Fight forreal changeSOUTH AFRICAN statues and theirrelevance are currently a rallying point towhich pro-transformation disciples flock. The removal of the Cecil John Rhodes
statue from the University of Cape Town(UCT) campus started a renewed cry fortransformation in South Africa.Unfortunately, the purity of this new-
found passion is tainted by those whohave no idea of what the true purpose oftransformation should be.The statue of Mahatma Gandhi in
Durban was brazenly defaced by a groupof “transformation-activists”.Ghandi is globally hailed as a pioneer in
social transformation, which he achievedby being a living example of positivechange. But is it really the country’s statues
that stand in the way of true transforma-tion? Surely an inanimate object does notdictate the rate or success of SouthAfrica’s political, financial and socialtransformation. Those who now so fervent-ly want to achieve transformation throughremoval and vandalism of the country’sstatues will perhaps make a more sustain-able impact if they focus on the truetransformation obstacles. The country’s real transformational
issues are not made of bronze and con-crete. Would the energy and passionbehind the youth’s hatred of the country’sstatues not be better used in protestingthe behaviour of some of the leaders of
this country?Rather demand transformation in the
current living standards in South Africa.A statue does not have the power to
change anything, but a governmentdoes. For the past 22 years South Africanshave been living in a democracy, yet
there are still voters living in squalor.Transform the way we as a country
look at violence against women andchildren. Think of the impact ademonstration like the #RhodesMustFallprotest will have if it could be done inthe name of something more worthy, likestanding up for the vulnerable citizens ofSouth Africa. A statue cannot stealmoney. But corrupt politicians can, and doevery day. It would mean so much moreif the thousands of students involved inthis statue protest would stand as one andrather demand transformation in mattersthat can still be remedied. We as a country have a talent for
protesting. Can we not at least use it tofight relevant and current transformationissues?Removing a statue will not cure poverty,
stop a rape from occurring or stemcorruption. If anything should be removed,it is the rotten elements in current SouthAfrican politics, social development, service delivery and moral behaviour.South Africa as a whole should focus on
transforming in a way that will create abetter future for all its citizens.
Themore you give,themore you receive
Pastor Gert Kriel
YOU shouldn’t go to church only toreceive. Many Christians are disappointedwith their churches and church leadersbecause their sole purpose to go to churchis to get their needs met. They approach the church with a
consumer mentality. They just want, want, want and go to church just for themsel-ves . . . only to return home disappointedand full of criticism. Paul says in Col. 3:16that we should “teach and admonish oneanother”.The church is the place for the needy,
but also the place where the needy shouldminister to one another. In the Bible itstates: The Epistle of Paul to the Colossi-ans. The letter wasn’t written to the pastor, but “to the saints and faithful brethren inChrist.” (1:2)Believers who serve others grow much
quicker and stronger in the Lord, thanthose who only focus on themselves.
Love is a paradox; the more you give itaway, the more you receive it. Everyonehas something to give. Just ask yourself:“What do I have to give to God’s people?”You don’t always need to give a mightyprophetic word or a great teaching.Sometimes your brother just needs a hug
or a smile, something we are all able togive. Go to church to give, and you shallreceive.Luk. 6:38: Give, and it shall be given to
you, good measure pressed down and shakentogether and running over, they shall giveinto your bosom. For with the same measurethat you measure, it shall be measured toyou again.

WINTER is coming. And here inKathu and its surrounding areasit usually means extreme coldspells and frost. This is not good news for
garden enthusiasts who spend alot of time, effort and money ontheir gardens. The damage thatthe extreme cold weather can doto a garden is sometimes irrepara-ble.It is necessary for those who
treasure their gardens to startpreparing for the cold by protec-ting their delicate plants.
There are several indigenoustrees that are frost resistant andwill survive the winter withoutprotection. These trees include the carob
tree, wild olive tree and the bayleaf. These trees are deciduousand will lose their leaves duringthe winter. This is not necessarilya bad thing because it gives thegarden lots of sunshine duringthe cold season. Hardy shrubslike the purple-leaved sand olive, the pink butterfly bush and greensand olive will also endure thecold weather.Frost cloth is an essential tool
in protecting delicate plants.Protective frost cloth can be
bought at any good nursery. Frostcloth does not prevent the plantto “breathe” and can be left onthe plant for the duration of thewinter.Young plants are especially
sensitive to the cold. A peg shouldbe placed next to the plant withthe tip higher than the plantshoot. The frost cloth is then folded
over the peg and plant to form ashelter. Aloes are also sensitive tofrosty weather and would benefitfrom frost cloth.

as dit kom by gehalte-kleuterskole.
baie berig oor kleuterskole waarindie leerlinge mishandel is.Die Petite Bumper-dagsorgsen-
Gevalle soos hierdie moet dien as
is veiligheid by die skool allerbelangrik.“Ons het sekuriteitshekke by elke
Dit moet so by elke skoolwees,” sê Page.

“As jy inspring, gee ek jouR1,” het my pa laat hoor.Binne oomblikke was ek in
Hoekom? Nostalgie.Nostalgie se tydsbereke-
ning is byna altyd onvanpas.
oor remakes is.
