KEY CLUB Division 14 newsletter

This year was my first year attending ICON

and it was one of the best experiences I

ever had! Not only did I get to meet

people from all over the world, but these

people became real close friends and Key

Club just brought us even closer. I also

learned how the International Structure

worked and was given the opportunity to

vote for our International Board at the

House of Delegates. Having the chance to

attend ICON was a blessing and I really

hope that I will be able to bring as many

key clubbers from Division 14 to the

International Convention in Phoenix, AZ. I

encourage everyone to attend ICON

because it will be a Key Club experience

no one will ever forget!

The greatest part of ICON was saying hello to new friends and the hardest part was saying goodbye. There are

moments that I will never forget and the people are unforgettable.

Check out these awesome projects! What is our Governor’s

Project for 2010-2011 year?

Option 1: Fundraising for Diabetes

Why fundraise for Diabetes?

I would like our district to raise money for the

American Association of Diabetes. Two people that I

am close to have this disease which makes this even

more of a reason for us to want to help this cause. I

would like for us to be able to present the American

Association of Diabetes with a large check at our

district Convention.

What is a good fundraising idea for Diabetes?

Your school can host a sugar free bake sale and sell

baked goods that are sugar free but still tasty. (More

coming soon in the Governor’s Project booklet)

Option 2: Support Healthy Lifestyles

Why should I support healthy lifestyles?

I would like for us as a district to show people how

important living a healthy lifestyle truly is to

prevent long term and short term diseases. I also

believe that it is important for us to each out and

teach younger students about living a healthy life. I

will post a calendar on our district website with

health risks that you can “aware” people about and how to live a healthy lifestyle.

What are some project ideas?

Host a Field Day: this will help get students active!

Host an Awareness Walk: this will help increase awareness for a disease!

United Way is our super service

project for this year’s fall rally.

United Way works to identify

areas of unmet needs in our

community and brings people

together in order to provide

help to those in needs. 90.9% of

money raised goes towards

funding to health and human

service agencies and the other

9.1% goes towards fundraising

and nonprofit assistance. They

help fund for families and

children in need of medical care

and education.

Volunteer for these programs!

K.A.M.P Kiwanis is a summer camp

experience provided to children with

disabilities caused by Childhood

Rheumatoid Arthritis or Autism. These

children have the same dreams of a

great summer as other kids. K.A.M.P.

Kiwanis fulfills those dreams. [Erica

(Gulfport High), Dylan]

The Dream Program serves people with

disabilities in Jackson County Mississippi

and surrounding areas. We host special

events where the disabled have an

opportunity to participate in games and

sports and have fun! We make their

dreams reality. [Jeffrey R. (GHS)]

PPCCMMss At our last PCM we discussed

on voting for a theme to

represent at DCON. The two

to choose from are Pokemon

or Beach theme. We held a

shoebox contest and Moss

Point High won for the most

unique shoebox. We also

talked about possibly having

our next DCON in Biloxi. Lastly,

we decided that each school

will decide on the location for

our PCM each month.

Next PCM is on August 7, 2010

10:30 AM @ Beef’O Bradys in Gulfport, MS and we are having a spirit chant contest!

Checking your emails

And keeping in contact.

It is important for everyone to keep

checking their emails for updates

and news going on in our Division. If

you haven’t been receiving emails,

please inform me, but also make

sure to check your junk and spam

mail. I will be keeping in contact

through emails, calls, and text

messages. So please stay in

contact and read those emails!

Staying in touch is important in

good communication. Key Leader is a program for

today’s young leaders. This life-

changing event focuses on

service leadership as the first,

most meaningful leadership

development experience.

Attend this year’s Key Leader

at Camp Wesley Pines in

Jackson, MS on October 15-17

and Camp Istrouma in Baton

Rouge, LA on November 5-7.

Back to School Tips • Make sure to have all of your school

supplies, which include pencil(s), pens, paper, and your textbooks!

• Arrive to class at least 5 minutes early; so you will never be late for class.

• Have plenty of sleep the night before at least 8 hours or else you’ll end up sleeping in class. Trust me!

• Eat a good breakfast before going to school or else you’ll be more

concentrated on food than your school work. If you’re sneaky, eat a few snacks during class or during break.

• School is a place for education, not socialization. So pay attention to your

studies and not your buddies.
