PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

I take great pleasure in welcoming you along with your family to Gulbarga for our annual conference KUACON 2012 on the 3rd and 4th November, 2012. Although, it may seem far away, conferences at such places allow members to interact more closely and family members to join in the fun and sightseeing. This has been amply demonstrated by the overwhelming response to the very successful KUACONs at Kodaikanal and Bijapur. In fact, plans are afoot to book another KUACON Express, so that the fun begins from Bangalore railway station itself ! The general mood at present is muted due to the errant monsoon and the Holy month of Ramadan. No matter, we can always look forward to the celebration of Id and VijayaDashmi and pray for rain! Dear Members, Greetings from Belgavi The 17th Annual conference of Karnataka Urology Association will be held at Gulbarga on 3rd &4th of November 2012. It is being hosted by the Department of Surgery, MR Medical college, Gulbarga and Association of Surgeons of India, Gulbarga City Chapter. Gulbarga is one of the biggest cities of North Eastern Karnataka. It was Capital Bahamani Kingdom in the 14th Century The city has holy places Like Sharanbasaveshwar temple,Khaja Bandanawaz Darga, Sai Mandir, Buddha Vihar, Bahamani Fort, In addition, there are many heritage places nearby worth seeing. I request all the members to attend this conference with their families. This newsletter contails the details of prizes and awards. REPORT OF CME – KUA-CUE 2012

‘KUA CME 2012’ organized by NU Trust, on behalf of Karnataka Urology Association, saw over 50 postgraduates from Karnataka and the neighboring states attending. The theme of the CME was ‘Understanding Urology.’ Active interaction between the faculty and the postgraduates lent vibrancy to the program.

Dr DILIP ADAPPA AWARD FOR BEST PAPER This annual competition is open to any member of the KUA, full or associate, and post graduates in urology (M.Ch or Dip N B). The paper must be in field of urology or any ancillary discipline, contributing to the practice of Urology. The material being presented in the paper should not have been presented at any other forum, either in the form of a publication, paper presentation, poster or video etc. The paper should preferably be the work of one author and written by him. In case of collaborative work, a certificate from the others, stating the authors major contribution should accompany the paper. All papers to be considered for the award, should specifically state on a separate accompanying sheet, that the paper is for the Dr Dilip Adappa award. The abstracts of the paper, must reach the office of the Secretary of KUA, before 15th October 2012. NU TRUST BEST VIDEO PRIZE This annual competition is open to any member of the KUA, full or associate, and post graduates in urology (M.Ch or Dip N B). The paper must be in field of urology or any ancillary discipline, contributing to the practice of Urology. The material being presented in the paper should not have been presented at any other forum, either in the form of a publication, paper presentation, poster or video etc. The paper should preferably be the work of one author and written by him. In case of collaborative work, a certificate from the others, stating the authors major contribution should accompany the paper. All papers to be considered for the award, should specifically state on a separate accompanying sheet, that the paper is for the NU Trust best video prize The abstracts of the paper, must reach the office of the Secretary of KUA, before 15th October 2012. Video to be submitted only in Windows media player compatible format on a VCD/DVD as hard copy with the form and same deadlines apply. BANGALORE MEDICAL COLLEGE BEST POSTER PRIZE. This annual competition is open to any member of the KUA, full or associate, and post graduates in urology (M.Ch or Dip N B). The paper must be in field of urology or any ancillary discipline, contributing to the practice of Urology. The material being presented in the paper should not have been presented at any other forum, either in the form of a publication, paper presentation, poster or video etc.

The paper should preferably be the work of one author and written by him. In case of collaborative work, a certificate from the others, stating the authors major contribution should accompany the paper. All papers to be considered for the award, should specifically state on a separate accompanying sheet, that the paper is for the Bangalore Medical College Best Poster prize. The abstracts of the paper, must reach the office of the Secretary of KUA, before 15th October 2012. Poster size should be 4x3ft. DAVANGERE POSTGRADUATE SYMPOSIUM. The participants of the symposium will be postgraduates in Urology (M.Ch/Dip NB) from Karnataka. Four postgraduates will be selected based on a write up of a particular allotted topic which would be screened by a panel of jury which will select the participating postgraduates. The moderator for the symposium will be selected by the executive committee of KUA. The Topic for the symposium will be decided by the moderator in consultation with the council. The best postgraduate will be selected by the jury based on the performance in the symposium. Rs 750/= and a certificate will be awarded to all the participating postgraduates. Rs 2000/= and certificate for the Best postgraduate. Dr RAJU MYSOGUS GUEST LECTURE This Guest lecture will be delivered in the full Annual meeting of the Karnataka Urology Association. The guest lecture would be awarded to an Eminent Urologist or allied specialist which would have a bearing on speciality of Urology. The lecture would be for 30 minutes.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS The paper must be the Original and unpublished work of the authors. Only members of Karnataka Urology Association will be allowed to present papers/posters/videos during the Annual conference. Applicant members may also be allowed to make presentations provided they submit proof of having applied for membership. The member of KUA submitting scientific paper must have registered for the conference before his paper can be considered for the presentation. In case the presenting author is unable to present the paper he should inform the secretary and submit the name of the co-author who will present the paper in his stead. If the presenting Author/Co-Author fails to present their scientific paper in the conference after its acceptance without appropriate justification they will be debarred from presenting scientific papers for the next 1 year. FORMATTING ESSENTIALS The abstract should consist of a maximum of 250 words typed in single space in the provided form. It will be printed as such in the abstract booklet by a photo offset technique, hence spelling and typographical errors, as well as folding of the form, are to be avoided. Name of all authors, first name, initial of middle name and last name. Name of the presenting author should be first and underlined. Degrees and prefixes should be mentioned. Institution affiliations of the authors should be mentioned. This & subsequent abstract should be printed in “ARIAL FONT SIZE 11” One line should be left blank between authors & abstract. No line to be left between title and the authors. Abstract should be structured into introduction, Aims, Material & Methods, Results & Conclusions. Video submission Only one paper should be included with one cassette/CD. The cassette must be subtitled with the abstract. Original tapes should not be sent. Submit VHS-PAL tapes only. Maximum duration of the tapes should be of 8 minutes. INTIMATION OF APROVAL The Abstract are accepted after scrutiny/review. The Hon. Secretary will notify the main author about acceptance of their abstract by 25th October 2012 PRESENTATION The timings for podium presentation: 8 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for discussion Video Presentation: 8 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for discussion Poster presentation: 3 minutes for presentation of moderated poster and 2 minutes for discussion.

The presentation of the poster should be in PowerPoint format and only three slides are permitted. The poster for display should be 4 x 3 feet in size.
