Mother Earth Motor Lodge features artwork of JOHN GROESSER, which
is available for purchase and on display in the Ram Neuse Room
adjacent to the lobby of Mother Earth Motor Lodge. Other works of
John’s are in the permanent collection of Mother Earth Motor Lodge
in the lobby, guest rooms and suites. John’s work is also referenced
on page 2. Visitors are warmly welcomed with nostalgic retro and
redesigned accommodations. Along with lodging, the center courtyard features a
three-ring pool, shuffle board and 9-hole mini golf for outside entertainment. Mother
Earth Motor Lodge is registered as a National Historic Building by the United States

The 38th Annual CCA National Competitive Exhibition will be on display February 21 through April 6,
representing artists from all over the United States, 18 years and older. All accepted works will be
displayed in the First Floor Main Gallery (HAMPTON GALLERY and THE KENNETH & KRISTI
BLIZZARD GALLERY) and all unaccepted works will be displayed in the Second Floor Galleries
(MINGES GALLERY & RAYNER GALLERY). Four (4) Cash Place Awards and five (5) Non-cash
Merit Awards will be presented. Awards will be posted on our website www.kinst oncca.c om Friday,
February 22, 2019.
BARRUS GALLERY — CASWELL DEVELOPMENTAL CENTER ARTISTS — In March
we will be celebrating Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month by featuring artwork created by
Caswell Center residents. Artwork will be on display in the Barrus Gallery of the Arts Center. The
Caswell Developmental Center provides services to people with mental and physical disabilities and
has been in operation for more than 100 years as the State’s oldest residential facility for disabled
citizens. We thank the Center’s participation and look forward to showing these special works of art.

CHILDREN’S GALLERY — ST. MARY’S NURSERY SCHOOL — Artwork will
occurs every month and the featured artist is randomly drawn from the pool of interested artists. Currently,
this is restricted to 2-D visual art, which needs to be suitable for display with approximately a 10-piece
body of work. There are weight restrictions in place as displays are on tracks. Visit our website

The next Illusions, Open Mic Night,
will be March 30, an Anniversary
Show. Join us for an evening filled
with poetry, singing and some
jazz. All are invited to attend this
laid back show held at the Arts
Center. Doors open at 8:00 p.m.
and the show runs from 8:30 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. The
show is $10 and there is a fee of $8 for Open Mic talent.

Kinston Jazz TAPS group (Traditional Arts
Program for Students) — Taps meets Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. at the Arts
Center. TAPS is the only after-school Jazz mentorship
program in North Carolina and is for middle school,
high school and early college students. Adults are

MARK YOUR CALENDARS — The Monitors will perform at the Arts Center on Saturday,
February 16, 2019. 7:30 p.m. Their popular concert features music from many genres, including
funk, jazz, rhythm and blues and soul. Tickets are $25 per person for riser seating, or $250 for a

-2517. This concert is the first in a series of concerts scheduled to be presented in the Spring in the Parks series of Kinston. Bill Myers is the group's leader and last original member still with the
group - he plays piano, saxophone, flute and vibes, in addition to directing, arranging and
composing music. Other band members include Sam "The Man" Latham on drums, Gerald
"Bishop" Hunter on guitar, Jerome Morgan on bass, Clark Mills, Jr. on piano, Robert "Dick" Knight
on trumpet, Clark Mills, Jr. and Brian Pitt on tenor saxophone, Donald "King Tuck" Tuckson on alto
saxophone, Willie Dupree on baritone and Mollie Hunter on vocals.

The Arts Center extends our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Craig Strickland,
who passed away in December. Craig was one of the original members of K.A.R.M.A. (Kinston

The Arts Center is pleased to host art party classes with Raney Rogers, owner of the Acorn Gallery in West
Jefferson, North Carolina. Raney will be offering low key and informative two-hour classes with set subject
matter each month. No experience is required. Raney presents work in pastel, watercolor, oil and acrylic
and uses her teaching ability to help participants create abstract and representational art pieces.
Materials will be provided. Participants are allowed to bring wine and treats to share if desired.
