K-LOK® Series 36 – ASME 150
K-LOK® Series 37 – ASME 300
Features and Benefits• K-LOK® polymer and elastomer seatsprovide bi-directional, drop-tightclosure in vacuum as well as at fullrated differential pressure. Its uniquedesign does not rely on pressure toassist sealing therefore seals at highand low pressures, as well as dirtyservices. A variety of materials allowsoptimum seat life in all applications.
• Blow-out resistant shaft is standard on all valves for increased safety.
• Unique packing design allows for use in pressure as well as vacuumwithout modification or specialassembly.
• Disc taper pins are tangentiallypositioned half in disc and half in stem, placing them in compressionrather than shear, which eliminatespotential for failure.
• Rocker-shaped gland bridgecompensates for uneven adjustment of gland nuts reducing packing leaks.
• Integrally cast disc position stopperfectly locates the disc in seat, achieving maximum seat and seal life.
• Extended neck allows for two inches of pipeline insulation.
• Integrally cast mounting pad providesdirect mounting of actuators eliminatingthe need for costly brackets andcouplings.
• Flattened body bore at stem journalports positions stem bearings near disc, providing maximum stem support.
General Applications• Modulating service• Airport refueling• Hydrocarbon processing• Chemical/petrochemical processing• Purified gas• Steam and vacuum services• Power and utilities • Refrigeration• HVAC
Double Offset Disc/stemK-LOK®’s unique two-piece stem anddouble-offset disc/stem design allows forhigh cycling and creates a lower discprofile with increased capacity and arange of 33:1.
In addition to increasing the flow areaacross the disc, this design minimizeswear points between seat and disc.
The first offset is achieved by locatingthe stems downstream of the center-lineof the seat. This allows for a totallyunobstructed 360° sealing surface.
The second offset locates the stems off-center of the vertical axis of the seat.
The combination of these two offsetscreates a camming effect as the discswings into and out of the seat. The disclifts quickly out of the seat in the first fewdegrees of travel and does not contactthe seat again until it is nearly closed. There are no wear points between theseat and disc, while operating torquesare reduced and seat life is extended.

Adjustable Stem Packaging(Polymer Seated Valves)The K-LOK®’s unique stem packing iscomposed of 3 rings of braided Teflon®rope between one Teflon® V-ring at thetop and bottom. The packing operateson an interference fit with the body andtherefore will seal in pressure andvacuum. Many other manufacturers’designs will require special packing forvacuum services.
This packing is easily field adjustablewithout the need to remove actuationdue to its unique inverted packingadjustment bolts. Another importantfeature is the use of a rocker shapedpacking gland bridge that compensatesfor uneven tightening of the packinggland bolts eliminating packing leaksdue to uneven packing compression.
Blow-out Resistant Shaft (BOR)The Keystone K-LOK® high performancebutterfly valve contains a blow-outresistant shaft as a standard. This isachieved by machining a groove in theshaft that allows a snap ring to lock intothe stem groove. The packing glandfollower is provided with an undercut on its lower surface which encapsulatesthe locked in snap ring. This designprovides positive retention of the shaft inthe unlikely event of a shaft breakage.

Two-piece Stem vs. One-piece StemK-LOK®’s disc geometry maximizes flowcapacity by increasing the available flow area through the valve. This increase indisc efficiency results in a higher valve Cv.

Seat DesignThe K-LOK® seat is a true interferenceseat design and unlike most othermanufactures does not rely on linepressure to assist in sealing. All seats sealdrop-tight bi-directionally at low and highpressure as well as vacuum. Given theinterference seat design the K-LOK® willalso operate in dirty services where mostpressure assist valves fail.
Polymer (PTFE, RTFE and UHMWPE)seats incorporate a unique designconsisting of a stainless steel braidedwire winding, enclosed in a U-shapeenvelope to provide seating energy and
memory. This wire winding allows axialflexibility in both directions of flow. Thewinding also allows radial flexibility whenthe disc is not fully closed, reducingseat/disc interference, seat wear andstem torque. When the disc closes, itprovides circumferential stiffness andassures the required disc/seat seals tightin both vacuum and pressure.
Elastomer seats are molded around astack of V-shaped steel rings that providethe same stability, support and flexure asthe wire windings in polymer seats.
Seat ReplacementAll seats for the Keystone K-LOK® areeasily field replaceable. Simply removeseat retainer ring, rotate disc to fullyclosed position and replace seatassembly and gasket. Dis-assembly ofthe disc and shaft is not required. Seatretaining ring gaskets are not used withelastomer seats.

Vacuum RatingThe combination of interference fit seats and bi-directional packing makes the K-LOK®
especially well suited for vacuum service.
Standard K-LOK® high performance valves are rated to an absolute pressure of 4 x 10-5inch Hg. Higher vacuum applications are available.
Notes:1. Surrounding air temperature is assumed to
be 70°F. For every degree over 100°F of thesurrounding air, deduct 2 degrees from themaximum temperature ranges shown underthe Pipeline Fluid Temperature Column. (Example: 125°F external temperaturereduces maximum temperature values underthe Pipeline Fluid Temperature Column to 325,410, 510, 600, etc.)
2. Valves may be insulated or uninsulated.
3. Brackets may be open rectangular tubes orthe standard closed Keystone tubular stemextensions.
4. All actuators have a maximum servicetemperature (outside atmosphere). Thesetemperature limitations apply regardless of K-LOK® extension lengths.

Seating and Un-seating TorqueSeating and un-seating torques are afunction of the size of the valve and the shutoff pressure of the system.
Specific torque ratings can be found in the Seating/Un-seating chart at theintersection of the “size” row and the“shutoff pressure” column.
Torques listed are for PTFE and RTFEseated valves. For different seat materials, specific multipliers are to be used as stated.
All torques listed are for normal serviceconditions (i.e. operating frequency is a minimum of once per month; disccorrosion is expected to be mild or minor, the media is a clean gas, liquid or steam, and is non-abrasive) and chemical effectsupon the seat are minor.
Notes:1. Torques are applicable only to PTFE and RTFE
seats in noncorrosive or non-abrasive servicessuch as water.
2. For other seat materials, select the torqueapplicable for the maximum differential pressureand multiply by the following factor:
EPDM/NBR/Fluoroelastomer (FKM): x 1.4UHMWPE (Clean Service): x 1.3
3. For corrosive, abrasive or other services thanwater, multiply by the following factor:
High solids slurry: x 1.5Dry gas: x 2.0Dry powders: x 2.7Liquids other than water: x 1.2Lubricating fluids: x 0.8
For services that combine unfriendly conditionssuch as extreme temperatures and high solids,or corrosive with high temperatures, contactyour sales representative.
