Foreword

Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs), innovation, investment and entrepreneurs

play pivotal roles in Kenyan economy, creating employment opportunities and

improving people’s livelihood. As growth accelerates in the region, it generates with

it new opportunities and challenges. When it comes to future global investment

strategies, Kenya is high on the agenda for investors and entrepreneurs. The region

has become a more attractive investment destination over the last decade and is

expected to sustain its long term potential as the gateway to East Africa.

However, it is generally recognised that SMEs and entrepreneurs face unique

challenges, which affect their potential, hence diminish their ability to contribute

effectively to the regional’s sustainable development and increase investors R.O.I.

Enterprises in Kenya face overwhelming challenges including: lack of managerial

skills, inadequate capital and access to finance, unsupportive business policies and

regulatory environment, increase market competition, fast technological

advancement, inadequate infrastructure, lack of market information, insights and

industry standards.

This two days high level thought provoking and knowledge enriching high level

conference aim to engage regional industry players, government representatives,

entrepreneurs and businesses leaders to debate and establish solutions that will seek

to foster sustainable economic growth prosperity, facilitate financial deepening,

increased SME competitiveness and create employment opportunities in Kenya. The
