What does Karma do?

• Karma is a peer to peer filesharing software which works much like LimeWire, Ares etc.

• But, the way it works under the hood is a little bit different – we’ll explain that in the next slide.

Karma is delay-tolerant

• On regular P2P software, if a file is not available on the network at the time you search for it, it is not shown in the search results.

• In Karma, we make sure you get the files you want, whether they’re offline or online when you search.

Page 4: Karma User Guide

How does it work?

• Karma is social – your friends help you get the files you want!

• If you’re not online when a file you requested becomes available, Karma distributes that file to your friends!

Page 5: Karma User Guide

How does it work?

• Because you and your friends are generally online together, you’re more likely to get the file you want the next time you’re online –because all your friends have it!

• This makes the Karma network delay tolerant!

What does this mean for you?

• Karma is based on the principle of ‘what goes around, comes around’.

• Because your bandwidth is being used to replicate files for your friends, your friends do the same for you!

• The more you share, the more you get.
