Kalori Term 1 - Week 8 18 March 2020 Respect, Honesty, Responsibility – RHR – That’s Who We Are Meryula St Narromine NSW 2821 P: 02 68894566 F: 02 68894451 E: [email protected]Denise Toohey – Principal P&C 2020 I would like to congratulate and welcome our new school P&C Team for 2020: President Crystal Paine, Vice-President Mel McCutcheon, Secretary Kelly Robertson, Treasurer/Canteen Treasurer Kristel Chapman, Canteen Liaison Sophia Heckendorf and PBL Liaison Fiona Gibbs. With the installation of our new committee we also farewell Louise Woods who has been a long time member and Secretary of the P&C. Lou has done an amazing job over the years and we thank her for dedication and involvement with our P&C and its many activities. While the P&C executive has been set for the year there are still plenty of opportunities to be involved with our P&C through volunteering in canteen, Mother’s and Father’s Day stalls, 3-6 Social canteen, athletics carnival canteen, and our bi-annual fete. For more information on the P&C call our office on 6889 4566. COVID-19 UPDATE There is understandable concern in both schools and the wider community about the threat posed by Covid -19. It is important we work together to take steps to minimise the spread of the virus to protect our community. We are providing updates via our Facebook page and app where necessary to keep our community abreast of changes to the situation. The Secretary of the NSW Department of Education Mark Scott has provided schools with guidelines for all staff and students. The key points he outlines are: Stay home if you or your children are sick. Support good hygiene in schools with frequent handwashing and hand sanitising. Report suspected and confirmed cases of COVID-19. Practise social distancing. The department has been planning and operating in accordance with its pandemic plan to support the safety and wellbeing of staff and students. With regard to concern about whether schools should remain open the Department of Education has indicated we are following advice from the leading health experts in the country. The decision about when and if to close schools is a decision that will be made based on the best health advice.

Crazy Socks On
Thanks to our school community
for supporting the first of our
Year 6 fundraisers this year –
Crazy Sock Day. Students and
staff put on their craziest socks to
help our Year 6 students raise
funds towards their graduation.
There were odd socks, layering,
colours, pictures and textures to
add to the festivities. - Stage 3

Week 8- Vocabulary
Find as many words as you can by using the letters from the word ‘knowledge’.
Mathematics Matters with 56T 5/6T have just completed a unit called 'If I were a Martian' in Mathematics. This unit explored place value in larger
numbers, equivalent fractions, expanded notation and fractions and decimals. Students were able to apply their
knowledge to a Math investigation where they took a look at the solar system. Students investigated how
Mathematics fits into the real
world, looking at the distances
between the sun and the planets,
the impact of gravity on the planets
and how this is all measured using
Mathematics. - Amanda Turnbull

PBL News What an exciting time we have been
experiencing at Narromine Public
School with so many students achieving
some amazing milestones with their
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL).
Congratulations to all the students who
participated in the 100 point reward
days and have been chosen in the PBL
spinner at assembly for demonstrating RHR.
Students have been learning how to demonstrate responsibility
this week through being encouraged to deal with their emotions
in appropriate ways including keeping hands and feet to self,
speaking with appropriate language, remaining calm using their
self-management techniques and refraining from making unsafe
choices. Students have also been learning to demonstrate
responsibility by doing their best. Doing their best means
students are trying their best at completing all learning tasks, they
show sportsmanship, they seek to challenge themselves, they
make positive efforts in every area of school life, they
demonstrate initiative and they are organised by having learning tools ready.
Well done to all the students who have been sighted applying responsibility by doing their best and dealing with
emotions while at school. Teachers have been on the lookout and been handing out SuperVals to these students.

Sport
On Friday 13 March, 17 students represented Narromine Public School and the
Gobondery/NARRAF district at the Western School Sports Association Swimming

a fantastic day with several students achieving personal best times. Congratulations

Footy fever Our Rugby 7's team have braved the
very wet weather to take part in the
Rugby Junior Ella 7's. They played
very well despite the cold, winning
two games, losing one and making
their way to the semi-final. Thanks to
the parents and carers who also
braved the weather to support the
team. Kevin Geyer - Rugby
Coordinator
