Here is the information for the Wednesday P.M. Class for February with Carole Hlibka. I am giving two amounts, one for the smaller one (aprrox. 45” sq., can be made larger by using larger borders), as shown at the January meeting, and one for a larger one (approx. 56” X 46”). The amount for the larger one is shown in brackets. If you wish, you can make a scrappy look but the colours should be close so that you don’t loose the look of the design. 1. Lt. fabric 6 (9) 2.5” strips, X WOF (width of fabric) 2. Dk fabric, same as #1 3. * Setting triangles 2, (3) 12 & 5/8” blocks. Cut each block on the diagonals so you end

up with 4 triangles from each square 4. * Corner triangles, 2 (2), 6 & 5/8” blocks. Cut each block on the diagonal once so you

end up with 2 triangles from each square. 5. Inner border. 4 (5) 1.5” strips X WOF 6. Outer border. 5 (6) 4.5” strips X WOF (or larger if you like, that is all the fabric I had

left from the blocks etc…) 7. Binding: 5 (5) strips 2.5” 8. Backing: depends upon width and how you want to piece it. * The triangles can be whatever colour you like. However, I made mine the lighter colour so they blended in and therefore couldn’t be seen as well. If the big 8” square (made with four of the segments) is made with the darker colours in the middle, then the lighter colours in the triangles blend in. If you want more contrast, then a darker colour will work just as well. Also, if using darker colours in the triangles, you would likely use a lighter colour in the inner border and maybe a print of something to match the colours in your main blocks. To get a head start, you can sew the dark and light 2.5” strips together, press toward the dark, and then cut them into 4.5” segments.

THANK YOU

"Thanks go the Mary Louise Hamilton, for expertly guiding the class on "1/2

square & 4 Patch", pattern, showing also, how different "the look" can be,

by re-arranging the blocks differently. Great stuff, Mary Louise.

Vicky describes it this way, "The flowers in the vase are 3D applique. The work-shop consists of more than just the flowers. The flowers can be interchanged thus making the wall hanging more personal and unique to the maker." We hope you can join us for any or all of our workshops. We learn so much each time, and the fellowship is great!

A GREAT ITEM FOR QUILTERS!

Ian Love of Northern Sewing Machine Service, has just become a Canadian distributor for the SewEziTM Company of New Zealand. The SewEzi table is a portable lightweight folding sew-ing machine table ergonomically designed to save strain on your neck and back. Take it to your next workshop, retreat or for just around the house when space is a premium. Table inserts are available for a range of the most popular domestic sewing machines or can be custom cut to fit yours. My interest in this unique sewing machine table started after my wife Joanne had at-tended a workshop in California, where a number of participants had a SewEzi table with them. In the process of purchasing a table it became evident that the cost of shipping, via international choices available to SewEzi USA, was just slightly less then the cost of the table! We began wondering if others in Canada were as interested in purchasing this table but like us begrudge the cost of having it delivered. After continuing discussion with the owners of SewEzi I decided to become their representative. Though located in Whitehorse, Yukon, as in any major center, there is a range of ship-ping possibilities from Canada Post to major courier services. The most economical being Canada Post with several delivery options available, the choice is yours. For more information please go to the SewEzi website: www.sewezi.com, or contact me by email or telephone: [email protected] or (867) 393-3762

A Thank You Letter from Rural Outreach Committee (ROC) To Helping Hands

Dear Bunny, just a note to let you know that we found loving homes for all the quilts you gave to ROC. The child’s quilt went to a little girl (5 years old) whose mother was charged with abuse. She lives with her father and brother. In our business most of the cases involve women who are abused but in this case the mother abused her eight year old son. Last year there wasn’t any money for toys because the Dad wasn’t able to find work (he builds and repairs barns). He is struggling to raise two young children on his own. The little boy said to one of our volunteers “I know there isn’t a Santa Claus, because last year I was good and didn’t get anything and I know kids who were bad and they got tons of stuff.” We found a family who was willing to buy toys and clothes for the children and ROC gave them one of our hampers with turkey, food stuffs for a month, gift cards, food certificates, etc. the family never approached us directly because the Dad was too humiliated. It was all done through a friend of mine whose children are the same age as the family in need and they know each other through school. I speak the truth when I say that those who need it the most are fre-quently the ones we never hear from or we need to coax into accepting some help. I know the little girl will love the child’s quilt. May you have a Blessed Christmas and please thank all the ladies who make the beautiful quilts, for their kindness and generosity. Their work brings much comfort to those who are struggling. Sincerely, Rev. Cathy Stone Executive Director

FOR THE FUN OF IT!
