THE LAND OF HOZ--First baseman Eric Hosmer extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a fifth inning single last night, matching his career best streak originally established in 2014...it’s the longest active streak in the Majors, four games better than Yasmany Tomas of Arizona...Hoz has batted .333 (21-for-63) during this current streak, including an OPS of .887...he’s had only three hitless games thus far in ‘16, occurring on consecutive dates on April 5-9, but walked in each of those contests...he has also reached base a career-best 28 consecutive games dating back to September 27 of last year, the longest active streak in the American League and longest by a Royal since Billy Butler reached in 32 in a row in 2013. MOOSE PLAYING LONG BALL--Third baseman Mike Moustakas opened the scoring last night with his seventh home run of the year, matching Jose Guillen from 2010 for the seventh best month of April with the long ball...for the record, Jermaine Dye holds the team mark with 11 in April of 2000...Moustakas, who set a career high with 22 blasts last year, didn’t record his seventh home run until June 24 in the 69th game of the year. EXTENDED ROAD WORK UNDERWAY--The Royals are off to an 0-2 start on this extended stretch of road games, a span that has Kansas City playing 13 of 16 games away from Kauffman Stadium...the Royals will head to Seattle from here with an off day tomorrow before facing the Mariners in a three-game set that commences on Friday night...the Royals will return home for just a three-game series against the A.L. East leading Washington Nationals that runs from next Monday to Wednesday, then hit the road again for another weeklong journey through Cleveland (3) and New York (4)...once this 13 of 16 stretch ends, KC will host 13 of its next 19 contests at “The K.” MARINERS NEXT--This road trip will conclude with a three-game stop in the Emerald City, as the Royals and Mariners will play after each club takes tomorrow off...Kansas City was 4-2 vs. the M’s last year, going 2-1 in each venue...the Royals hold a 221-205 advantage in the all-time series, but trail in Seattle by a 100-109 margin, including a 26-40 mark since the 1999 move to Safeco Field...a reminder that Saturday’s game has been changed to a 7:10 p.m. (local) start due to traffic issues expected with the Seattle Sounders also playing at home across the street earlier in the afternoon...the Royals/Mariners matchup will still be heard on 610 Sports and the Royals Radio Network and shown on FOX Sports Kansas City, with first pitch now slated for 9:10 (Kansas City time). This & ThatRoyals Notes - Kansas City Royals @ Los Angeles Angels - Wednesday, April 27, 2016

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOMORROW--Since there will be no game or game notes tomorrow in Seattle, we’d like to take this opportunity to wish Happy Birthday to newcomer Dillon Gee, who will turn the big 3-0 while the club is in the air heading for the great northwest tonight...he will celebrate his 30th birthday tomorrow with such luminaires as actress Penelope Cruz (42), talk show host Jay Leno (66), Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (24), fellow baseballer David Freese (33) and Hall of Fame shortstop Barry Larkin (52).

MUST SEE TV--As the first month of the 2016 season nears an end the Royals and FSKC have picked up where they left off in 2015 as the highest ranking team in Major League Baseball in local-market television with a 13.8 household rating (124,000 households) in the Kansas City market, according to Nielsen Research...that is a 15% increase over the same number of telecasts (16) a year ago, when Royals’ games were averaging 12.1 en route to a Major League best 12.3 at season’s end, which was the highest local-market figure since Seattle in 2002...last Friday’s game vs. Baltimore earned the second-best rating ever for a Royals’ game on FSKC, a 17.2., beating Kansas City’s eight over-the-air stations combined in prime time (16.7)...in fact, of the 16 games carried by FSKC to this point, 15 were the highest-rated program that day in KC...Royals’ telecasts are pulling a 14.4 household rating in prime-time (126,000 homes), easily outdistancing all other Kansas City stations with KCTV (Channel 5) next in line with a 5.8 (58,000 homes)

ROAD WORK--Last night’s loss dropped the Royals to 4-5 away from home to open 2016...dating back to the start of 2013, Kansas City still leads the American League in road wins with 137, trailing only the Dodgers for the big league top spot as L.A. has landed 139 victories away from home...KC’s .544 winning pct. since the start of ‘13 tops the big leagues, ahead of L.A.’s .543 mark...the Royals finished second in the A.L. last year with 44 wins away from Kauffman Stadium...in 2015, Kansas City’s 3.79 ERA away from “The K” was second in the league to Cleveland’s 3.39 mark, while the Royals batted .259 on the road, good for a third place tie with Tampa Bay...as for October, KC went 1-1 in Houston during the ALDS, 1-2 in Toronto and then 2-1 at Citi Field to closeout the World Series crown.

DAVIS AMONG CLOSER ELITE--Wade Davis hasn’t worked since recording a rescue last Friday night at home against the Orioles, his seventh in as many tries which are good for a tie for second in the A.L. with former teammate Ryan Madson (Oakland) behind David Robertson’s eight (Chicago)...Davis, who became the full-time closer after Greg Holland went down with an elbow injury in the second half of 2015, has made good on 24 of his last 25 regular season save situations for a 96.0% success which tops the Majors in that span, just ahead of the Dodgers’ Kenley Jansen (95.7%) ...Davis was also 4-for-4 in last October’s run to the title, tossing 10.2 scoreless innings over the three series.

NATIONALS THE ONLY VISITOR FOR NEXT STAY--The Royals will return to Interleague play for their very abbreviated homestand that begins Monday and ends Wednesday afternoon when the Washington Nationals invade Kauffman Stadium...the series will feature 7:15 starts on Monday and Tuesday, then a 1:15 finale that will also be FOX 4’s “School Day at The K”...Kansas City is 3-9 all-time vs. the Montreal/Washington franchise, including a 2-4 mark in Kauffman Stadium...these clubs last met in 2013, when the Royals dropped two of three at home to the Nats...Kansas City opened the 2016 season against the National League, splitting a pair of games at home against the New York Mets, last year’s World Series opponent...dating back to the start of the 2014 season, the Royals have the best overall Interleague record in the Majors at 29-13, which are three more wins than the Detroit Tigers, who stand in second in that span.

TOUGH AT HOME--The Royals have gone 8-3 through a pair of stays in Kauffman Stadium to open 2016...dating back to last October, Kansas City has won 15 of its last 18 games contested in “The K”...the Royals are coming off a 51-30 home mark last season, the third best home win total in the American League...last year’s total matched the 1975 Royals for fifth most at home in team history...dating back to the start of the 2013 season, Kansas City has the second most home wins in the American League with 145, trailing only the Orioles (150).

RECORD SETTING SKIPPER--The winningest manager in franchise history, Ned Yost is in his sixth full season with the club, taking the reins on May 13, 2010...he is currently three games over .500 for the Kansas City portion of his managerial career at 480-476, easily outdistancing Whitey Herzog’s previous team mark of 410 wins (1975-79)...his postseason managerial mark of 22-9 is good for a .710 winning pct., which ranks eighth all-time and is atop the list of managers with at least 20 postseason tilts under their belt...Yost is the 16th full-time manager in franchise history and is sixth among active managers is games (1,916) and sixth in wins (937)...his 1,916 games skippered rank 62nd all-time and are just two shy of Bill Virdon, who managed the Pirates, Yankees, Astros and Expos and sits in the 61st slot...this is his second stint as a big league manager after nearly six full campaigns at the helm for the Milwaukee Brewers (2003-2008)...he compiled a 457-502 record with the Brew Crew including a 166-146 mark in his last two seasons...Yost, a catcher during his playing days, began his coaching career in the Atlanta organization, including 12 straight seasons on Bobby Cox’s big league staff (1991-2002).

THE DEFENDING CHAMPS--Kansas City opened 2016 as the two-time defending American League Champions, a franchise first, defeating the Mets to win the World Series crown last year after going to a Game #7 in the 2014 Fall Classic before succumbing to the San Francisco Giants...Kansas City’s A.L. title in 2015 was the fourth in franchise history, joining the 1980, ‘85 and 2014...the Royals are coming off a 95-67 regular season and their first American League Central championship, winning the division by 12 games...the last division title won by Kansas City was the 1985 A.L. West, when the club parlayed that triumph into its first World Series title...the 95 wins last year were the most by a KC squad since the 1980 Royals went 97-65...dating back to the start of the 2013 season, Kansas City has a 282-224 record for a .558 winning pct., the best mark in the American League, fourth best in the Majors (St. Louis, Pittsburgh and L.A.)...KC has nine more total wins in that span than the second best A.L. club Baltimore (273).

THE COMEBACK KIDS--In winning 11 games during the 2015 postseason, the Royals had to come from behind in eight of those victories, including an unprecedented seven comebacks from a multiple-run deficit...KC rallied from a one-run deficit in Game #2 of the World Series against the Mets, while coming back from two runs behind on three other occasions during the Fall Classic, capped by the two-run rally in the top of the ninth inning of the deciding Game #5, sending the game to extra innings with the Royals plating five runs in the 12th to seal the title...Kansas City also rallied from a two-run deficit in the deciding game of the ALDS vs. the Astros to advance to the League Championship Series vs. Toronto...the Royals came from three runs back in Game #2 of both the ALDS vs. Houston and the ALCS vs. the Blue Jays...the biggest comeback of the fall matched the same scenario of the 2014 Wild Card game vs. the A’s, as KC was down by four runs to Houston with six outs to go in game #4 at Minute Maid Park, but plated five in the top of the eighth and two more in the ninth to get to a deciding Game #5 in Kauffman Stadium.
