Brethren of Liberty Lodge # 48 A.F. & A.M.,

I would like to thank all of you in advance for the hard work and dedication you

have given in the past years and earnestly ask for your continued support during

the upcoming year. Without you the Worshipful Master could never begin to

accomplish the most important task of keeping our lodge thriving with new

candidates and new projects. Everyone’s participation is greatly appreciated

whether it is taking care of our “Home”, teaching new masons their work, helping

with fund raisers or just being in attendance at our meetings. It takes each and

every one of us to maintain the “Temple”. I realize every job is not always going to

be noticed, but we as masons do not always work for recognition. Many times we

just do the things we do because we love our fraternity and more especially our

brother masons.

I am looking forward to my term as Worshipful Master. I am humbled by the

support and confidence the Brethren have showed me. I plan to continue to strive

for the Vanguard Award as previous Worshipful Masters and most recently Past

Master Kemp Newman have done. I appreciate their efforts on paving the way

and keeping our lodge recognized as a superior lodge and the Premier Small Lodge

in Texas.

We will also continue our many services to the community through awards,

scholarships, and numerous other community projects. I plan to do this, with the

support of the Brethren, by continuing the Smoke Turkey fundraiser and growing

our Sporting Clays Benefit. I believe these activities are critical in supporting our

community, growth of the lodge through notoriety and the upkeep of our lodge.

In conclusion, I humbly solicit the help, support and ideas from all the members of

Liberty Lodge. Without the “Mortar” made of hard work and dedication the

building blocks of our fraternity would surely crumble.

Sincerely & Fraternally,

Justin Hamilton

Worshipful Master 2012-2013

This committee is a joint committee, required by our By-Laws to review the books and records

of the Treasurer and Secretary and report to the Lodge (Article VI., Section 3) as well as handle

any other financial matter (s) which may be referred to them.

The duties of the committee are:

1. Review and audit the financial books and records to the

and expenditures for the past year. The committee should

have the budget prepared for presentation to the Lodge by

the last meeting in September, at which time they may

make any appropriate recommendations.

3. The committee will work throughout the year in all

financial matters concerning the Lodge.

This committee performs a very sad, but a very necessary duty. They are called upon to

perform Masonic Graveside Services for our deceased Brethren. The committee shall:

1. Compile a list of Brethren who might be available to attend Masonic funerals.

2. Appoint Brethren who have the time and interest to serve as a telephone committee to

increase attendance at funerals. The Telephone Committee will assist here.

3. Remember, this committee puts the Lodge on display before the public at a very solemn

and stressful time and our reputation as a Fraternity and a Lodge depends on our conduct

at these funerals. Those Brethren attending funerals should be thoroughly instructed

about the conduct of Masonic funerals and their part in them.

This committee is very important because it is responsible for all the degree work. The

results of the work of this committee cannot be determined on the night of the degree; it is

after the degree that we can see the results of the committee's labors. This committee has no

chairman and will work closely with the Ritual Instruction Committee to ensure that the

Ritual is learned and presented in the manner it deserves. Each member of the committee,

however, does have a specific duty and they are as follows:

1. The Junior Warden, shall be responsible for the Entered Apprentice degree. He shall

secure a team and make sure a competent Brother is in attendance to deliver the lecture.

Except when otherwise directed by the Worshipful Master, he shall close the Entered

Apprentice Lodge.

2. The Senior Warden shall be responsible for the Fellow craft degree and the same

procedure followed as that above.

3. The Worshipful Master shall be responsible for the Master Mason degree and the same

procedure followed as that above.

4. The Senior Deacon shall be responsible for the proper preparation of each candidate. He

should take nothing for granted, and in his absence he should appoint a Brother to

this duty for him. No candidate should be stopped during the ceremony for adjustments

in his preparation. THE MASTER OF CRERMONIES WILL ASSIST, BUT THE

SENIOR DEACON IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE.

This committee is probably the backbone of the Lodge because of its charge; to instruct and

educate the candidates in the rituals and customs of Freemasonry and to instruct the

members in their presentation of the rituals. This committee will be dealing with the future

leadership of the Lodge and it is important to recognize future leaders early and encourage

their studies. The Lodge will surely suffer if the committee fails to live up to its duties. The

committee will be busy and will require assistance. Volunteer to assist in instructions and

attend the training sessions to improve your own skills. The committee's duties are:

13

Page 15: Justin David Hamilton - Liberty Masonic Lodge #48 AF&AMlibertylodge48.org/information_links/Justin David... · Justin David Hamilton Worshipful Master Celebrating 165 Years of Masonry

A. CONCERNING CANDIDATES

1. Make yourself personally acquainted with each candidate.

Each Entered Apprentice should be contacted prior to the night of his initiation and our

system of instruction, the payment of fees and dues, and his rights and privileges as an

E. A. explained to him.

2. Under no circumstances should a candidate appear for instruction and find no one

available to instruct him. This is inexcusable. If, in the event instructors cannot attend to

perform their duties, they should contact the candidate/pupil. A simple, courteous

telephone call could well be the difference between an interested candidate and a poor

prospect for our Lodge. We cannot take any chances by being careless and we owe it to

the pupil.

3. The chairman of this committee is responsible for accurate instruction at all times. The

Grand Laws provide a District Instructor and he may be called on to assist. A Brother

well-versed in Masonry should be assigned to work with the candidate until he has taken

his Master's proficiency.

4. The chairman shall have a personal knowledge of a Brother's proficiency before he is

examined in any degree. Poor examinations from poorly prepared candidates are a

disservice to the candidate, to the Lodge, and to Masonry.

5. It shall be the duty of the committee to instruct each newly raised Master Mason in

Lodge procedures: courtesy, customs, and laws. New Master Masons should be

instructed to study our By-Laws and the Grand Laws; they should be taught voting

procedures; parliamentary procedure as it works in Masonic Lodges; and what Lodge

officers do and why.

B. CONCERNING RITUAL INSTRUCTIONS

1. The committee will set aside a regular night for study and instruction. This can continue

to be our off-Thursday nights, or any evening convenient to the majority of the

committee.

2. This committee will assist the Degree Work Committee in assembling Degree Teams

and see that the team is prepared in the ritual.

3. The committee will also assist the Lodge Officers in learning the rituals properly.

This committee works with the Lodge's officers and future officers. A Lodge is no better

than its officers and it is necessary that we set standards for our officers and demand

that they rise to them. Under a Grand Master's Edict of 1989, all officers-elect are to be

proficient in opening and closing all Lodges, as well as be competent in Lodge

administration by 1992. The development of this program is one that should be top

priority each year. The goals of this committee are:

1. To develop and prepare a training program based on material issued by Grand Lodge,

e.g. L. I. F. E. and A.L.L.

2. To regularly schedule meetings for presenting the program to all Lodge officers and

interested members.

3. To involve all members that show an interest in the program and prepare them to

assume future leadership roles.

4. To invite and encourage neighboring Lodges to participate in the program.

Liberty Lodge has a proud and time-honored history of accomplishment in the community

and this fact can be used as a departure point for many worthwhile projects and programs.

We've recently seen how valuable our past has been in promoting the present through the

Branch Awards and the Historical Marker Dedications. We can extend this further. This

committee's goals are:

1. To locate the grave site of all Charter Members and see that they are properly marked.

2. Investigate the history of the Lodge through the Sam Houston Regional Library and the

Grand Lodge Library for a possible History of Liberty Lodge Pamphlet, for Lodge

programs, news articles, etc.

17

Page 19: Justin David Hamilton - Liberty Masonic Lodge #48 AF&AMlibertylodge48.org/information_links/Justin David... · Justin David Hamilton Worshipful Master Celebrating 165 Years of Masonry

3. See that the gravesites of all deceased Brethren buried in Liberty County are marked and

maintained on an annual basis, if necessary.

4. Any other project which the committee feels is viable and the Lodge approves.

might present her with one at the next annual dinner.
