INTRODUCTION
Kinect for Xbox 360, or simply Kinect was originally known by the code name PROJECT NATAL.
It is a “controller-free gaming and entertainment experience” by Microsoft.
Aimed at broadening the Xbox 360’s audience beyond its typical gamer base.
HISTORY Kinect was first announced on June 1,2009 at
E3 2009 under the code name “Project Natal”.
“Project Natal” was named after the Brazilian city of Natal as a tribute to the country by Microsoft director Alex Kipman,who incubated the project,and is from Brazil.
The name Natal was also chosen because the
word ‘Natal’ means “of or relating birth”,reflecting Microsoft’s view of the project as “The birth of next generation of home entertainment”.
What Is Gesture Recognition?
It is a complex Artificial Intelligence Problem.
Its purpose is to:- Recognize a person. Obtain information. Process the information
conveyed through the gestures of a person like hand and leg movements, flapping gait etc..
TECHNOLOGY It has been programmed to investigate
photographs,look for a basic human form and identify it.
Microsoft relies on an advancing field of AI called Machine Learning.
This saves programmers the nearly impossible task of coding rules that describes all of the millions of possible movements of a body can make.
COMPONENTS
It consists of 4 components:-
1) RGB camera.
2) IR depth sensor.
3) Multi-Array Microphones.
4) Motorized pivot.
