PARTNERS: The project is an industry- government consortium with industry partners being Murfin Drilling Co., Inc., the operator, John O. Farmer, Inc. and White Eagle Exploration, Inc. (partners), Kinder-Morgan CO 2 Company, LP, EPCO Carbon Dixoide Products, Inc., U.S. Energy Partners, LLC, and Transpetco Engineering. Government partners are U.S. Department of Energy, University of Kansas (Kansas Geological Survey and Tertiary Oil Recovery Project), and the State of Kansas (Dept. of Commerce). Seed money was provided by the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation (KTEC). The construction of a new ethanol plant in Russell provides a close source of supply for the demonstration project, and possibly for small commercial floods in the area. U.S. Energy Partners, LLC, owner of the ethanol plant, and EPCO Inc. joined the project as a partners. 2003 Purpose of Demonstration: * Determine the technical and economic feasibility of CO 2 miscible flooding in the L-KC in central Kansas. * Develop reservoir data for the L-KC to facilitate future commercial CO floods. 2 * Gain an understanding of the operations and costs involved in implementing a Co flood. 2 2000 5 15 20 25 30 10 Porosity (%) Spectrum Layer 1 Layer 2 Layer 3 Layer 4 Layer 5 Layer 6 Map View of Layer 2 Characterization And Simulation Drill CO 2 Injection Well 1 mm Layer 2 2894.2 Plug Phi %34.1 K md 113.9 Updated October 29, 2003 Pilot Well Configuration The pilot project will include two oil producers, one CO injector 2 and two water injection containment wells. CO injected will 2 force remaining oil to the producers while water injection wells keep the Co in the pattern. 2 2001 Ethanol Plant Construction Operations began Nov. 2001 USEP Ethanol Plant 2002 CO Injection 2 Injection slated for Fall 2003 Final reservoir simulation, installation of surface facilities and repressuring the reservoir will be the sequence of activities prior to CO injection. It is estimated 2 that it will take three to five years to inject the ~0.27 BCF of CO (15,700 tons) to 2 be injected and additional oil recovery is expected to be approximately ~20 MBO.
