I hope everyone is enjoying the spring weather here in Arizona. The riding conditions have been amazing, in be-tween the wind storms, and we have had a couple of great outings this month to Prescott and Payson picking up some Touring Arizona destinations.
There is still time to get your registra-tions submitted for the GWRRA Region-al Convention/Rally in St. George, Utah over the Memorial Day weekend. This promises to be a fun and educational weekend with many events planned. We are also planning rides through Zion and Bryce Canyon Nation-al Parks before and after the festivities in St. George.
Touring Arizona is a great guide for vis-iting many unique locations throughout our beautiful State. On Thursday, April 17, I am planning a ride that will allow you to pick up four new locations. It will be a long day with 7 hours of riding time covering 385 miles of mostly two lane roads so we will leave town ear-ly. Hope to see you on the "Salt River Ride".
Cliff Simpson, Chapter Educator, is tak-ing a poll to see who may be interested in a Trike Riders Course (TRC) and an Advanced Rider Course (ARC) to be held in October at theArizona District Convention/Rally. Please send Cliff an email by April 15 if you plan on attend-ing.
In May plan on joining hosts Chuck and Leslie Donaldson as they guide a tour to Canyon de Chelly and Monument Valley leaving May 2. Sign up now as reservations for the guided tour into
these areas must be made in advance of the trip.
Also in May is the Devil's Highway Ride that Chapter S is co-sponsoring this year with AZ Ride Motorcycle Rentals. The 8th annual ride will be held on Saturday, May 31 and will start and end in Spring-erville. There is no charge to join in on the fun and included is a poker run with prizes for all registered riders. Sign up now at AZ Ride's website, www.azride.com.

HOW GOOD ARE YOU, REALLY? It's 10:30 on Friday morning and Char and I are leaving home on our orange trike, headed to D & D Discount Motorsports in Tempe. We will rendezvous with our new friends from Alaska, Joe and Maryann Lisenby. From Tempe we will ride to Tucson and participate in the Trike Riders Course (TRC) on Satur-day. As we pull onto the frontage road and the ramp onto I-17, I feel that there is something wrong. No, it's not the trike; it's ME! I feel extremely uncomfortable. Hmm, I have all the gear: helmet, jacket, gloves, long pants, over-the-ankle riding boots. I haven't taken any me3ds this morning. Wait, could it be that I haven't been on the bike for a whole month? It could be, and I'm sure it was! Bob Johnson is a great promoter of our Practice Field Days (PFD), provided free-of-charge most months by Chapters D, R and S. He always states that “Riding Skills Are Perishable Skills.” And if I didn't believe it before, I certainly do now. When I was riding in Ohio, bad road conditions kept me off the Wing most days from mid-November through the end of March. But when I climbed back into the saddle again, I felt pretty good about my riding skills. In retrospect, perhaps I was a bit optimistic. Anyhow, fast-forward ten years. Now I'm almost 70 years old. I know my reflexes aren't as good as when I was 30. My eyesight isn't quite as good. Nor is my hearing. And most days I can't remember what day it is. Other than that, I'm in excellent condition! NOT! Bob is right. If you don't use it, you lose it! And as we age, we lose it more rapidly. When I was in high school, I threw around 80 pound bales of hay with ease (or at least I think I did). Today, a 50 pound bag of water softener salt can be a challenge. That's why I go to the weight room at least three days a week – to try to maintain some muscle tone. If I don't, I can soon notice it. So when I go without riding the Goldwing for several days, I feel uncomfortable. Back to our ride. As I merged onto the freeway, I checked my mirrors for approaching traffic. Oops, I forgot the head turn before moving into the travel lane. Accelerate to move along with the traffic. Darn, don't follow so close behind that semi. Wow, look out for that merging car! Better get over one lane. Whoa, that was a close one! Why did that jerk stop so quickly in the middle lane? I almost didn't get stopped. Suffice it to say that Char and I made it safely to Tempe and Tucson. By the time we completed the TRC on Saturday, I was again feeling very confident in my riding skills. Sunday morning I went to Turf Paradise and practiced the same skills that we worked on in the TRC. So after 350 mile of riding in two days, and 5+ hours of skills practice, I knew that I was very proficient. THEN! But I also knew that I NEED TO CONTINUE PRACTICING THOSE RIDING SKILLS. Do you? Remember, Ride with Pride and Confidence! Cliff & Char Simpson, GWRRA/AZ-S Educators

MUST SELL I have two almost new custom seats for sale. A HARTCO (Comfort Tec) Seat complete with removable driver backrest and passenger backrest cover. Appearance is excellent. Small rub mark from seat bolt on the underside of the seat. This seat was nearly $1400 new and was only minimally used. This is a great seat for a 30" or above inseam rider or any Trike owner for sure. Original owner could not use it shortly after purchase due to hip issues. (story is detailed in a recent For Sale thread on the GL1800 website). I purchased it 2 weeks ago from the second owner who felt it was too tall and moved to a low rider seat. I have never sat on it as my CSC Trike has an aux fuel tank and this seat will not fit as the pan is too deep for clearance. I will sell it for $500, obo including shipping within CONUS. Also FOR SALE is a 2005 Diamond Brand seat also in great shape. I am selling this one for the same reason as it doesn't fit over the aux fuel tank. This seat is a great value and far superior to the stock seat. It also has a removable driver back rest I will sell this seat for $350, obo including shipping within CONUS. Both seats are black vinyl, firmer yet more much comfortable than the stock seat. Please contact me at [email protected] or 480-276-3178.

A special thank you to TURF PARADISE, located at 1501 W. Bell Rd in Phoenix, for allowing us to hold our Practice Field Day (“PFD”) in their parking lot each month. PFD gives motor-cycle riders of all skill levels an opportunity to practice and im-prove their slow-riding, maneuvering skills in a no-pressure, safe environment.
Practice Field Days give all riders, regardless of riding abilities, a chance to practice and increase their riding skills. These multi-chapter field days give riders an opportunity to ride a variety of ma-neuvers at their own skill level, to ask questions and to have fun rid-ing. Have trouble getting your Wing on it’s center stand? Not sure how to pick it up? This is the place to learn!
All riders, all levels are welcome. In keeping with the GWRRA tradition of SAFETY, all riders must wear hel-mets, long sleeves, long pants, over the ankle boots and full-finger gloves.
See you there!
