The Key Fob / Light is a familiar project in many schools in year 8 and is an

ideal starting project. It is best to give the pupils an early experience using

resistant materials i.e., acrylic and rigid polystyrene in this example rather

than use the kit from Rapid Electronics which uses foam.

The design element is restrictive given the limitations of overall size. It is most

important to carefully guide pupils through their first experience of the design

process. Success for the pupil is vital to stimulate motivation and build upon

self esteem.

Constraints such as shape/s and size of the material to work from will be an

important considerations along with the manufacturing process involved.
