KEEPING IN TOUCH
World Teachers’ Day This Friday, across Queensland, we celebrate
“World Teachers’ Day”. As principal at Kawungan I am incredibly
grateful to all of our teachers for the amazing work they do with
our students. Each and every day our teachers go above and beyond
for their students as they aspire for all students at Kawungan to
reach their potential. I am sure you join with me in thanking our
amazing teachers for the incredible passion and professionalism
that they bring to their work.
Values - Courtesy The value that we have addressed throughout
this week is courtesy. Discussions have been
had in classrooms around being polite through respectful
attitude and behaviour towards others, using manners, showing
kindness, being generous and ultimately doing the right thing. So
many of our students show courtesy in simple acts of kindness and
consideration every day. It is these simple acts of courtesy that
help sustain a positive culture within our school. Swimming
Carnival – Friday 13th November Students in grades 4, 5 and 6 have
been given a note with information about our swimming carnival.
Some 9 year old Year Three students may also receive a note if
their 50m stroke times qualify. This note is due back next
Thursday, 5th November. Please note that no parents are to attend
the carnival due to Covid 19 protocols. There will be limited food
available at the canteen (only snack food), students need to bring
their lunch with them. Please note, there is no Hervey Bay District
Swimming Carnival this year. Mark Jones PRINCIPAL

P&C NEWS Happy Week Four everyone! We’re almost half way
through the term already. Yay! World Teacher’s Day World Teacher’s
Day is this Friday, 30th October, and we would love to share a
special shout out to all our amazing teachers at KSS. This year we
have seen, perhaps more clearly than ever, the true capacity and
calibre of our teachers. On this day, we will take the opportunity
to celebrate all the love, time, leadership and dedication our
teachers have put in to our school and students through COVID-19.
THANK YOU KSS TEACHERS!
“You teach us in a room, And you teach us on zoom. You teach us
at our house,
You teach us with our mouse. You teach us here and there.
You teach us everywhere. And that’s how we know you care.”
To The Best Quaran-Teacher’s of 2020 Happy World Teacher’s day!
Tuckshop
Next Friday, 6th November, is World Tuckshop Day. We are so very
lucky at Kawungan to also have such a committed core team at our
school tuckshop. Please join us in thanking our
tuckshop staff by drawing a picture or sharing a message of
thanks on your tuckshop bags on this day. We are certain that our
staff and volunteers will really appreciate and be grateful of the
special thank you. Tuckshop will continue to open Tuesday through
to Friday this term, and will follow their current ordering
procedures. Students are still able to drop orders and money to the
tuckshop in a brown paper bag before school, or parents who wish to
pay by EFTPOS, or have any queries, need to please phone Danielle
at the tuckshop directly on 4197 9134. Thank you for your support.
The Uniform Shop The Uniform Shop is open Monday and Friday
mornings 8.15am - 9.15am on the grassed area at the front of the
school. Our team of volunteers will take your order and then
deliver the order to your child’s classroom. Correct amounts in
cash are preferred or EFTPOS is available. Please note: sports
shirts are low in stock and order forms will be sent out Term One
next year. If you have any
enquiries please email [email protected]. Graduation
Bears/Balls This year, we are offering our Year Six students (and
any other families) the opportunity to order a ‘graduation bear,
soccer ball or football’. These are perfect to preserve memories
and mark milestone occasions be it as school leavers, sports clubs
etc and come with a marker ready to go. Order forms were sent home
with all Year 6 students last week, and spares/extras can be
collected from the office. Bears are $20 each, and balls are $18
each. All order forms and monies must be returned to the office
before Wednesday next week, 4th November. Thank you to so many who
have ordered already.
Picture Products We have had confirmation that our beautiful
mementos will be in the mail back to us this week and our fingers
are crossed for some speedy postage. Miss Walter will be in touch
via email as soon as they arrive. School Banking Don’t forget
school banking is every Thursday. Bank books need to be handed in
at the classroom at the start of the day. Thank you to our
dedicated team of banking volunteers for your help on this day each
week. Containers for Change Thank you to those who have supported
us already with your container donations – every container counts!
Anyone wanting to further support our KSS community can do so by
donating their bottles and/or cans to any recycling centre and
quoting our code C10049765. Thank you for your extra support with
this. P&C Meeting Our next P&C meeting is Monday, 9th
November at 5.30pm, in the back of the library, if you would like
to join us. Have another fabulous fortnight everyone. Team

PE NEWS Hello Term Four! It has been beautiful weather for our
swimming block and we are now 3 weeks in. All of our students gain
something from our swimming lessons, whether it be improving their
confidence in the water, their fitness and/or their strokes. They
learn about water safety and scenarios to better prepare them for
real life situations they may find themselves in. Most of all I
love seeing the smiles between peers and sense of achievement
when they push themselves to try new things.
Wide Bay Representation Congratulations to our students who have
represented the Wide Bay at State Championships this year.
Recently, Rachael N and Breanna T competed with the Wide Bay Hockey
team. Imani E is currently competing at the Gold Coast this week
for basketball. Caelan B will be heading away for cricket
representing the Wide Bay. Good luck to our Kawungan students yet
to compete. AFLQ Finals, Maroochydore Both our boys and girls teams
played their hearts out at the AFLQ Schools Cup finals in
Maroochydore on Friday 16th October. We scored points in every game
and held our heads high even though it was a tough day of
competition. Mrs Robertson and Mr Dalton couldn’t be prouder of
every single player, our students stayed positive, had excellent
sportsmanship and put a lot of effort into every single game. Every
game we played we grew in confidence.
-
We would like to thank Mrs Jankovic for helping our teams on the
day and the parents who came along to cheer and encourage our
teams, it was very much appreciated. Many of our students said they
look forward to signing up in town next year for club AFL as they
enjoyed the training and gameplay throughout the year.

MUSIC NEWS Music Awards Night Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the
Annual Music Awards Night at the Brolga Theatre will not go ahead.
Instead, we will be holding three music nights at school, so as to
minimise the number of people in the audience. Each ensemble will
get their own performance night. It does mean some families may
need to come to more than one night but each concert should only
last between 20-30 minutes. Trophies will be presented at each
night for outstanding music students. Students will need to wear
their music uniform. If you have any problems with this contact Mr
Gillard as soon as possible. There will be no charge for these
concerts.
Dates for Concerts Week 5 Monday, November 2 6:30pm – Senior
Choir Night Week 6 Thursday, November 12 6:30pm
– String Night for both String Orchestra and Beginners Strings.
This date has changed since previously published last term. Week 7
Monday, November 16 6:30pm – Concert Band Night
