Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face.

Dear Members,

The advent of November comes with the feeling of winter. The onset of winter season brings along pleasant evenings and cool mornings. People enjoy eating and spending evenings in places which are warm and cozy. Hot drinks, soups, and Kashmiri Chai become the winter speciality in almost every house. We all enjoy wearing warm attires which is soon to be out of everyones wardrobe. Winter clothes are vibrant, heavy textured and trendyfor young ones who enjoy wearing warm clothes with a flair.

On the other hand, student community is feeling tensed as they need preparation time for the midyear examinations which areto be held in December in most of the private schools.

Though it is onset of cold season, the activities at the club are warming up. All committees have lined up programs to culminate the year. Election activities even though have not triggered yet but with little time left these will certainly bound to pick-up soon after Ashura.

Early Cancer Detection and Paediatric Cardiovascular Treatment - Health Seminar

On Saturday, 5th October 2013 the Karachi Club Health and Fitness committee under its Convener FaheemA. Sakrani organized an highly informative seminar on "Early Cancer Detection and Paediatric Cardiovascular Treatment" in association with Anadolu Medical Centre, Istanbul, Turkey at Karachi Club Lawn.

Dr. Kayihan Engin - M.D. Professor of Radiation Oncology, Dr. Ertan Okmen - Associate Professor of Cardiology,Dr. M. Cemil Uygur - M.D. Professor of Urology,Ms. Asli - Administrator Anadolu Medical Centre gave enlightening lectures on the subjects.

The members appreciated the effort of the Health and Fitness Committee for organizing such an excellent program which was very well attended. On the occasionWahid Balagamwala was the Chief Guest.

KC recognizes its heroes - Swimming

Karachi Club Boys Swimming Team that despite being runners up at the 52nd Sindh Open Swimming Championship has won our admiration for giving a truly magnificent fight. A prize distribution wasarranged to felicitate the team by Convenor, Munaf Mehanti at the Annex Pool, where the team along with their families were invited. All members of the team that was led by Abbas Dhanji were presented with a memento. Cash prizes were also awarded to leading swimmers. Acting President, Hanif Lakhany and Honorary Secretary, Jawed Karim gave away the prizes.

Gujrati Food Festival - Kitchen

Yet again Kitchen Committee under convenorship of Ayaz Siddiq deserves an applaud for organizing another successful event of Gujrati Food Festival. Members from all communities thronged the club lawns to get taste of authentic Gujrati cuisine. Dhokra, Pakora Curry, Kichra, Okhai Dall, Bohra Fried Cutlets

etc. were available which were served fresh with live cooking. Other counters of Khowsey, Papad, Gathia, Dhoraji Akni, Kulfi also saw huge crowds. Record number of estimated 1300 members and their families attended the program. The practice of tasting different cuisine is becoming a regular event in the KC Calendar. Members watch out, next three festivals before end of the year are going to be Chinese, BBQ and Sea Foodso have a great eating experience and lots of fun.

4th KC Team Tennis Tournament - Tennis

The 4th Edition of Team Tennis Tournament was organized at the club courts where 6 equally balanced teams were drawn in 2 different groups consisting of 6 players each. Fiercely contested league matches were played between the respective teams where two top teams of each group emerged to proceed to semi finals. The finals were contested between Team Yellow comprising Asad Bhagat (C), Humayun, Imran Abu Bakar, Tariq Aziz, Zakaria, and Altaf Aziz and Team Blue comprising Altaf Hussain (C), Mansoor, Uzair Salim,

Nabil Ilyas and Adnan Amin. It was a befitting finish to the tournament as two of the matches went right down to the wire and were decided in tiebreaker, keeping the spectators and respective team members on the edge of their seats. Final scores were Team Yellow beat Team Blue by 2-1.

Two other events for the youngsters were also held where in U-12 Singles final Mustafa Admani beat Ibrahim Khan and in U-16 Singles final Saad beat Abdul Rehman. The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Managing Committee Members of the club along with Convenor Sports A, Ismail Shariff.

17th KC Open Snooker Challenge 2013

Karachi Club boasts of the quality of Snooker played at its tables. 17th edition of KC Open Snooker Challenge 2013 also saw high standard of Snooker displayed by the participants, under the able convenorship of Saifuddin H. Madraswala. The players thoroughly enjoyed every game played in the recently inaugurated state of the art Snooker Room. Many top national ranking players participated in the event and a record prize money was awarded to the winners. The event was conducted in two phases. The first phase was

played from 16th to 28th September, with Asad Hussain Kamani as the winner while Ali Aqueel Suria was the Runners Up. In the second phase which was played from 29th Sept to 5th Oct, Pakistan Ranking player Imran Shahzad was the winner with Vishan Gir as the Runners up. The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Honorary Secretary of the club, Jawed H. Karim. All praise for the committee that conducted the affairs of the tournament including Umair Idrees, Asad Ali Rehmani, Farhan Idrees and Tournament Director, Majeed Amir Bux deserves special appreciation for his untiring efforts

KC Open Pairs Event - Bridge

The monthly KC Open Pairs Event was organized at Karachi Club Annexe on 8th October under convenorship of Saifuddin Madraswala and Bridge Secretary, Farooq Lakhani.

Winning pairs in North-South were Tabraiz Javaid & Tahir Saya, while Ahsan Zahir Rizvi & Anwar Gheewala were Runners up. In East-West, Hussain Jaffar & Ashraf Kothari were winners, while Gulzar Bilal & Shakeel Chandna were Runners up.

Muhammad Hanif Jakhura, member of our club and CEO, Central Depository Company of Pakistan Limited has been elected as the Chairman of Executive Committee of Asia Pacific Central Securities Depositories Group ( ACG ) for a period of 3 years at the

ACG 17th Annual General Meeting held at Dhaka last month.

21st Palmolive Sindh WomenSwimming Championship 2013

Our girl swimmers like boys were not to be left behind. KC Girls Team stood 3rd at 21st Palmolive Sindh Wo m e n Sw i m m i n g C h a m p i o n s h i p 2 0 1 3 ,popularly known as Sindh Open, held on 2nd and 3rd Nov. Our young team gave an excellent display of

competitive swimming which was acknowledged by all. Captain of the team, Laiba Bilwani was awarded Group Champion. Credit for sending a competitive team goes to Convenor, Munaf Mahenti and his dedicated team of officials including FaizaImran - Manager; Shazia Shoaib - Assistant Manager; Erum Azneem Billwani - Coach and Jasmine Mehmood Shariff - Assistant Coach.
