Kayla R. Rusin Phone: 248.376.4591 E-Mail: [email protected] November 18, 2011 To Whom It May Concern: As a journalism major with four PR internships, I have experience from both sides of the desk, making me the right fit for a position in marketing, communications or public relations. My goal for employment is to utilize the skills that I have acquired from the variety of positions I have held and apply them to a growing company in an effort to achieve their journalistic and communication goals. I have knowledge of print, online and social media. I have experience with PR and feature writing. I have been the Director of Public Relations and Marketing for Grand Central Magazine, CMU’s student-run online feature magazine, for the past two years. I have been successful in my positions at Central Michigan, such as:

• Within my last two years as Director of Public Relations for Grand Central Magazine, our web hits have over tripled.

• I have managed several campaigns both with Grand Central Magazine and PRSSA.

• I created the first Grand Central Magazine media kit, sold the first online advertisement and secured numerous sponsorships under my supervision.

My vast employment experience has prepared me for a career in public relations and communications, such as:

• During my position with University Communications and Michigan Humane Society, I have witnessed both organizations faced with an internal crisis and assisted each with handling the media and communicating internal affairs.

• I have written numerous press materials and feature articles, which have been published for both print and online.

I am whole-heartedly dedicated to my work and I am passionate about seeing projects from start to finish. I take pride in my work, myself, and the company that I represent. I strongly appreciate your consideration for employment. Sincerely, Kayla R. Rusin

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the redesigned GCMag.Org! With this new layout, we hope to continue to bring you all the written features, videos, and photos we’ve been doing in a cleaner, more stylish setting.

The editors and I have a great year planned for the magazine, with hopes to take home another award from the Society of Professional Journalists. Look out in the coming weeks for the launch of our big multimedia project, GCMagTV, headed by our new Managing Editor Paul Young.

We’re dedicated to telling feature stories about the people of and around CMU. With that in mind, we want to hear from you! If you want to get involved with the magazine, simply watch for prompts on Facebook or Twitter to send in your photos. This website doesn’t run without viewer participation, and photos are just another way to make readers a bigger part of GCM.

If photos aren’t your thing, you can also weigh in with an opinion on hot button issues when we post questions on the site or one of our social media outlets.

Enough from me. Go explore the redesigned site, and look at the hard work our writers and editors have put in to bring these stories to you. And always, let us know what you think in the comment section!

Many people travel to Paris in hopes that they will find true love. For CMU students Ben Touchette and Lindsay Robinson, they found love of a different kind.

While studying abroad in Paris, these apparel merchandising and design students discovered inspiration, gained confidence, and had opportunities to attend and assist at various fashion shows.

“Just being able to see the caliber of the shows that are happening internationally really opened our eyes to what is possible to accomplish as students in apparel design,” says Robinson. “It really gave us the confidence to gather our inspiration and execute our ideas.”

After their summer in Paris, Touchette and Robinson worked together to create their collection for the 2011 Threads Fashion Show in April. Winners of the awards for “Best Duo,” “Best Construction” and “Future Fashion Entrepreneur,” Touchette and Robinson focused their collection on translucent fabrics, their knowledge of haute couture techniques and a new-age “femme fatale” style. •

August 19th, 2009 To whom it may concern: It is not often that you get an opportunity to work with someone that you would take the time to write a letter of recommendation. In this case it is a pleasure! Kayla Rusin came to me with great enthusiasm and a willingness to learn the sales end of the radio business while interning for 94.7 WCSX in the Detroit market. As an intern in the promotions wing I was impressed with her ambition to make the most of her experience here and not only learn the promotional end but how it all tied together in the sales department. She was always on time, went above and beyond the assignments I gave her. She even offered on one occasion to take on a project home with her! Her phone skills were excellent; she picked things up very quickly and on her last day I was in a bind and her computer skills saved me with a proposal! She was introduced to proposals, brainstorming meetings, cold calling, contracts and media monitors. She was a pleasure to work with and if I was in a position to hire at this moment she would be working for me! She’s is certainly on my radar for future opportunities. You would be lucky to have her on your team! Any questions please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Stacey Latona – Account Manager WCSX 248-444-7792
