The scientific name for a kakapo is strigopshabroptilus. This means owl-

faced soft feather . They have also been called owl parrots because they have an owl like face . Among

the things that make them parrots

are their hooked beaks and two toes forward and two toes back. The Maori name for Kakapo means night parrots.
