We are Action Challenge, international challenge event organisers.

For the last decade we have taken over 10,000 adventurers across the globe on trekking expeditions, endurance challenges, community projects and cycling events, raising in excess of £30m for over 200 UK and international charities. This year alone we have taken over 1000 trekkers to Kilimanjaro and you could be next!

There is nothing quite like getting to the top of a mountain and as one of the most iconic climbs in the world, Kilimanjaro is hard to beat. Beyond the climb, it is the journey that makes Kilimanjaro a once in a lifetime experience and we have the expertise to ensure it is one of the best journeys you have ever taken.

From the moment you sign up to a trip, through your preparation and training, your highs and lows on the mountain and your celebrations on the final night in Tanzania, our dedicated team of office staff, Mountain Leaders, Expedition Doctors, Guides and Porters will be with you every step of the way.

Join one of over 40 group departures throughout the year or let us create your own private trip.

Start your journey to the top of Africa with Action Challenge today.

The adventure begins >

We met at the airport

where there was a buzz of

excitement in anticipation

of what lay ahead. With

the group all checked in,

the adventure was about

to begin!

Finally it’s here!

Arrival at TanzaniaOur first sight of Kilimanjaro was from the air - magnificent if a little daunting. Butterflies began to build, but we relaxed when greeted with warm smiles from our guides who met us at the airport.

Kili from the air. Awesome!

We arrived at the hotel

and prepared for the

climb. Everyone’s kit was

emptied and spread over

the hotel lawn. It was a

competition to see who

could pack the lightest

bag for the mountain!

Time to

prepare

The excitement builds!

And so it beganMeeting our porters at the gate, our luggage was weighed and loaded. We were off! We climbed over vines and through ferns in the lush rainforest, spotting wildlife on our way to camp, which was ready and waiting, along with a hot drink before we all tucked into a great dinner.

Jambo! Welcome to Kilimanjaro

Life under canvasOur porters continued to look

after us, always with a smile.

It was amazing what they were

able to produce on the side of

a mountain. Mealtimes with

the group were great, huddling

together out of the cold, chatting

and playing cards. Sleeping

under canvas was also surprisingly comfy.

As we climbed higher through the moorland and high desert terrain, the altitude started to kick in and so did the cold. Everything became harder: walking, talking, breathing, eating, but we had to keep going - ‘pole-pole.’

Toughertimes

Pole-pole. Slowly slowly

‘Passport...check, camera...check, nerves...check!’

Page 6: Kilimanjaro Challenge

The summit is in sight! >

Tired and weary, we set off for the summit in the bitter cold and in the dark of night to begin our long and tough ascent by torch light. With heavy legs and gasping for breath, we climbed silently behind one another. This was our toughest challenge yet and

there was a long way to go.

By the lightof the moon

Why did I agree to this?

Dawn of a new dayWe felt like we simply could not continue, but remembered what we were

doing this for, all the money

we’d raised and our families

at home. We urged each other on, ‘pole-pole’. The sun began to rise, bringing our surroundings into light. It

was simply an amazing sight.

Slowly but surely we

approached the summit.

The gleaming white glaciers

that surrounded came into

view. We’d done it! Shaking

with cold and exhaustion

we grabbed each other to

congratulate ourselves, now

friends, on this remarkable

achievement.

On top of the world!

Through intense sun we descended back to base camp for a long awaited breakfast. We remained focused and continued further to where we could finally rest and let the last 12 hours of emotions and physical exertion drain away from our bodies.

The long way down

I was looking forward to sleep

Celebrations began early on

the mountain with African

song and dance at breakfast.

We continued with a cold

beer at the bar and a hot

shower before a fantastic

celebration dinner and party!

Time to celebrate!

Best thing I’ve ever done

We awoke this morning with a strange feeling – no trekking today. We had done it! After such an amazing experience it was hard saying goodbye to people, who over the last week have become close friends. Now it is time to kick back and relax with a few days on the beaches of Zanzibar!

Time to relax...

Something I will never forget!

We had done it. Unbelievable!
