Rachel’s story . . .“I heard about KIDS from a lady that got served by my mum in the card shop she works in just outside the city centre. This lady had written the number down for us to get some help because we just didn’t know where to go. I rang and went from there.

My son Kyan goes every Thursday morning to the KIDS Play and Development Sessions at Parks Children’s Centre with Louise and Adele. They have been very understanding and the first couple of times I sat and cried as it was difficult because my boy was getting upset with new surroundings and also it is upsetting at first knowing your child needs all this extra help and all the worry of will he ever wave point or talk etc. They have been very supportive. It’s lovely to chat to the other parents and it makes me know I’m not the only one out there going through this and it’s nice to see all their children improving too!

The sessions have been helping Kyan with PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) cards to communicate and to learn structure. Many people with autism communicate with picture cards as they may not yet have the ability to talk or use sign language. We’ve all stuck to it and he now waves and points and talks! Although it’s not clear and a lot of what Kyan says is echoing us it’s still a massive step and achievement and he’s so happy now he can tell me what he needs via PECS.

Cherish from KIDS has been to look around schools with me too and is lovely. They have all been super and answered every question I’ve had and kept reassuring me things get easier.

My sister in law fosters 2 autistic children and KIDS have been great with them too.“

Would you consider organising an event? Many of the opportunities we provide, which are delivered free to families, rely purely on voluntary income and so only remain possible with the support of the local community.

Fundraising events throughout the year go a long way to help towards the £130k we need to raise to cover these services.

Hull Bondholders SchemeKIDS have recently joined the Hull Bondholders Scheme and we are very much looking for the support of the local business community to add to our network of corporate supporters

Your support really will make a differenceFor every £1 we spend, 92 pence goes directly to the families we are supportingThere are many ways that people can get involved and support us – from coming to an event, having one of our collection tubs on your premises, volunteering or making a donation.

How you can make a difference If you would like to host an event or have an idea for something a little different we are always looking for new ideas!

Please drop us a line! We would love to hear from you.

ChangeEach year, thousands of families and individuals travel abroad on holiday or business. We all arrive home with

loose foreign currency in our pockets. The banks or exchange bureau’s will not accept it below a certain

amount. So where does it go?

In a kitchen drawer or around the house, left to collect dust?

Now you can donate it to KIDS We will convert any currency, and use it to help those

children and families that need our help
