We will never forget the care, concern and advice given to us by our school leaders, Ms Chin, Mrs Manuel, Mrs Yap, and our teachers. We are extremely privileged to be part of this Kellock family and will never forget Kellock. On behalf of the graduating cohort, I would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest thanks to everyone at Kellock; teaching and non-teaching staff. I would like to express our thanks through a simple poem penned by me. Today I sit by the window bay, With a cup of coffee this lovely day. Memories of school just flashed by, The thought of farewell makes me cry. It will be hard to say goodbye, To the six golden years that will soon pass by. An innocent and naïve child I was, Unsure of what the future me would be. With all your patience and tender loving care, I blossomed into a responsible girl you encouraged to dare. Ready to face the world outside, To face the challenges and walk with stride. Now, there is this deep sense of pride in me, The pride to be part of this lovely family. Where teachers are like precious gems, And students are their bright radiance. Like a treasure kept safe and secure, Kellock will remain in my heart for sure. Today with my trembling voice, And with pain in my heart and tears in my eyes, I would like to say thanks to all, For all the support when I fall. 1. Updates / Announcements
1.1 Staff Movement
We welcome on board Mdm Yuan Yingna to the Chinese Language Department, and look forward to
her contributions.
1.2 Safety, Security & Traffic Matters
Haze Management
Singapore has been experiencing hazy conditions and the 24-hr PSI has been registering low to
mid-end of the Unhealthy range in the period of September. As a school, we have stepped up our
haze management measures, ensuring that air-purifiers are ready and that staff and students are
familiar with the haze guidelines should we need to move to designated enclosed spaces, where
necessary. We have also been reminding students with pre-existing conditions to have their
medication with them at all times.
School Infrastructure Improvement
Our students and stakeholders have given feedback that at times, it is difficult to distinguish the
female toilets from the male toilets and vice-versa due to the similar coloured doors. Hence, the
toilet doors have been painted in different colours – pink for female, blue for male and grey for the
handicap toilets – for easy recognition.
Traffic Updates
We are also happy to announce that LTA has commenced works to widen the turning radius from
Kampung Bahru Road to Bukit Teresa, towards the Church. This improvement project should be
completed by end September 2015. On this note, we would like to remind parents to drive slowly
and keep to a single lane on the narrow Bukit Teresa Road when their children are alighting from
the cars. As Bukit Teresa Road leads to a cul-de-sac with residents staying in the area, parents are
strongly encouraged to use Bukit Purmei Road for drop-offs and pick-ups.
1.3 General School Matters
Collection of Homework due to Child’s Absence
This is a gentle reminder for parents who would like to collect homework for their children who
have been given two or more days of medical leave to contact the respective form teachers in
advance for such a request. Once the teachers have been contacted, the homework will be placed at
the General Office and can only be collected after 3 p.m.
3
Picking Up of Books from classrooms after School Hours and on Saturdays
As part of the school’s efforts to instil in our students the value of Responsibility and as part of the
school’s safety guidelines, students will only be allowed to return to their classrooms to collect
books or files left behind any time from school dismissal to 4.30 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays.
Requests to go up to classrooms after 4.30 p.m. and on Saturdays by students and parents will not
be allowed.

Teachers play a critical role in the education of our children as they assume multiple roles as guide,
challenger, inquirer, role model, planner and motivator in their mission to care for and develop our
students holistically.

(25 May 2015 - 26 May 2015) Kellock organised a 2D1N JB-Malacca Educational
Immersion Programme for the Primary 5 students
who take Tamil as their mother tongue language.
This trip provided opportunities for our students to
understand the Indian culture and traditions in a
setting beyond Singapore. It also created an out-of
classroom experience for the learning and practice of
the Tamil Language in an authentic context.
The language cum cultural learning journey included a
half-day school attachment to one of the local Tamil
schools in Malacca, SMKGB-Malacca School, where
students actively participated in enrichment activities
organised by the school.
4.2 Education Exchange Programme to China
(24 May 2015 – 29 May 2015)
A 6-day China Educational Exchange Programme to
Xiamen, Chaozhou and Yongding was organised in
May 2015 for our Primary 5 students. The programme
provided opportunities for students to be immersed
in the rich culture and history of China, and to
appreciate how different cultures have influenced the
language. 30 Primary 5 students were selected from a
selection interview conducted by the MTL HOD and
teachers-in-charge of the programme. During the trip,
various learning tasks were assigned to the students
to enhance their learning. This programme also
provided students with opportunities to apply the
skills they have learnt from the WeB programme and
the WeCare workshop. With the help of the teachers-
in-charge, five short broadcasting videos were
produced and shown to the whole school during pre-
assembly.

4.3 Cantus Angelicus: Children’s Choir Festival
During the first week of the June holidays, the school choir journeyed to Malacca, Malaysia, to take
part in Cantus Angelicus 2015. Cantus Angelicus, which means ‘Voices of Angels’, is Asia’s first ever
choral festival for choristers aged 12 and below. During this time, the choir was privileged to attend
three master classes conducted by international clinicians, Robyn Lana and Susanna Saw. The
takeaways from the masterclasses were almost immediate and in comparison to our performance
during the Festival Opening Concert, our improvement could be clearly seen when we presented
our repertoire during the Festival Closing Concert.
Besides the precious choral takeaways, the students established friendship with the other
participants of the festival while preparing for the combined-choirs performance, at the pyjamas-
themed closing concert, as well as the movie night held on our last night in Malacca. Of course, other
intangible takeaways such as independence, tolerance, respect, responsibility and resilience were
some of many learned experiences that made the trip a meaningful and fulfilling one.

5. Kellock Makes a Difference
5.1 Children for Children (CfC)
In collaboration with our partners, The Business Times, The RICE Company Limited and Resorts
World Sentosa, CHIJ Kellock will be staging our 8th edition of Children for Children at Resorts
World Sentosa. Children for Children is a meaningful platform for the students of CHIJ Kellock to
pay it forward and make a difference as they play host to approximately 3000 underprivileged
children in Singapore, to celebrate a very special and memorable Children’s Day on Thursday, 8
October 2015.
In conjunction with SG50, the theme for this year’s Children for Children is Be The Difference, It
Begins With You and Me. Through a drama production put together by the students of CHIJ
Kellock, participants at this year’s event will set out on an exciting journey as they travel back in
time to witness Singapore’s 50 years of history and spread the message that everyone can do
their part to make a difference for Singapore.
In line with Children for Children and MOE’s curriculum for Character and Citizenship Education
(CCE), our Primary 4 students will be generating awareness of the underprivileged in society for
their Values in Action (VIA) project. This VIA platform allows students to undergo learning
experiences that support their development as socially responsible citizens who contribute
meaningfully to the community. The Primary 4 VIA project will inculcate empathy in our
students, and encourage a call to action on how they can play a part to help others in our
community, especially for the underprivileged children.
5.2 Performing Arts Community Involvement Choir
50 Songs for Singapore Choral Festival
How does a choir celebrate
the 50th birthday of its
nation? Not unexpectedly,
it would be through its
joyous singing!
Our students were most
privileged to lend their
voices to the inaugural
Singapore Choral Festival -
50 Songs for Singapore.
Held over the Golden
Jubilee weekend, the
school choir sang as part of a combined primary school choir, singing three songs by Singaporean
composers. As one of the younger performing groups in the concert, our students contributed to the
celebratory atmosphere with their youthful exuberance. Our students also caught a glimpse of the
local choral scene as well as saw many of our local talents in action. The event is one that the choir
would likely remember for a long time in years to come.
15
Catholic SG50 celebration – JOY
The school and the choir were thrilled to be invited to participate in the Catholic SG50 JOY
celebration event which took place on 4 July 2015. Our principal, Ms Chin, reminded us that when
the church calls, we respond in faith and love. Therefore, as part of the Catholic school community,
we were delighted to be given this opportunity to share the good news of God’s love with those
around us.
The hymn which the choir presented was, You Are
Mine. The members in the school choir come from
different faith background, so our choral instructor,
Mr Qiu, first helped the children understand and
appreciate lyrics of the hymn. With this shared
understanding of the content of the lyrics, the choir
was able to sing the hymn with confidence and
conviction, touching the heartstrings of the
congregation present. The choir shared that it had
been a memorable event as they joined the Catholic
community to celebrate Singapore’s 50th Birthday.
SING 50
Sing50 was a celebration concert of Singapore’s birthday and also of Singapore’s rich diversity
musical heritage in the past 50 years. This concert took place at the newly built National Stadium on
7 August 2015. The Straits Times and The Business Times of Singapore Press Holdings Limited
hoped to engage the community, especially students, and to develop a wider knowledge of and
appreciation for Singapore’s music and songs.
16
CHIJ Kellock choir was part of the 1,000-strong choir consisting of school choirs and members from
the grassroots. The 1,000-strong choir sang a selection of songs that represented the milestones in
the music scene in Singapore at the pre-concert segment. The performance by the choir harnessed
applause and appreciation from the 45,000 spectators. Our students enjoyed themselves
performing on stage in front of a huge audience.
String Ensemble
As part of the school’s Arts community
outreach programme, String Ensemble
members performed for the residents of St.
Joseph’s Home on 31 July 2015. Under the
baton of Mr Ivan Saraza, the String Ensemble
performed six pieces of music for the
residents. Their performance harnessed
applause and appreciation from the elderly.
This opportunity has given the String
Ensemble a platform to showcase their
learnings and to strengthen their music skills.
It was a memorable day for the members and
they were elated to be able to reach out to the community through their music.
The String Ensemble took this opportunity to present a cheque donation from CHIJ Kellock to St.
Joseph’s Home. The amount donated was
from this year’s Lunar New Year Hong
Bao collection which the students of CHIJ
Kellock had generously contributed. The
administrator was grateful for the
school’s generosity.

6. Celebrations in our Parish Church – Church of St. Teresa This year, Church of St. Teresa had the honour of celebrating the sacerdotal anniversaries of our
beloved priests – Fr. Michael Arro and Fr. Romeo Yu-Chang. May God continue to shower His
blessings on them both, guiding and protecting them always.
6.1 Fr. Michael Arro – 60th Sacerdotal Anniversary (3 July 2015)
Fr. Arro is a very inspirational figure in CHIJ
Kellock. He is well-loved by everyone here in
our Kellock family. We always look forward to
his homilies as he is able to help us see the
connections from the Scripture to our daily
lives. Fr. Arro’s generosity is felt by all in CHIJ
