For all of us Catholics, Lent is a pretty big

deal. It begins on Ash Wednesday, which this

year it happens to be on February 10, 2016. It

then ends on Holy Thursday, which is the Thurs-

day before Easter Sunday.

To show our devotion to God, we fast, or

abstain from some kinds of food. We don’t eat

any red meat on Fridays, including Good Friday,

or on Ash Wednesday. This limits us to only

consuming mainly seafood like, fish and shrimp.

Some of us also give up some sorts of food

or anything we really like for the whole 40 day

period. I, for example, have given up social me-

dia like Facebook, Instagram, etc. I also gave up

pop which is another big sacrifice for me. Hope-

fully I can last all 40 days without these things.

Lent officially ends on Holy Thursday. This

year, Holy Thursday will be March 24th. Then

comes Easter Sunday.

Easter is a special celebration, and it’s not

about the Easter Bunny and hunting for Easter

eggs filled with chocolate. Easter is about Jesus

and celebrating and rejoicing him.

In other words, it’s all for Jesus.

Stinger Rides By: Teresa Rangel/ll

This week Stinger Rides

features the 2014 Ford Mustang

sports coupe belonging to KHS jun-

ior Andrew Deatherage. The red mist

beauty was bought by Andrew in

January 09, 2014 with the money he

has been saving up to buy this mo-

toring masterpiece

This hot red habanero has a

3.7 liter V6 engine pumping out over

300 horsepower that can be heard

vrooming on the roads around town.

It came with a factory cold air intake,

19” allow rims along with a custom

Raceskinz stripe kit adorning the

exterior.

Factory dual exhaust and

optional rear spoiler package tame

the tone and wind around this tricked

out pony. In the cockpit you’ll find

plenty of leather, a 6-speed auto

trans handling the 280 foot pounds of

torque

Movie Review: Deadpool

Opinion by: Martin Padilla/ss

Deadpool, the newest cinematic masterpiece brought to us by none of the other than Marvel, and when I say Deadpool, I don’t

mean the one that we saw in X:Men Origins. That was just terrible.

I’m talking about the foul-mouthed, childish, anti-hero we comic book fans know and love! There are about a million different

ways I can tell you this, but this film is just flat out amazing. We’ve all seen most of the other stand alone Marvel super-hero films, Iron

Man, Captain America, Thor, and at some point in all of these films there’s usually at least one dull moment in the film. The kind of mo-

ment that you use to get up and get a refill, or just go and get some popcorn. Believe me when I say this movie has no dull moments what-

soever. From beginning to end it had something interesting going on screen. It really amazes me how well this movie was written.

Another thing I loved was the use of CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) as a tool to make certain scenes in the film look good

rather than using CGI for the whole film which is a huge thing a lot of the Marvel movies tend to do. There are a lot of moments in the film

where the protagonist takes shots at other films in Fox’s X-Men franchise, and it’s hilarious. It’s like he clearly points out every mistake

that’s been made by Marvel from the past decade that we fans clearly did not like. Not only does he point out the company’s flaws but he

manages to break the fourth wall between the audience and the movie (he literally mentions it in the film).

The story was also told in the most spectacular way any comic book

fan could imagine, alternating between scenes of the present and the past

which ceases to never cause a dull moment to happen.

I think the only thing better than the actual movie, were the actors

portraying the characters shown. They truly did such a great performance,

Ryan Reynolds in particular was perfect for the role and I couldn’t imagine

anyone else doing it. There was also, a surprisingly great performance from Ed

Skrein, playing the character of Ajax AKA Francis. Yes, that’s right Ed, the

man from that God awful Transporter movie, but he was great in this! Por-

trayed the perfect villainous character meant for the wise-a** that is Deadpool.

Overall the film is one of the best comic to screen adaptations I have

ever seen. It’s in theaters now, but keep in mind it’s extremely violent and

crude. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fresh new superhero

movie that stands out in the most original way possible, and don’t forget to wear

your brown pants.

Summer Olympics in Jeopardy due to

Zika Outbreak By: Logan Hightower/ls

As the Summer Olympics get closer, people are worried about

the conditions of the Zika Virus. Athletes are saying they don’t want to

go because of the Virus and the possibility of them getting sick. One

soccer player from the United States International team, Hope Solo,

stated that if she had to decide today, that she wouldn’t go to Brazil for

the Olympics. The Zika Virus has been all over South America, and the

Olympics will be in Rio Brazil. The city, is being affected hardly.

Hope Solo is not the only one worried about the Olympics

being held in Brazil, as the Zika Virus takes effect there. As the Olym-

pics is being prepared in Rio, they are making the mosquito conditions worse. As they

clear area for it, they let water holes sink in, and where there are water holes, there are

mosquitos. The United States Athletic Committee said that US Athletes should be very

careful because of the problems that can be caused.

The Zika virus has been known for giving people symptoms of purging, fever,

headaches, and worse, microcephaly, which is a condition for babies that makes their head

small and may cause other birth defects.

Dying Light the

Following By Nick Bradford/kk

This add-on to the game gives players a

way to explore a country beyond the city of

the original game and twice the map of the

game.

The new story mode of this add-on is

good as the buggies of the game are fun to

drive and kill zombies with. The new weap-

ons in the add-on are fun as well, as you can

race the buggies and make them better with

improvements

Like gaming parkouring? This add on

lets players have fun jumping from building

to building. Adding a car to this parkour

based zombie slasher game works far better

then you’d expect. The cars are easy to sum-

mon to your location and it rarely fell likes

you’re in a bad place.

The lack of safe houses make you feel

not safe at night. If I were you I wouldn’t go

out at night unless you are better skilled and

have good weapons. Also you’d better watch

your back when you are running away since

in this game, the zombies are stronger and

faster. You will get more points if you go out

at night and survive the zombies.

The ending of the game is really good as

well but I wont ruin it for anyone.

Internet Dating 101 By Robert Haynes/kk

We’ve all considered at one point

online dating and the connivance of upload-

ing a few pictures of yourself and getting

requests of people wanting to date you.

Sounds too good to be true, right? Well for

the most part it is. A massive amount of peo-

ple like to go on dating sites and make fake

accounts for laughs... or so you would be led

to believe by most people who have actually

never gone to a dating site.

We’ve all seen those stories of innocent people going missing because they met

someone online in-person when the reality of it is quite different. I know several people

who have met people off of a dating site and they are in very happy relationships.

Don’t get me wrong, there are fake accounts known as “catfishes” but they are

also a lot more rare than you might think. Here are some tips to help spot a catfish few

people don’t even know about.

Tip 1: if you see a serious lack of photos with a person’s profile right click on

their picture and copy the image url. Next, proceed to Google and search that image url.

Presto, you’ll find out if they are legit or not.

But there’s more. If you have any doubts you can also ask them to send you a

picture of them touching their ear with their pinky finger. It’s fool proof because only a

real person can find images off of the internet so how are they going to find an image of

someone touching their ear with their pinky finger.

Now, they are going to do one of two things. Either they will send you the picture

or they will say “you think I’m fake...don’t ever talk to me again.”

Remember this trick as it’ll help you out quite a bit to avoid being catfished.

Top 5 Indie Horror RPGs (Contains Spoilers) Opinion By: Clairanda Porter/kk

An Indie Horror RPG is a published game outside of the mainstream platforms that consists of role playing that is supposed to

give you a fright. This article will consist of my top five favorites.

Coming in at number 5 is The Witches House. The reason I chose to put this lovely piece of work as number five is for the plain

reason that it is not scary at all. The game has its cringe worthy moments, but there is never a moment when it can give you a scare. There is

somewhat an unsettling feeling about the woods and the house you enter, but there is never fear. Jump scares and running for your life is

very popular in The Witches House as well.

Number 4, Ib, has a special place in my heart, not only because it

has beautiful art, but also because the two main characters Ib and Garry

have such a great relationship in the game. There is not much of a scare

factor though. There are a few jumps scares but the art of the game its self

is not what makes you scared.

Mad Father has taken 3rd place on this list of “interesting” story

based games. The setting of the game just pulls at you with the crazy maze

like rooms and dark colors. The fact that you play as a little girl, Aya, that

has no idea what her dad does other than “he is a doctor” puts you exactly

in the mood to find what her dad is really doing. There are plenty of op-

portunities to get scared while playing this game; the jump scares, music,

noises, and art are just some of the ways this game could give you a fright.

The game Misao has taken number 2 on this list purely because

the story line becomes so thick by the end of the game. As you play

through and find the truth behind the disappearance of your very shy class

mate, Misao, the game gives you an unsettling feeling, plainly because you know so little and there is a lot to learn. There are plenty of

“scary” aspects to this game, but there is never a time where there could be pure fear. Misao has its fair share of jump scares and the art at

some points give off an eerie feeling.

Finally, as number 1 on this awkward list of Indie Horror RPGs is Corpse Party. The name it’s self might scare some people right

away, but it is not as scary as it may sound. In this game there are tons of happenings that make you want to pause the game and rethink

your life or just sit in aww that someone would have the motivation to make this game. The feel of the game it’s self is very eerie as well as

the story line. Corpse Party is definitely the “scariest” game on this list.

Overwatch Beta Release

by: Michael Sutton/kk

Blizzard, the creators of games like World of Warcraft,

Diablo III, and Hearthstone, brings their newest game, Overwatch.

It is set in the distant future as a fps (first person shooter).

It is a MOBA (massive online battle arena) with several

different kind of gunners but, sadly unlike most of Blizzards

games, theses classes are generic a.k.a your tank, damage, and

healer. There really aren’t many different types of play styles out

right now due to it just now leaving alpha.

I personally have yet to get a chance to play this but I do

know some people that have. My friends that have played Over-

watch do say that it is very slow-paced and not as exciting as peo-

ple had originally hoped for it. Many of the online comments and

threads about it do have some good ideas for classes. It does have

potential from what I’ve seen but with how Blizzard has been late-

ly, I doubt they'll use it to its max potential.

Overwatch is scheduled to be released on or near June

21st, 2016, Until then Blizzard has time to change and mess around

with the setting and classes on Overwatch. Perhapsthey will make

it better then what it came out as.

How is it to work at

Wal-Mart. By Nick Bradford/kk

Wal-Mart is a tough but easy job. If I was someone looking

for a job I would work there since the people are really nice and you

get paid really good when you work there.

The boss is great and the cashers are too. Its really nice work-

ing outside as you get some fresh air. I get to work on my tan during

the summer but its kinda bad when its cold and especially when its

raining. I don’t like being out there in the rain but its better then when

there is ice on the ground and snowing.

I have probably fell a lot of times out there and hurt my arm

and back and its hard to control the carts if you don’t know what you

are doing.

Working at Walmart enables me to get an employee discount

and the raises that I get from the job are regular. I get to help people at

the job and I get to see my friends too...especially my girlfriend.

Quest for Camelot (1998) By: Lisa Baxter/kk

If anybody remembers when they were little ever watching this movie, Quest for Camelot. It was an animated movie that was

released in theaters May of 1998. The story was based around two people Garrett (Cary Elwes) and Kayley (Jessalyn Gilsig) and their quest

to find Excalibur (the sword) to return it to King Arthur (Pierce Brosnan). Excalibur has gone missing after the evil knight Ruber (Gary

Oldman) is bent on destroying Camelot.

If you did watch it you know it was a pretty good movie and it has two of my favorite actors in it Cary Elwes and Gary Oldman.

Mostly what in the movie was a lot of fighting, singing, and jumping from different creatures and people. In the end though it was pretty

good with a lot of great voice acting in my opinion which not that many people care about. But if you haven’t seen it, try to find a way to

watch it cause I loved the movie and I probably will always love movies with those two specific actors.

Oh yes and the initial DVD release was on October 20, 1998. Also here is a few things that I forgot to say about what happens in

the movie. The character Garrett is blind and my opinion isn’t that bad looking , even though he’s animated. It’s amazing how anime’s and

animated movie male characters are more attractive then guys in real life (except a certain two guys Cary Elwes and Gary Oldman).
