Kardan Institute is founded with 12 students in a rental facility in Macroryan area of Kabul. The main goal was to provide short-term certificate programs.

Kardan expands academic programs introducing diploma level programs, enrolling around 600 students, with around 20% women participation.

• Law and Political Science undergraduate programs are launched.

• Kardan University celebrates the graduation of the first cohort of BBA students.

• Kardan University launches Kardan School of Excellence, offering primary and secondary level education in Kabul.

BRIEF HISTORYKardan University launched its programs in 2002 when Roeen Rahmani and some friends spent $300 on an overhead projector and a rented room to teach business management to young Afghans. Today, Kardan University is a household name, renowned for its educational excellence. The University has earned international reputation for its commitment to innovation, internationalization and academic excellence.

• Kardan University initiates the accreditation process through the International Association of Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) becoming the first candidate for accreditation, representing Afghanistan.

• Student enrollment reaches a peak of 6,000.

• Kardan University leads the establishment of Afghanistan’s first association of private universities.

At Kardan University, we recognize that developing curriculum that reflects industry trends and is aligned with the international educational standards is key to academic success. The Committee of Courses, the Faculty Board and the Academic Council oversee the entire curriculum development process. Kardan University’s curriculum is reviewed every two years, ensuring alignment with the national and international standards. One of the major efforts of our curriculum revision includes outreach to the Kardan University alumni, and soliciting their feedback about the courses taught.

From well-equipped computer labs and cafe to modern conference facilities, we pride ourselves in our ability to deliver quality services to our students, alumni and staff.

The Kardan University mission is to deliver world-class library experience and information services to meet the needs of the university community and academia, as a whole. Kardan University’s libraries are slated for a rapid expansion, renovation, and addition of new services. Students can enjoy computer facilities, access to course and research collections, as well as quiet reading rooms.

The Kardan University cafes offer an innovative and affordable priced menu. It is open to the public and serves a broad selection of items that appeal to every taste and dietary restriction. The cafes provide a fantastic salad option, creative hot meals and a variety of fast food options. In addition to its delicious food, the cafes are a great place to gather and connect with the Kardan University community. The cafes are open every day and offer a variety of drinks and snacks between scheduled meals. The cafes are located in Parwan II and Taimani campuses.

Kardan University’s computer labs offer modern IT services to students and faculty throughout the school year. Students may drop in to use computer labs during available open hours. Computer labs include Windows systems, printers, a wide variety of current software, and high-speed connections to the Internet. Additional resources in select computer labs include flatbed scanners; audio, video, and image editing; and web and print publishing.

Kardan University’s newly built Convention Hall in Taimani campus has a capacity of 450 participants. The convention hall is an ideal learning space where Kardan community holds lecture series, seminars and major university events.

Need to do some group-work or work on a team project? Kardan University’s breakout rooms are specially designed for group-work, team exercises and joint assignments for our students.

Kardan University’s transportation offers pick and drop services across major locations in Kabul exclusively for female students ensuring student mobility, safety, and convenience.

A Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) is available for students as preparation for a professional career or advanced academic study. We aim to give each student with a solid foundation in both computer science theory and programming practice through a balanced mix of lectures, group assignments, and lab exercises. We are committed to exposing our students to the challenges and research problems involved in developing cutting-edge computer software. A Bachelor of Computer Science degree will enable you to become a specialist and leader in computing, networking and software development. The Bachelor of Computer Sciences (BCS) is a four-year program offered on a full-time basis at Kardan University. The department follows an international standard credit based system where students are required to complete 138 credits in order to graduate with a BCS degree.The university admits students into the BCS program twice a year in March and September. Over 500 students are currently pursuing bachelor and diploma level computer science programs.

DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. The Civil Engineering degree represents the first step towards professional certification and advanced academic study in multiple sub-fields. Civil engineers work in fast-paced, challenging and rewarding professions around the world. You could be involved at all levels of project design, implementation and follow up.These projects might include the design and construction of bridges, tunnels, dams and major residential and corporate buildings. As Afghanistan enters a challenging period of transformation, demands for highly skilled civil engineers will inevitably remain high over the coming decade.Kardan University’s Civil Engineering department has grown exponentially over the years and is consistently ranked among the top and most competitive engineering departments in Afghanistan.

The Civil Engineering department was founded in 2008 to address the increasing demand for skilled engineering professionals in Afghanistan.The department focuses on major subdivisions of civil engineering, including (a) structural; (b) geotechnical; (c) environmental; (d) sanitary;

(e) water resources; and (f) transportation engineering. Around 350 students are enrolled in the Civil Engineering department, pursuing credit-based courses across the civil engineering sub-divisions.

The mission of the Civil Engineering department is to prepare graduates for professional practice and advanced studies through a progressive program firmly drawing on strong technical skills, fundamentals, experiential learning and sustainability.The department is committed to providing quality education, equipping our students with durable knowledge and skills in the specialized field of civil engineering. The Civil Engineering department has a vigorous and diverse education and research program.

We focus on preparing our students with the rigorous technical background anchored in the fundamentals of civil engineering combined with the breadth of related knowledge crucial to your long-term professional and academic success.The department is proud of its achievements in organizing academic conferences, field trips for senior students, challenging laboratory assignments, and constantly updating our curriculum to meet national and international standards.

The Bachelor of Civil Engineering is a credit-based program to be completed over a four period on a full time basis. Students are required to complete 148 credits in order to qualify for graduation. Around 350 students, including women, are pursuing BCE degree at Kardan University. The University admits students into the BCS program twice a year in March and September.

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICSThe Department of Economics at Kardan University was established in 2002.The Department brings together highly qualified national and international faculty, guest lecturers, and industry experts to prepare our students for challenging career opportunities. The Department offers degrees in Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Science in Economics (BS.Econ) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the Management Sciences Campus in Kabul. The Department of Economics works closely with the international donor agencies, government ministries, private sector firms and foreign universities to create scholarship, employment and exchange programs for our students.Over 1700 students, 20 percent of whom are women, currently pursue bachelor level programs at the Department of Economics. Since its inception, the Department has produced over 3,000 graduates, representing

the country’s most dynamic and skilled professionals. In order to promote student exchange, research and faculty development initiatiatives, the Department has established major international partnerships with top institutions and universities around the world, including:

• International Country Management Association (ICMA);

• Girne American University of Cyprus; • Audencia Nantes School of Management in

France; • University of Peshawar; and• New Silk Road Generation.

The study of economics is central to an understanding of business, markets, government, international affairs and human development. The Bachelor of Science in Economics is designed for those students who wish to pursue careers as analysts, economists, consultants and managers at government ministries and private sector organizations.

The government, whose economic policies shape the growth and stability of the national economy, requires experienced and globally minded economists. The private sector, which is an important instrument for socioeconomic transformation, also needs well trained economists.

The Bachelor of Science in Economics applies a credit-based system. Successful graduates must complete 138 credit hours over four years of full time study either in the mornings or evenings. Students pursue both core courses emphasizing competencies in economic fundamentals and general courses, which improve students’ understanding of the general contextual dynamics. DIPLOMA PROGRAMSKardan University offers diploma level programs across the information technology, business administration and English language fields.These foundational programs enable the students to acquire the required skills, knowledge and abilities not only to become

successful in the workplace but also pursue advanced studies.Diploma programs bring together dedicated national and international faculty members as well as accomplished industry experts.

The primary objective of the Diploma in Information Technology (DIT) is to develop the capabilities of the students to become successful and results-oriented IT professionals and administrators in public and private sector organizations. The DIT comprises four semesters to be completed over a one-year period. Students receive theoretical and practical lessons in the fundaments of IT, particularly related to Web Engineering, Network Engineering, Software Engineering, System Analysis and Database Technologies. The DIT is a 36-credit diploma program offered on a full-time and part-time basis in the mornings and evenings. Registration is open throughout the academic year for the prospective students with new classes starting in January, April, July and October of every year. High school graduates are eligible to apply for the DIT program.

Kardan University’s Diploma in English Language (DEL) is among the most competitive and successful language programs in Afghanistan. Over 12,000 students, including around 20% women, have so far completed the wide range of English language programs at Kardan University since its inception in 2002. The department works closely with the public and private sector organizations, contributing to the professional and sustainable development of Afghan capacities. Kardan University’s selected faculty members also regularly attend exchange programs in the United States to upgrade their professional skills and knowledge. The University brings together

top-rated instructors, curriculum development specialists and management team to deliver a highly effective learning experience for the students. Over 4,000 students have graduated from the DBA program – representing the country’s talented and globally minded business professionals. Kardan University works with leading national and international organizations to deliver short-term training courses on business administration to Afghan employees.

Upon successful completion of the DBA program, students can choose to pursue an undergraduate degree in business administration or attend related professional development programs at Kardan University. At Kardan University, students and alumni enjoy a wide range of services and initiatives, delivered by the Department of Student Services. The department strives to prepare our students and alumni for academic and professional success.

The Student Services Department assists students on a variety of vital issues, including academic counseling, exam preparation, project development and mentorship opportunities. The department maintains qualified student services representatives and uses an automated tracking system to record, meet and monitor student issues and progress.

The Kardan Career Center is an innovative, employment-focused initiative linking the university students and alumni with the country’s top employers. The Center organizes annual job fairs, training seminars, networking

sessions, and advertises job opportunities to the Kardan University community.

Students are encouraged to register with the Center to take advantage of internship, employment and training opportunities throughout the academic year.

The award-winning debate club at Kardan University draws membership from the University’s talented student debaters. The aim of the program is to foster a culture of debate and to give Afghan youth the opportunity to enhance their public speaking, research, and critical thinking skills, as well as their self-confidence.

1. All students are required to submit their monthly fee on or before 20th of each month, after due date
