Sami Laiho Antti Laukkanen Viljami Räisänen RESEARCH Our starting point in the design process was to decrease working phases and make logistics more efficient. Listing down the most common problems in warehouse working we noticed one relevant problem, which could be solved in really simple way. The most used tool in warehouses or factories are usually small size pallet jacks and bigger counter balanced trucks, which are used in different types of tasks. We came up with an idea to combine these two types of tools as one, to make working more efficient and one tool to be used in several different situations. USER Especially mid-size companies might have a lack of space in their working facilities. This is why it would be better to have this kind of Hybrid forklift truck instead of two different. Safety and healthy aspects are important for both employer and employee. With better working ergonomics and usability we managed to fulfill these values in our final design. DESIGN Toyota KAMU concept is a modular hybrid forklift truck. It combines pallet jack and ordinary forklift truck in a way forklift truck industry has never seen before. KAMU can be used alone in situations that usually require two separate tools. It is designed in terms of better usability and ergonomics. As a result we achieved a design that is based on the functionality of the forklift truck. Design moods are taken from hardworking ants, from which the strong appearance of the forklift truck is taken. Our starting point in the design process was to decrease working phases and make logistics more efficient. Listing down the most common problems in warehouse working we noticed one relevant problem, which could be solved in really simple way. We came up with an idea to combine these two types of tools as one, to make working more efficient and one tool to be used in several different situations.

Especially mid-size companies might have a lack of space in their working facilities. This is why it would be better to have this kind of Hybrid forklift truck instead of two different. Safety and healthy aspects are important for both employer and employee. With better working ergonomics and usability we managed to fulfill these values in our final design.
DESIGN
Toyota KAMU concept is a modular hybrid forklift truck.
Fiskars scissors are known from functional and Scandinavian design language, which we wanted to adapt to our concept. Their ergonomics are also known as a top of the class and this inspired us in the interior design. Robots and automation are getting more common all the time so we wanted to emphasize interaction between humans and robots.

CONTROLS
Seat and controls can be customized for each user.
The shape of the roof redirects falling objects protecting the driver.
Working position is half-standing so it is a lot healthier for the user.
Controls are located inz handrests. Includ-ing lifting and steering Laserlights can be directed
with high precision and they can be designed in more compact shapes.
HUD-display replaces normal screen as it makes it possible to get information while working in more safe way.
To make it safe to work, user needs to press pedal all the time to keep functions on.
Low floor allows quick entry and exit.
REINFORCED MATERIALRollbars are manufactured from reinforced steel, making it possible to have new kind of shape.
STEPLight indicates where to step.
HANDLEGrab here when you get in.

EASES WORKING IN NARROW ENVIROMENTS
TELESCOPIC FORKS Allows the bot to operate in even tighter environments.
HOW TO CONTROL THE BOT FROM HUD-DISPLAY
1. Default view on the display
2. Choose the palette to pick and click “GO”
3. You are also able to see where the Bot is working. It sends video from its action camera. When the Bot is ready, click “HOME” button.
4. When the Bot is docked, you are able to continue working. .

SCENARIO 1Forklift lifts the bot to pick up a pallet from the container.
The bot returns automatically back to the dock with the pallet.
Toyota KAMU makes working more efficient and saves time.
When the bot is docked driver takes the control and uses forklift truck in regular way.
