From beautiful landscapes to monumental architecture to iconic

sculpture, Millennium Park is truly a 21st century creation.

Chicago’s civic gem is a 24.5-acre oasis in the heart of

downtown. Don’t miss the Park’s exciting exhibition,

Interconnected: The Sculptures of Yvonne Domenge, which

is comprised of three large spheres that defy gravity and

space, conveying a rhythmic beauty and the sense of a

larger universal order.

BP Bridge: Take the long way across Columbus Drive to Daley Bicentennial Plaza via Frank

Gehry’s whimsically serpentine steel creation.

Chase Promenade: A beautiful tree lined walkway that spans the length of the Park.

Cloud Gate: The brilliant stainless steel curves of what has affectionately become known as “the

Bean” mirrors both the skyline above and curious onlookers below.

Crown Fountain: These towering waterfall bookends bear digital images of actual Chicagoans

year-round.

Jay Pritzker Pavilion: Architect Frank Gehry’s bold outdoor band shell, with its soaring steel rib-

bons and state-of-the-art canopied sound system over the lawn, is a breathtaking design.

Lurie Gardens: A 2.5–acre paradise for green-loving urbanites, this collection of flora brings to

life Chicago’s motto “Urbs in Horto” (City in a Garden).

Wrigley Square and Millennium Monument: The Square is anchored by the Millennium

Monument, a nearly full-sized replica of the original peristyle that stood in the same location

between 1917 and 1953.

Millennium Park is accesible via the CTA #3, #4, #151 and #157 buses.26 keymagazinechicago.com

Interconnected: The Sculptures of Yvonne Domenge: Striving to represent underlying

patterns in what may outwardly seem chaotic, Yvonne Domenge’s sculpture strikes a unity in

what we perceive as opposites and finds harmony in apparent dissonances. Often referencing

the natural world, Domenge’s work reveals a fascination with form and geometry. On display

through Oct 1, 2012.

Self-Guided Audio Tour: Travel at your own pace and listen as the masterminds behind the

world’s most spectacular new public space – architect Frank Gehry and artists Anish Kapoor

and Jaume Plensa – recount how and why Millennium Park was built and the secrets that lie

beneath the park floor.

Shopping

Please call to confirm hours and credit cards accepted.

Chicago may be known for a lot of things, but shopping is certainly one of the main attractions.

Just steps from the Magnificent Mile inside the award-winning NBC Tower, CHICAGO “5”

SOUVENIRS (454 N. Columbus, 312/467-9537) is a great place to stock up on Chicago souvenirs

like this Hobo Bag, which comes in multiple colors, as well as NBC fan gear. Springtime is all about

getting fit and staying active so take on the surf and waves with these Wavefarer Board Shorts

from PATAGONIA (48 E. Walton, 312/640-5934; 1800 N. Clybourn, 312/951-0518), which offer

maximum comfort. And with the Chicago Blues Fest right around the corner (June 8-10), now is

the perfect time to brush up on blues classics like this early Junior Wells’ collaboration with Buddy

Guy, Hoodoo Man Blues, available at JAZZ RECORD MART (27 E. Illinois; 312/222-1467).

Don’t go homeempty-handed.

Editor’s Choice

With the National Restaurant Show in town, it’s perfectly understandable that many visitors

will be scouring the neighborhoods and haunting hostess stands this week in search of an in-

delible experience at some of the hottest new spots. But Chicago was a happening restaurant

scene long before the latest trendy places started garnering so much notice. So perhaps instead

of trying to fight the crowds at the latest hip additions, maybe this is a good time to revisit the

old-school places that have served as that scene’s foundation for decades or more.

Still undecided about what to do in Chicago? Here are some of our favorites:

Staying Power

The Berghoff (1898) 17 W. Adams; 312/427-3170.The undisputed king of the city’s historic dining firmament.

Italian Village (1927) 71 W. Monroe; 312/332-7005.Three distinct Italian experiences under one historicroof (pictured above).

Artist’s Café (1961) 412 S. Michigan; 312/939-7855.Historic and artsy gathering place for musicians, painters, businessmen and passersby to linger over athree-egg omelet or a spinach pie.

Su Casa (1963) 49 E. Ontario; 312/943-4041. Opt forsome straightforward Mexican fare from the samelongtime proprietors of famous pizza palaces – Pizzeria Uno and Due.

Manny’s Cafeteria and Delicatessen (1964) 1141 S.Jefferson; 312/939-2855. The Everyman great granddaddy of Chicago lunch counters.

Chicago Brauhaus (1965) 4732 N. Lincoln; 773/784-4444. The unofficial centerpiece of the LincolnSquare neighborhood for more than four decades.
