Dear Readers,

It's Spring and things are 'new'! We here at KICKS have a great new edition of KidWise for you. As I think about this April magazine I think of the scripture, Matthew 13:52,

"Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a household who brings out of his treasure things new and old."

Scribe here is talking about those who are learning the teachings of Jesus, or the 'word of God'. The householder here is known to be, the 'master of the house'. The exciting part of this scripture is that we can see as we take hold of the teachings of Jesus and the word of God we bring forth 'new' treasures or "kinos". This word 'kinos' means fresh, unused, unworn, unheard of, something with new respects and substance!

It's that way each Spring. The ground is the old and new birth comes up with new growth from every seed! With fresh new rain. God's word and our lives are like this as we tap into the word of God and His ways. The rain of His word waters and new birth rises. Each and every day we can tap into the newness of His treasures. Heaven is filled with the new from the One who has been the same today, yesterday, and forever! We can experience the kingdom of heaven with great newness in the Lord by His Holy Spirit.

The Lord came as the 'first fruit' to bring new life to us. We can see that God the Father brought forth from His treasures a 'new' place in Christ for each of us. He is still in the business of making old things pass away and all things new (2 Cor 5:17). We can experience His fresh touch and new inspiration in all things from His word and in our lives by Him. As you tap into KidWise it is our prayer that new treasures are tapped into by His hand for your families. We pray things are refreshed for you this Spring and new things come your way!

God’s richest and newest blessing,'raising faith-filled kids through the word of God',

So many times we get caught up

in the 'particulars', we miss

the joy of what we are doing

with our families. What is that

joy? Teaching our children:

training them in the way they

should go.

Reaching the heart of our chil-

dren is what we are called to

do. Our children are the most

precious and priceless gift in

our lives. As parents, we would

never want to share the heart

of who they are with anyone who

doesn't embrace their creativ-

ity, their individuality or

their uniqueness.

KidWise 6

Getting TOO Particularby Pa!or Kim

Page 7: KidWise Magazine - April 2011

Don't get so caught up in standards that you miss the heart

of why you are doing what you are doing. Your children are

excited about life, it just comes naturally to them. As you

raise them, you are reminded each day that they were created

to draw information into their lives. This comes naturally

because it is the way God made them. As parents we simply

want to put before them every opportunity. See yourself do-

ing this each and every day rather than getting discouraged

by the feeling of 'not measuring up' to the standards you

place on yourself as a parent. Their hearts are made to

learn and grow each day.

Although you may be 'particular' about

your children, don't get so particular

that they lose the design the Lord has

created for them. Don't miss out on tak-

ing time to 'listen to the music'

they're playing along the way.

First and foremost, the beginning of all things is creating. Creativity "is" how all things begin. Children are created by God, formed and fash-ioned and born on the day they were created for. Not only were they created for a specific day of birth, they were created with specific characteristics. They have personalities that are designed to be uniquely who they are. No one else is like them. It's as simple as the im-print on their fingertips.

Just as the beginning of our children is created by the Lord, it is important to tap into His beginning.

"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord..." Rev. 1:8

Tapping into His plan and purposes is tapping into His creativity. Knowing that He is the author and designer helps us understand that we are uniquely designed and that we "can" tap into that design. Tapping into creativity is really defined by tapping into Him. We are made and designed in His creative image. We were created to be creative. That's the very nature of who He is.

"So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them." Genesis 1:27

Kids have a creative design. They have a rich reservoir of creativity within them. Watch-ing children, you can see, they create stories, they create pictures, they create play, they create an atmosphere of simple faith, love, fun and joy. Creativity is captured in the very nature of their character as they simply 'live', being creative.

Let's encourage our children in creativity. Start to focus and factor in the simple begin-ning of "the importance of inspiring simple creativity". After all our children are meant to be, "Creative Kids".

"IN THE beginning God (prepared, formed, fashioned, and) created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1AMP -KW

Rainy DayMake Your Own Book

ProjectThis potentially rainy Spring season is a great time to enjoy some in-door activity time with your family. One of our ideas? Making books!

This is a great way to expand creativity and a great learning tool. Use it as a way for your children to not only work on art skills, but build their spelling and writing abilities with new words and working on sto-ries. For younger kids, you can make 'picture books' that they can tell the story with. Use magazines, already colored pictures, photos; what-ever you would like to make YOUR own unique book. Gather your sup-

plies and enjoy a rainy, indoor afternoon doing this project!

Supply Suggestions:construction paper

drawing papercrayons, markers

& pencilsglue

scissorsstapler & staples

masking tape

Page 11: KidWise Magazine - April 2011

KidWise 11

Start by cutting your book 'cover' (construction paper) and 'pages' (whatever you are going to draw and/or write on) the size you would

like. You can make various sizes and even shapes!

Next design the inside. Be sure to consider that you need to 'bind' your book when you're finished. To do this, you can fold the pages

between the drawing/writing area and the space on the side where the book will be bound. This provides a guideline as to where you

want to draw/write and where you should leave blank for the binding. Also, you want the pages to be 'front and back' to read like a book. You can create each page individually and then glue them together, or just draw/write on the front and back of one sheet. Creating your

book may take a few rainy afternoons, or you may complete the whole thing at once! Whatever the case, take your time, plan it out and have fun! Use whatever you would like to make the pages ex-

actly as you see fit for YOUR book.

Once you are finished creating your pages, you're ready to design the cover and then bind your book. Design the cover just as you did each page, however you want! Pick the perfect title and be sure to write who it’s written by and the date on the front or inside. Gather your pages, making sure to keep them in order, and place them between

the covers. Next, staple two or three times, depending on the size of your book. Finally, use tape to cover the stapled area and the sides of your covers and pages. You can decorate the tape if you'd like, or

just leave it plain.

Now you're finished with your book! Be sure to pass it all around so everyone can see your wonderful story!!

Sometimes its fun just to make a little something to set on your desk or wall in front of a work space just to fill space with something cute. That’s what this project is all about. Gather a few of your favorite craft items and a piece of scrap cardboard and have fun!

What We Used:scrap cardboard, blue acrylic paint, paper flowers, journal tags, letter stamps & ink, markers, ribbon, glue dots, painted staples & stapler, embroidery floss

What We Did:First we painted card-board, then set it aside and, allowed it to dry.

Using marker, we wrote "faith" and "hope" on small journal tags. Then we used letter stamps and ink for "love" and doodled around it with marker.

Next, we placed the journal tags and flowers on the cardboard and secured with glue dots for journal tags and staples for flowers.

Our finishing touch was the brown ribbon which we cut, tied and secured to the top with a glue dot, Finally, we cut the amount of embroidery floss needed to create a small ‘hanger’ and stapled that to cardboard.

Now we have a cute little ‘space filler’ for wherever it may be needed.

Once upon a time there was a young girl looking for her ‘prince’. She waited for him, looked for him, dreamed of him, inspired about him, and found him. They married, filled their home with all they had, even tiny princes and little princesses.

Now she stood in front of the mirror, looking at the girl who had found her prince charming 20 years before. She could re-member when they, as high school sweethearts laughed, rid-ing together in a blue Falcon convertible, singing as loud as they could. Here they had found what they defined as ‘love’... Yet the essence of it years later, was really defined as, ‘destiny’...

How can we define relationships and prince charming after the little girl grows up? Do we as women keep looking for the sto-ries to pattern ourselves after in books? In movies? In day-dreams? In what emotions de-fine as reality?

As time passes, a Wive’s Tale can be spoken of and truthfully told in many different dimensions and facets. Time has a way of creating ‘facets’ in relationships that when examined correctly, are like diamonds that shine and glisten with the ‘light’ that passes through them.

Finding the true ‘light’ that de-fines relationships, whether they

are diamonds in the rough, or rich with color, is what the Lord desires for our relationships. We must know and remember, it is the ‘LIGHT’ that defines, not emotion or manmade definitions. So often, we as women look for the emotion of a relationship rather than the ‘light’ of it.

The word of God tells us that the ‘light’ defines. The ‘light’ not only reveals truth, it reveals who we are. Finding who we are in the ‘light’ of our relationships only comes from finding ‘His light’ within us and letting that shine through. The foundation of rela-tionship is built on the true “light”. So often, women try to define the ‘light’ of their relationships by the ‘light’ in the person they are in relationship with. This only leads to cloudiness.

In the world’s defined, “Cinder-ella Complex” films, books, fairy tales, and stories you see this. In these philosophies, the woman is defined by her prince. She finds life when she finds her prince and they live happily ever after... When in all actuality the word of God makes it clear that ‘women’ help define man. Oh you ask, “How can that be?”

First and foremost, women ‘birth’ life. It is an amazing cycle, God brought woman from man’s rib and created her to ‘birth’ her family, home, life, and the Son of God! This is the true ‘light’ of

womanhood. We are positioned in Him to birth in the lives of oth-ers. Woman even birthed into the world the ‘light’ of Jesus Christ, salvation for mankind! As women filled with Him, we are still an example of this to our families.

Have you ever wondered why when you get up in the morning grouchy, ouchy, and mouthy that your whole household follows? To find that as moms, wives, and women, we are thermostats is an amazing accomplishment. We set the tone and tempera-tures of our homes and families. What an amazing responsibility! What a frustrating responsibility if you just want to ‘be grouchy you’ for a day. Yet, as women, we must remember that every-thing we do is a seed we give birth to; that would be from atti-tude, perspective, action, and faith. That seed is in everything. The power we have in our homes and this world is amaz-ing. We just need to tap into ‘Him’ and realize we are uniquely created to find our ‘Powerful Prince’ first in Jesus, and in Him alone. Only then can we truly see a prince charming and raise princes, and proper princesses.

The ‘light’ of the word defines relationships. When we first see that our purpose as women is to bring blessing to a household, we can walk in the fullness of family. We will find our relation-

ships defined in the ‘light of His love’, we will be truly satisfied. In Proverbs 31:10-11, 28, 30, 31, says,

“Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil... Her children arise up, and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praiseth her... a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised... give her the fruit of her hands!”

Proverbs 8:13 tells us that, “the ‘fear of the Lord’ is to hate evil”. Proverbs 9:10 tells us, “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wis-dom”. Proverbs 10:27 tells us, “the fear of the Lord prolongeth days”, by it, ‘men depart from evil’, ‘tend to life’ and ‘he that has it shall abide satisfied’. (Prov 16:6, 19:23) Again, Proverbs 14:2, 27, 26, “he that walketh in his uprightness feareth the Lord... it is a fountain of life... the fear of the Lord is strong confi-dence”, and... (in wis-dom), “children shall have a place of refuge”.

The word goes on and on about the blessing for those who fear the Lord. As in Psalm 147:11, “the Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear Him...” we can find here that oddly, the fear of the Lord can be seen as walking hand in hand with ‘faith’. He-

brews 11:6 tells us that ‘faith pleases” God! Meaning, He “taketh pleasure” in it. To fear the Lord is to ‘trust Him’. How? As Hebrews 11:6 tells us that we are to believe;

“...that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him”!

To diligently seek the word, His

wisdom, the ways of the Lord, and the things of Him as women, we will then find ‘all the things’, as well as, our hearts desires, are added to us. What a prom-ise! ‘ALL’ things are added to us, even our heart’s desires... That defines and means even our hearts as women for our hus-bands, our children, and our families.

Matthew 6:33, Psalm 37:4,

“Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you... Delight thyself also in the Lord: and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”

Finding that our real dreams come true in Christ and Him

alone, sets us in a po-sition to bless our households. It sets us in the position to be the wives the Lord has called us to be. This is godly destiny fulfilled, satisfying our relation-ships.

So often we are look-ing for the wrong things in the right places. Now if we can focus on the ‘light’ of Him in those right places we will finally see the ‘right things’. The Lord will turn the wrong and make it all right! It is His promise to do so, if we but trust in Him and love as He loves. We will find ‘life, purpose, destiny, and real love.’ He is forever and true to us, the ‘Light of the world’, and we can bring the

‘Wive’s Tale’ that He is Lord of our hearts, our emotions, our families, our husbands, and our marriages. Now, that’s a real ‘fairy tale’, without the magic... This tale holds God’s power and perfection! Simply tap into the real thing by faith.

Discovering relationships in our lives is an intri-cate part of the intimacy of life. Dr. Lester Sum-rall stated, "If you find 2 or 3 close friends you can trust you are a prosperous man." Where do they come from and how do you find them? The word of God tells us that, "A friend sticks closer than a brother." "A man of many com-panions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." Proverbs 18:24 NIV

Teaching our children about relationships also gives us the challenge to look at our own rela-tionships in our own lives. What we are living before our children is one of the greatest teach-ings they embrace. Who are our friends?

1. The Lord would have us to be the 'best friend' to our spouse. 2. The Lord would have us to be the 'best friend' to our children. 3. The Lord will choose and show us the 'best friends' in our lives to embrace and trust.

The Amplified version also gives us another perspective on this verse; "The man of many friends [a friend of all the world] will prove himself a bad friend, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." (Amplified Bible)

So often society terms that popularity is the best. Being popular has it's downfalls and if through popularity, a person embraces 'all the world', they will find hurt and ruin in relation-ship. For example, if you embrace 'all the world' for the sake of having a lot of friends, you don't have an understanding or revelation of true 'covenant' relationship. David found one of

those friends in his life in Jonathan. Jona-than gave everything he had to establish a covenant with David and he stood with him through it all. He believed the best in David at ALL times. A friend will build you up rather than tear you down.

"And Saul's son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God." 1 Samuel 23:6 NIV

Do you remember those high school years when Sally told Shirley what you en-trusted to Sally, and Shirley decided to tell Sylvia because she didn't want Sylvia to be tainted by you because of what Sally told her and she felt responsible for Sylvia? Boy, wasn't that all about competi-tive jealousy?

Finding true friends doesn't come easy. Finding those people who believe in you in spite of you can leave a trail of hurt behind. The Lord will heal and move you forward beyond it. He will find your friends for you. Embrace His lead and trust Him.

Teaching your children and reminding yourself the value of friendship can be the beginning. Going back to Proverbs 18:24, shows us to be a friend first. But, don't entrust your heart to the world and to 'one' until they are proven by love, com-mitment, and covenant. A friend will al-ways "stick closer to you than a brother". You'll find the meaning of 'love' in the

true value of a friend and that "perfect love will cast out all fear."

Abraham was considered a friend of God because he believed Him. This is an ex-ample of covenant friendship. They be-lieve in you and aren't looking for the worst in you in order to point out your problems or spread the news to others. Those who truly believe in you will be proven. Those who believe in your chil-dren will be shown. Those who believe in your family will embrace you with a love that propels you forward, shares your dreams, and trusts. Isn't that what friends are for?

Wrong Driver Installedby Pastor Rick

Have you ever wanted to print something on your computer and gotten the error message, "Wrong driver installed"? You end up having to install the correct driver to get it to work right. You know, sometimes our lives can feel like the wrong driver is in-stalled. It's seems like no matter what you do, it's not right or it doesn't come out the way you wanted.

So many times it is a driver problem. I'm sure you have heard the saying "God is my co-pilot". You see it on license plate frames and bumper stickers. I got to thinking one day, perhaps that is the problem so many people face; they have the wrong driver installed. We need to switch seats. If we let God be our pilot then things will improve considerably in our lives. We should stop trying to be in control instead, turn total control over to God. He is much more able to pilot our lives than we are.

The Word of God is the road map for our life and God has the perfect route for us to travel. When we use our faith and seek His wisdom concerning our life, He will lead us around all the pot holes and detours that the enemy would like to frustrate and

delay us with. So let’s get the right driver installed and get on with the plan God has for us.

Page 23: KidWise Magazine - April 2011

KidWise 23

Prayer… When we pray its easy to add laws and regulations to yourself. Talking to God is not about condemning your-self. Prayer is about speaking God’s will over and into your life. You pray with assignment and a heart that knows God’s love for you. Why do we pray for others? Because we KNOW God loves them. If you pray for others you know God loves you too or else you wouldn't want to share with them. Do not make walking

in love a law for you. That means if you try to walk in love by certain rules and regulations, it won't work. Receive God’s love and that’s automatically what you will do. When you receive God's love, you will walk in love.

Prayer is part of God's will for your life. Why will you do God’s will? Why will your life be perfect and be established in God? Why can you speak these things into existence when you pray? Because He loves you. Because of His love, you have faith and knowing... Then you can rest, knowing God has everything under control. Because He is love... And because we are His...

And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. - Romans 5:5
