he Deputy Minister of labour Inkosi Phathekile Holomisa Tengaged in a labour initiative
program last Saturday in Ermelo. Imbizo is undertaken nationwide to interact with the staff and management across the country under their portfolio, It aims at gathering information to assist identify and bridge any gaps in the policy and legislation covering domestic workers.
The intention of the engagement is also to create awareness among domestic workers and ensure high level of compliance on the sector to labour law.
During the event domestic workers were afforded an opportunity to interact with the Deputy minister on several challenges and suggestions that may be used to eradicate the possibility of vulnerability within the sector and to check if they are registered for the Unemployment insurance fund (UIF). Deputy Minister Holomisa said the Government alone cannot ensure optimal compliance with the UIF Act but they also need employees contribution to ensure that all employers whose employees qualify for the UIF benefit are registered.
Historically the domestic workers sector is characterized by appalling working conditions and lack of mechanism to upward adjustment of wages however the
ground-breaking treaties that were amended played a critical role in creating conducive working condition and the extension of social services such as the Unemployment insurance funds and the compensation of occupational injury and disease of employment act.
The deputy minister said workers should not be unfairly discriminated against parties need to exercise their obligations and claim their right as workers, for the law to tackle its course .Failure to comply with the Employment equity act parties may be countered with a hearing process to settle an agreement at the CCMA in a form of a dispute to investigate a party's grievance.

SANCO MP wants to add its voice in strongly condemning the recent spate of xenophobic violence that has engulfed certain parts of the country. SANCO's view is that these attacks to fellow African brothers expose the high level of moral erosion and intense absence of consciousness in communities.
As much as we appreciate the frustrations yield by the by the socioeconomic challenges, that doesn't justify the infliction this horrific and deadly pain to our brothers and sister. Xenophobia represents backwardness, retrogression, barbarism and inhumanity.
How do these barbarists fulfill their quest when driving defenseless babies and their mothers to the streets and cold? Are we not supposed to embrace each other, share the shelter and wealth as mandated by the freedom charter? All these cannot happen in the glorious name of the Rainbow Nation. The implications of these has started showing at the international level. It shall take time to reverse the adverse name
