Good Morning, Sunshine!

Breakfast Edition!

Page 18: Kim Hofilena

“Breakfast is the most important meal of the

day.”

This has got to be one of the most overused quotes in the history of mankind and yet I believe that it still can’t be stressed enough. With life

coming at us at the speed of light and us trying to cope

with all of its demands, where exactly does one

squeeze in the time to have breakfast? Life throws so many things at us, some-

times even simultaneously, that the mere notion of even

having breakfast rarely enters our minds.

Breakfast Blues

The modern day world has turned into a wall of schedules

and deadlines, an unending "rat race" where we, as the

rats, rush off all over the place as fast as we can, as soon as we wake up - with breakfast

of the day. There might be time for a cup of crappy

coffee to go - but to actually take time out to sit down and enjoy a scone or two? That’d be too much work, and would

could be spent doing other "more important” things.

On that note, I have good news and bad news for you.

Good news – not everyone thinks like this, there are still a

handful of people in this planet of ours that actually take time to eat breakfast.

Bad news – most people don’t.

What’s the big deal?1. Break the fast.

Yup, the word “breakfast” is actually more literal than you think. One of the most important functions of having breakfast is not just waking

up the body, but waking up your metabolism too! The word actually means "breaking fast", "fast" in this case meaning "going without food." After a long night of sleep, your body has gone without food for about

one-third of a whole day, and needs fuel in order for it to function properly and be at its best the rest of the day.

2. Eat more, weigh less! As the saying goes, “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper.” Eating a big breakfast provides one with a lot of

energy to get his or herself through the day. It doesn't even have to be huge, just proper, balanced meals. After the great breakfast, one usually

feels less hungry, and thus lunches and dinners are usually smaller meals, especially with snacks in between. Also, food that is taken in during the

at night. Late-night meals in fact can lead to weight gain.

3. Be a better you.Starting the day with a big and hearty breakfast makes one more

alert and helps one function better throughout the day. So, in order to be the best version of yourself, always start the day with

a biiig breakfast. Don’t let an empty stomach get in the way of you feeling awesome the entire day!

4. Don’t dread, have some bread!Breakfast is the key to a happy you! As breakfast provides you

with the essential energy you need to get through the day, skipping breakfast would leave you lacking energy, and most

likely have you feeling grumpy and grouchy all day. So, light up your day with a breakfast buffet!
