VII. Installation:

Thefollowingisimportantinstallationandgeneralmaintenanceinformationforsub-mersibletransmitters.PleasecontactKellerAmericaforadditionalinstruction.

Supply Voltage-Adequatesupplyvoltageiscriticaltoensureproperoperationof4-20mApressureandleveltransmitters.Withouttheminimumrequiredvoltageavailableatthetransmitter,thetransmitterwillnotoutputthecorrectanalogvalue.

Manyanalogtransmitterswillappeartooperateproperlyevenwhenthesupplyvoltageisnotadequatetopowertheloopwhenthetransmittershouldbeoutputting20mA.Forexample,a10voltsupplymayappeartobeenoughtopowerananalogtransmitterwhenitisoutputting4mAwithzeropressureapplied,butasthetransmitter’soutputincreaseswithincreasingpressure,voltagedropsacrossotherdevicesintheloop(ana-loginputdevices,cableand/orexternalbarrierdevices)mayreducethesupplyvoltagetothetransmitterandpreventitfromprovidingthecorrectoutputaboveacertaininputpressure/levelthreshold.

KellerAmerica’s4-20mApressureandleveltransmittersfeaturemicroprocessorbasedsignalconditioning.Duringpowerup,thecircuitperformsachecksequencewhichde-termineswhetherthereissufficientsupplyvoltagetopoweralldevicesontheloop,bysettingtheoutputto~110%ofthemaximumvalue,i.e.,~22.5mA.Ifthesupplyvoltageisnotsufficienttosupply22.5mAtothecircuit,thenthemaximumpossiblecurrentwillbeseenontheanalogoutput,e.g.,17mA,andthetransmitterwillnotinitiatenormaloperation.

Thebenefitofthistechnologyisthattotalloopimpedanceisaccountedforpriortoplacingtheequipmentintoservice,preventingfalseindicationswhenthevoltagesupplyisinsufficienttosupporttheloopwithmaximumpressureapplied.

Mostcurrentloopscontainanaloginputdevices,indicatorsorothercomponentshavinginputimpedanceswhichmustbeconsideredwhencalculatingthesupplyvoltagesneed-ed.Forexampleananaloginputdevicewitha250OhmInputImpedancewillrequireanadditionalvoltageof5.5VDC(250x0.022=5.5)inadditiontotheminimumsupplyvoltagenecessaryforthetransmittertooperateproperlyovertheentirerange.

Transmitter Anchoring-ItisrecommendedthatKellersubmersibletransmittersbeinstalledinastillingwellorattachedtorigidconduitviaaconduitfittingintegraltothetransmitter,inordertopreventdamagetothetransmitterfromimpactwithimmovableobjects.Itisnotadvisabletotiethetransmittertoapumportopiping,asanyproblemwiththetransmittercouldrequirethatthepumpbepulledfromtheinstallation.

Someapplicationsrequirethetransmittertobesuspendedwithoutaprotectivestillingwellorconduitattachment.Inallinstallations,careshouldbetakentopreventdamagetothesubmersiblecable.

Transmitter Submersion -Damagetosubmersiblecablecanleadtofailureofthetrans-mitter.Kelleremploysaruggedcablejacketmaterialstominimizetheriskofcutsandabrasion.Still,takecarewhenloweringyourtransmitterintothewell,makingsurethecabledoesnotdragoversharpedges.Avoiddroppingthetransmitterfromthesurface.Donotsubmergeelectricalconnectionendofcable.

Condensation protection -Kellerhasoptimizedthesizeofthecableventtominimizetheoccurrenceofwatervaporincursion.Inareasofhighhumidity,itmaybedesirabletouseaDryingTubeAssembly(desiccant)orBellowsAssemblytopreventwatervaporfromenteringtheventtube.ContactKellerAmericafororderinginformation.

Bending of Cable-Ourjacketedcableisquiteflexible.However,caremustbetakentoensuretheventtubeintegraltothecableisnotcrimpedwhenbendingthecabletosuityourinstallation.Itisrecommendedthatthecablenotbebenttoaradiussmallerthan1inch.

Cable Compression -Manyusersemployacompressionfittingtosecureourcableasitentersajunctionbox.Caremustbetakenthatthefittingisnotovertightened,causingdamage to the cable and/or crimping the vent tube.

Position Sensitivity-Thetransmittershouldbeinstalledinaverticalposition,other-wiseitmayexhibitanoffset.Ifthetransmittermustbeinstalledinanypositionotherthanvertical,measuretheoutputwithnopressureappliedpriortoconnectiontoyourdisplay,PLC,orcontroller.Usethemeasuredvalueforyourzeropoint.

Limits of Pressure -KELLERpressuresensors,transducersandtransmittersaredesignedtowithstandacertainamountofoverpressurewithoutdamageorcalibrationshift.Itcanrangefrom15Xforthelowerpressurerangesto1.1Xforthehighestranges.Thisvalueisdifferentforeachproductandisreferredtointheproductliteratureas“Overpressure”.Itistheuser’sresponsibilitytoensurethattheproperKELLERproductischo-senfortheparticularpressureconditionsexpected.

Environmental conditions-EachKELLERproductisdesignedtobecompatiblewithaparticularenvironment.Itistheuser’sresponsibilitytoensurethattheKELLERproductisnotexposedtoanenvironmentalconditionforwhichitisnotdesigned.Thesecondi-tionscanincludeoperatingtemperaturerangeandexposuretohigh-pressurewaterjets,medianotcompatiblewiththematerialsofconstruction,submergenceoftransmittersnotdesignedforthatpurpose,orpotentiallyexplosiveatmospheres.AKELLERengi-neercanhelptheuserdeterminethecorrectchoiceofenclosuretosuittheparticularapplication.

Electrical conditions -EachKELLERproductisdesignedtooperateproperlywithinaspecificrangeofelectricalconditions.Thespecificproductlabeldefinestherating(s),ifany,thatappliestotheproducttowhichitisaffixed.Alltransmittersaredesignedtowithstandreversepolarityaswellasovervoltagetoacertainextent.Itistheuser’sresponsibilitytoensurethatallelectricalconnectionsaremadetotheKELLERproductsinaccordancewithKELLERrecommendationsaswellaslocalelectricalcode.Wirecolorsorconnectorpin-outsareeitherprintedonthelabelaffixedtotheproductorprovidedseparately.

Cleaning-WARNING!Undernocircumstancesshouldthemembrane,pressureinputport,ornosecaptotheKELLERdevicebeprobedwithanyobject.Damagetothesens-ingmembraneispermanentand,inmostcases,requiresrepairorreplacement.

Regardingmedia-isolatedproducts,shouldthepressureinputornosecaptothesensor,transducer,ortransmitterbecomefouled,itmaybecleanedinthefollowingmanner:

Thedeviceshouldbeslowlyloweredmembrane-endintoasolutionofwarm,soapywater.Careshouldbetakennottosubmergetheentiredevice,unlessitisspecificallydesignedforcontinuoussubmergence.Agitateinthesolutionfor20-30secondsoruntil

theinput/nosecaptothedeviceisclear.Finishbystirringinfreshwater.Wipedrywithasoftragortowel.

Anyrequesttocancelortorescheduletheshipmentthatisreceivedlessthan21daysfromthedatescheduledfortheshipmentoftheproductscoveredbytherequestmayberejectedasuntimely,ormaybeaccepteduponpaymentofthecancellationchargeof20%orareschedulingchargeof10%ofthesalespriceshownonthisquotationatKellerAmerica,Inc.’soption.KellerAmerica,Inc.willuseitsbesteffortstoshiponorevenbe-foretheestimatedshippingdatesindicated,butwillnotbeliableforanydelayorfailuretodeliver.KellerAmerica,Inc.shallnotbeliableforanyspecial,incidentalorconsequen-tialdamagesresultingfordeliverydelaysorinabilitytodeliver. WarrantyperiodfortheLevelgage,LevelRat,Acculevel,Microlevel,Preciseline,andVal-uelineproductsis24(twenty-four)monthsfromdateofshipment.Warrantyperiodforallotherproductshereinis12(twelve)monthsfromdateofshipment.Warrantyrepaircoversallapplicablepartsandlabor.Thiswarrantyisgiveninlieuofanyotherwarranty,expressorimplied.KellerAmerica,Inc.explicitlydisclaimsanyimpliedwarrantiesofmerchantabilityandfitnessforaparticularpurpose.Therearenowarranties,expressorimplied,thatextendbeyondthedescriptionherein.ThesoleandexclusiveremedyforanyclaimsagainstKellerAmerica,Inc.shallbethewarrantydescribedinthisdocument.Alldamages,directorconsequential,limitedtothedescribedwarrantyareexcluded.

Complaints-AllclaimsordisputesmustbemadeinwritingtoKellerAmerica,Inc.amaximumof60daysfromreceiptofthegoods,includingdiscoveryoffaultsnotpre-viouslyapparent.Ifthewarrantyclaimsarejustified,KellerAmerica,Inc.isfreeatitsdiscretiontorepair,replaceorissuecredit.Nofurthercompensationfordamageswillbemade.

Limitation of responsibility -Ourresponsibilityconcernsthecorrectfunctionofourproductsonly.Itcannotbeextendedtothewholesysteminwhichtheyareused.Ourresponsibilityislimitedtothereplacement,repairorreimbursementofthegoodsweagreearedefectiveornon-conforming.Theclaimmustbeinwritingwithin60daysfromreceiptofthegoods.
