Kansas State University at Salina is

proud to sponsor an 18 and under

softball program (the TechnoCats)

for those individuals wanting to play

competitive softball over the sum-

mer months of June and July and

possibly play at the collegiate level.

The program encompasses leader-

ship, academics, and athletics. Team

members are selected by a tryout

process each fall. Each athlete must

make a two month commitment in

June and July to participate in the

program. All players are provided

campus housing, meals, tournament

entry fees, transportation, hotels,

equipment, and uniforms. While on

campus, players take college classes

for college credit at their expense

during the two month period.

The goal of the Spirit Cats dance team is to serve as ambassadors for K-State at Salina. They will promote the campus and the surrounding communities, in addition to supporting the other clubs teams. They will also attract a new demographic of students that haven’t been included on this campus. The team is comprised of dedicated and hardworking individuals who have fun and strive to continually better themselves.

The Spirit Cats don’t have a specifi c event to dance at, as many dance teams do. However, this doesn’t

mean that they don’t have a purpose, it just means that they aren’t tied down! They have danced at many K-State at Salina activities and community events and plan to eventually perform at K-State athletic events.

The team started their fi rst ever season full force. Within the fi rst two weeks they had four different performances. The inaugural performance was during the orientation events at the Student Life Center. They also hosted their own event; the Spirit Cats held the fi rst annual Ladies Poker Run and scavenger

hunt. It helped them raise money, as well as, become more familiar with the female crowd on campus.

Since then, the team has remained busy. This semester they will have a total of 16 performances. They have danced at your typical settings such as two different half time shows of the St. John’s Military School football games. They also have appeared in many community events such as the Girl Scouts “Let’s get Movin’ ” activity where they taught a dance to promote physical activity. In support of raising money for cancer, the Spirit Cats performed at “Dancers for Pediatric Cancer” hosted by Salina Dance Association, and “Heeling Cancer” hosted by Long McArthur. And the list goes on and on.

At this time, future performances only consist of basketball games and tournaments, but new events get added all the time. The squad practices every Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:30. They also schedule additional practices when important events arise, or if they have multiple events that require multiple dances.

The Spirit Cats currently have fi ve positions open to fi ll their team. All members of the Spirit Cats team will earn a $1,000 scholarship, $500 per semester. If you would like to join the team, let them know! For more information visit www.salina.k-state.edu/spiritcats or contact Teresa Hartman at 785-826-2964 or [email protected]. Or you can contact the team captain, Madison Miles, at [email protected].

2010-2011 ROSTER

Kansas State at Salina is proud to offer female students an opportunity to have a fastpitch softball club team who will compete with other university club teams and colleges around the area. This is the fi rst year for club sotball on the K-State at Salina campus.

The club softball team will do numerous fundraisers throught the course of the school year. Club members are expected to pay membership dues and help fundraise for uniforms, travel expenses, equipment and more.

The softball club will play and practice on Thaemert Softball Field. Thaemert Field is located on the north end of campus and is home to intramural sports. It is also equipped with concessions stands and restrooms.
