1. Name: KFW PROJECT FARMING TOOLS DISTRIBUTION TO EMAE ISLAND 2. Itinerary : The team of Agriculture Department staffs travel to Emae on 23 th and 25 th July 2017 to the official handing over of farming tools and return on 28 th July 2017. 3. Purpose The purpose of this trip was to do the official handing over of farmings and distribute them like spades, chicken wires, pig fence wires, potting trays, potting mix, water tanks, poly bags, chain saw, knifes, and others. 4. People met/ visits 12 Chiefs from 12 different villages on Emae Chairman for Emae Island Area Council Chairman of Emae Farmers Association Farmers 5. Major events The major events from this trip were the official handing over of the farming tools and the distribution of tools to households and villages. Firstly, the official handing over of farmings had been taking place on the 26 th July 2017 at Finonge Market where Shefa Provincial Agriculture Officer “Willie Iau had officially handed over farming tools to Chairman of Emae Area Council and Chairman of Emae Farmers Association with the 12 Chiefs of the 12 villages on this island which are Resu Village, Maketea, Tongoamea, Finonge, Tabakoro, Sasake, Marae, Sangnava, Siwo, Vaitini, and completed at Sula area. Secondly, distribution of farming tools especially spades to households was also conducted in those villages mentioned above that have more than 200 households. Every households in Emae had received spades including Vaima area which wasn’t mentioned in the distribution list. Moremore, two water tanks had also been dsirtibuted to Sasake Village. See photos in Appendix. 6. Follow- up actions required The team of SPC and staffs under Agriculture, Forestry, and Livestock Department will still follow up on this task done during the distribution of crops planting materials and tree seedlings and animals. The leftover farming tools for Emae 215 digging forks, 2 5o meters pig fence wire, and 2 meters wire for soil serving which will be distributed the same time with planting materials. 7. Other Comments It is very urgent for the Department of Agriculture to deploy AAO to be based on this Island to assist them in their farming practices, and also to oversee the sustainability of activities implemented by certain projects when they become to an end. .People on Emae are waiting for us to distribute planting materials requested. Chiefs from Emae have conveyed a word of thanks to SPC and Agriculture Department through MALFFB for supplying the farming their people to help them to build their livelihood.
