Women and Science & Technology

• The focus of the

workshop is “women in

Science & Technology”

• The intention is to help

young women & men of

our State, to be more

successful in their life

and in their R & D efforts

• It is in this context, during

initial few minutes of my

presentation, let me cite

few

– Very successful women of

the world, who reached the

highest peak of R&D (I

mean, those women, who

got the Nobel Prizes)

3 Aug 2012 Dr. P. Basak 2

Women Nobel Laureates

• As on 2011 AD, 826 individuals and 20 organizations

have been awarded Nobel Prize,

• Among the 826 Nobel laureates, 43 have been women;

– the first woman to win a Nobel Prize was

Marie Curie, who won the Nobel Prize

in Physics in 1903

– She was also the first person

(male or female) to win two Nobel Prizes,

the second Nobel Prize was in Chemistry,

awarded in 1911

Albert Einstein’s Theory of Success

for the young scientists like you

He suggested 3 things for success in R & D

and they are

1. Imagination or Dream and serious work to

realize the dream

2. Mental state of happiness

3. Keeping Silence while work

Imagination is more important than knowledge.

Albert Einstein (1879-1955) - his theories of relativity has revolutionized the physics

The best creative work is never done when one is unhappy.

3 Cornerstones (X,Y,Z) for success and

Realization of Dreams

Work, Happiness and

Keeping Silence

• His famous formulae for Success

• A (Success) = X + Y + Z

1. X is work to realize the dream

2. Y is play/sing for the happiness

3. Z is keeping silence while work

What Einstein meant by work and how do we equip

ourselves for those works?
