CHAPTER X VASCULAR CAMBIUM Vascular cambium is the meristem that produces secondary vascular tissue. Based from its position on the plant body, known as the vascular cambium lateral meristem. On ferns and a large number of monocot plants there is no vascular cambium. On dicotyl wet, reduced vascular cambium activity or invisible. CHAPTER XVASCULAR CAMBIUM

Vascular cambium is the meristem that produces secondary vascular tissue. Based

from its position on the plant body, known as the vascular cambium lateral meristem.

On ferns and a large number of monocot plants there is no vascular cambium. On

dicotyl wet, reduced vascular cambium activity or invisible.

Structure of vascular cambium

Cell of vascular cambium has a large vacuole, and consists of two kinds of cells,

namely beginner novice and novice fusiform empelur fingers.

Fusiform Beginner :

- Shaped prism in the middle and tapered at both ends. Tapered end of the cell

seem tangential to the cross section and the radial incision looked round.

- Form a system of vertical or axial vascular cambium area

- All system comes straight from beginner fusiform

Pith Radius Beginners :

- Slightly elongated shape, but almost isodiametris

- Formed a radial system. So, all systems derived from beginner flat fingers

empelur.

- There is a series of one, as in Coniferae and there are many or multiseriat

glow.

Vascular cambium beginners produce two cells divide tangentially. One of the young

cells will differentiate into xylem cells inward, while the other of cells will divide

again to form a derivative in the direction of phloem. However, the amount of

derivative formed in the direction of xylem is much greater than in the direction of

phloem, which causes the layer of secondary wood (secondary xylem) is much

thicker than the phloem.

So, the formation of xylem and phloem do not need to occur alternately.

If the activity of vascular cambium is very large, as occurs during the rainy season,

the addition of cells takes place so fast that the relatively older cells are still

meristematic when there is a new addition. So there was a wider area of cambium is

composed of less differentiated cells.
