Dear KAP and YAC members!

Warm Greetings for Holi and our new year Cheti Chand. May this New Year bring you cheer and colour with good health always.

The year gone by has been a year of Resilience and Recovery from the challenges faced by all of us due to the pandemic. But when I look around I find our community has risen to the occasion and has converted every weakness into strength. We have learnt from the shining example of the Amil

community surviving and reviving the partition bravely and having done extremely well in every profession that they pursued.

So this year will be the Year of Resurgence and Reinvention when once again the strong DNA of the Amil Community will help us conquer all challenges.

Please take care of your health and stay safe.

Warm Regards, Dr. Indu Shahani

Dr. K.H. Mansukhani, President, HSNC Board, has taken lots of efforts in getting sanction form Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai for naming of roads/chowks after Sindhi stalwarts who had contributed to the Society and our HSNC Board. How the idea of naming of the roads / chowks occur to him, he narrates:

Mr. Mansukhani realised that young man was getting at. He thought the people who founded colleges, who had sacrificed their personal comfort and dedicated their lives to HSNC Board and the cause of Education will soon be forgotten.

To recognise their contribution to the Society & our Board, he started communicating with Municipal Corporation for sanction of naming of roads after Sindhi stalwarts who contributed immensely to our HSNC Board. Justice H.K. Chainani was one of eminent Sindhi personality whose contribution is immense to the Society and HSNC Board.

In last few years, Mr. Mansukhani was able to get sanction of naming of Roads in honour of Barrister Hotchand Advani, Advocate Nari Gursahani and Jotu Kundnani Chowk near R.D. National College, Bandra. He also got sanction naming of Vidyasagar Principal K.M. Kundnani Chowk outside K.C. College

Honouring Justice H.K. Chainani, the Municipal Corporation of Greater thMumbai, named 36 Road, TPS III, Bandra (West), Mumbai, as “Justice H.K.

Chainani Road” for his valuable services to the Society. The Road naming ceremony took place at R.D. National College. The approval for naming of the road from Municipal Corporation came in 2018. However, due to some unavoidable circumstances, the naming ceremony was delayed and held now.

Justice Chainani graduated from Cambridge University with B.A. Degree in Natural Science. In 1925, he cleared ICS exam with flying colours. He was appointed as Assistant Collector and posted at Sholapur and subsequently at Nasik and then at Pune. He was one of the rare ICS Officers whose services were utilised in the Judiciary Field.

In 1948, he was appointed as a Judge of the Bombay High Court and selected as the Chief Justice in 1958. During his tenure he was also twice held office of the Acting Governor of Maharashtra State. He was the only ICS Officer without a Law Degree to be not only on bench of High Court but also the Chief Justice. During his tenure as Governor, he opened the doors of Raj Bhavan for the first time to common citizens by arranging 'At Home' in their honour so that they could visit and enjoy the grounds of Raj Bhavan. He was keenly interested in education. He was Vice President of HSNC Board.

thThe program was held on 4 March, 2021 at R.D. National College. It was attended by daughter, two granddaughters and other relatives of Justice Chainani. Mr. Asif Zakaria, Corporator, Former Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Ms. Swapna Mhatre were also present at the event. Dr. K H Mansukhani, President, HSNC Board and Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani,

Trustee, HSNC Board and Principals of HSNC Board's colleges attended

the program. Mr. Ashok Advani of Business India was also present.

YAC today has become a great organization, I recollect the journey of 12 years when YAC took a second birth. It was in the year 2009-10 when our KAP president Dr Indu Shahani took the initiative to reconstruct and instil in us that we are the pillars of tomorrow's KAP. How can a mere direction shape an organization only a true leader can foresee.

I distinctly remember our first get-togethers of YAC being held in Radio Club in Colaba. We all had dreams and aspirations in our eyes, we were confident we will make this great one day. Our journey started with reconstituting new views and generating new ideas. I secretly thanked my late grandfather Mr Naraindas S Advani who used to take us to attend the AGM at Sun-n-Sand when I was 8 or 9 years old, and there is where I started to get familiar to our community people and took pride that I belong to a go-getter Amil community.

I started getting more connected when I realised that I am indeed waiting for our monthly newspaper Saraswati (now Amil Samachar) to go through the pictures in the paper and the quotes at the bottom.

My deep instinct pulled me towards this organization and I kept on getting more and more involved. Our President Dr Indu shahani had a great influence in my being associated with the Panchayat. She became my inspiration. It was with zest and gusto that we all would take on as many projects and we put out heart and soul for a social cause, putting the cause above oneself. This is where I got to understand the value of team and teamwork and the meaning of a good leadership.

I also realized the impact of having fun in any undertaking be it medical camps, visiting old age homes, visiting orphanage homes,, fun-filled Treasurer Hunts, Musical chairs, Sindhi Movie screening, volunteering the AGM, clothes donation, book launch and so many that it was my life revolving YAC. I in this journey grew myself inwardly in many ways, became more dynamic, resilient, gaining confidence, more focused, patience, tolerance and what not.

And moreover gave me the much needed acceptance rising from the managing committee of YAC to secretary and now to Vice President. And this all could not have been achieved without the guidance and direction of our KAP president Dr Indu Shahani and I attribute this to the support of each and every KAP managing committee members and office bearers.

I would be completing my journey with YAC this year and I would encourage all youngsters to come forward to connect with this organization, it is no doubt a life fulfilling experience.

Sindhis have established themselves not only in India but worldwide and made a great name excelling in every field. There is hardly any area of profession where they have not made their mark. In absence of our own state Sindhi's have taken to the globe and made it their own haven. But being scattered all over the globe, it's more imperative for all Sindhis to be connected. This makes it more formidable for Mrs. Heena Shadadpuri to think out of the box.

As part of the initiative, she recently conceived the idea of Mrs. Sindhi Global Beauty Pageant as well as Global Sindhi Grandma Pageant. She through her organization served the community in every possible manner during the lockdown, but what was missing was the connection. "Our motto has been to remain connected" she emphasizes. Getting connected through musical programs' and bhajans are passé, the new and young generation wants something modern something like the older generation grandma can become modern by a walk on the ramp in an elite style.

Once conceived of the idea, it was a challenge to execute it in a way to make it possible to connect with all the participants from across the world. The bigger challenge she foresaw was embracing online digital technology and connecting all the people from different time zone. "We have Sindhis spread all over the world, be it Spain, UK, US,

Canada, Africa, Middle East, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, and many others, we had around 60 participants from all over, getting them trained and cajoled as they were in the higher age group was a big challenge, one participant was 77 years old, to train and prepare her was intriguing and exciting, we were literally working round the clock at different timings of different countries. We managed to complete the entire show from start to finish in 50 days, which was telecast on Facebook live". Heena enumerates.

There were 11 jury members, the likes of Mrs. Maya Shahani, Pahlaj Nihalani, Priti Jhangiani, Sharad Jagtiani, Nisha & Satish Raisinghani, Chander Manghnani, Manish Raisinghani, Ramola Motwani, Shobha Kalro, Bharti Kalro, Hanisha Alwani, Ritu Tejwani, Rita Gangwani, Jawahar Kotwani, most of the jury members were based abroad. Heena swanks "Everyone chipped in their might, for instance, Priti Jhangiani who had guests at home, but still managed to devote her time, Manish Raisinghani a nonspeaking Sindhi wouldn't have ever spoken Sindhi, managed to conduct his talks in Sindhi, it was his mother's influence he explains."

A special mention of Mr. Shankar Lalwani an MP from Indore as a Chief Guest, he was so inspired by the show that he was present till 1.30 am along with all the jury members on the finale.

Our KAP Managing Committee member Mr. Pradeep Gidwani played a significant role and support. He was quite instrumental in connecting and coordinating with the technical support.

This event was designed not only to showcase successful and enterprising Sindhi women of different age groups in different walks of life but also to serve as a platform in bringing them together through the internationally acclaimed Diler Sindhi organization that has thus enabled the global Sindhi community's efforts to scale new heights. The highlights were the contest where the questions were pertaining to promote the language and the culture.

"What makes it so satisfying was the success of the show such that people from across the globe still rant', saying it was as good as an IIFA awards", Exclaims Heena. No doubt Heena was bestowed with an award as The First Beauty Pageant Conducted for Sindhi Community (Virtual) from the HIGH RANGE Book of World Records.

Mrs Shadadpuri's determined attempts to connect Sindhi professionals around the world with the aim to inform and educate future generations about their heritage is highly commendable and exemplary especially during the Covid lockdown period. She did this by diligently selecting and transcribing success stories of Sindhi role models who struggled against all odds after the Partition to make a name and place for themselves in the new, emerging, and free India.

At the forefront of Sindhi language and culture promotion, she has used her creativity and enthusiasm to spread the word about Sindhi customs and traditions; an endeavor in which she has achieved tremendous success. Her dynamism is quite laudable.

If there is one thing after putting your might in your career and being an all-rounder of any type of

ceremonial events or wedding ceremonies around the world, then it was this event that you long

for. It was very exciting to work with Heenaji for this magnificent onscreen show of Virtual Diler

Sindhi Beauty Pageant show.

My connection with Sindhi people abroad and technical staff to set up this type of online show

and coordinating with them regularly was extremely effectuating.

Initially many elderly ladies were very apprehensive, not wanting to take part in the show but I

just needed to coax them saying Heena wants to show that even elderly ladies have got skills, it's

the platform to expose their new talents - At any age or stage it's not over in your life yet, there's

plenty still left in you.

It was marvelous working with Heenaji, she is a magnificent lady who deserves special mention,

she's a go getter and a 'Woman of Substance', she does all that she can to see the project

succeed and with perfection. It was extremely gratifying to be with her in this project.

Amongst the many other interesting things that I stirred up in the pandemic was an enjoyable and exciting recent activity that I participated in the Diler Sindhi Global Grandma Beauty Pageant. It was a virtual event bringing alive 'glamour and excitement with a purpose'.

It gave me immense joy as I partook in the hectic and fully loaded month of brilliant online activity while networking with fellow participants, jury, and philanthropists from all over the world!!

The live program... tickets were available on the 'book my show' site, thus shrinking a huge global audience into a TV screen!

The highlight of my participation in this global event was promoting Sindhi culture and language..... a sentiment so close to my heart, which my family wholeheartedly fortified!!

Shy as I felt, I am very grateful for all the heartening encouragement I got from my fellow committee members! Our secretary Srikant Shivdasani introduced me to the event through a flyer which he sent to me......I look back with joy as I reminisce the exceeding encouragement from Pradeep Gidwani and Ramesh Mansukhani!

I was also very motivated by all other committee members whose words of encouragement meant the world to me!

What a lovely family you all made!Thank you!

Life has an awesome opportunity by getting better and better and getting

even younger with age. All over the world a common denominator to

measure one's achievements and milestones is to correlate to one's age. But

we do come across individuals who have an attitude to defy all norms and

live life to their terms. What can one achieve with advancing age or at what

age does one really hang up their boots? Let's find out from Mala

Mansukhani.

A fashion designer by profession and a founder of Grow Younger - a wellness

and fitness group for senior citizens & Author of Grow Younger book, Mala is

also the Chairperson of Women Empowerment Welfare Committee (RGAA)

and the Director of Fitness at National Council For Promotion Of Sindhi

Language. The only grandmother to walk on the ramp for Mrs. Gladrags,

in the year 2006 and also bagged a Courageous title award.

Mala never shies away from taking challenges. She took up a challenge to take

her fitness to a higher level and complete the Commando Survival Training in

February 2021. Her description of crossing the valley in her training session is

spine chilling, "all odds were against us, the winds were lashing against us, it was

extremely cold and the terrain was uneven, I was scared if I could make it, it is just

that you need to be mentally, physically and spiritually strong, I believe all women

are basically very strong if only they can just put in their extra gut, emphasizes

Mala.

The 62 years old Mala has three daughters and five grandchildren, she keeps

challenging her own self, always evaluating and evolving. "I have always

searched for excitement in my life and never set any limitations on myself, this has

transformed me. I started running for the marathon since I was 47, I have trained my body, done cross

fitness, have a passion for swimming, gymming, playing badminton and chess, and at present

undergoing the Yoga Teachers Training program in Rishikesh."

Her real inspiration came when some years back, a 70-year-old shook off her

depression and walked the fashion ramp....and then some months back, a 68-year-

old, suffering from polio, came out into the sunshine after 40 years of self-exile in a

dark room... A few weeks before that, a 74-year-old shook her age off and got on to

the dance floor... "These such incidents give me an overwhelming power." Says

Mala.

"I made them do it. But maybe those are not the right words. I didn't exactly make

them do it....I just nudged them a bit, I coaxed them, I cajoled them, even scolded

them a bit as a parent would scold a child...And the child in them

responded. These such motivations makes me move stronger."

“There's a child in all of us, no matter how old the body becomes,

now our nanas' and naanis' and our dadas' and dadis' are our

children, they are our `older' children. And they need us. And I

want to be there for them because they were there for us."

"I know some of you want to hold your parents' hands but can't get off

the high-speed roller-coaster of life. I have decided to make time for our

older children. And that's why I started the `Grow Younger' fitness

group. Grow Younger is my most proud endeavor and it's focused on

promoting fitness and good health among women above the age of 50

years. I work with senior citizens and show them the way to reclaim their

youth. We have done stage shows, we sing, dance, play, talk, learn new

skills, and, surprisingly, they have enriched my life more than I have

enriched theirs. For this reason, I am quite keen to conduct boot camps

for any clubs, gyms, or groups, you can be in touch on Instagram

@grow.younger or @malamansukhani"

"So if you know a nani who's been left alone or a daadi who wants to

start singing songs again or a dada-ji who longs for the days and the

friends he used to play marbles with, please introduce them to me. I

will try to help them grow younger @grow.younger"

As long you are not fixated on age, you can achieve anything

you put your mind into is her mantra.

HSNC Board's Thadomal Shahani Engineering College, Bandra, organized Degree Distribution Ceremony on 27th February, 2021, in Seminar Hall.

Dr. Kishu H Mansukhani, President, HSNC Board, was Chief Guest of the program.

In view of prevailing circumstances, around 100 students were awarded Degree at the hands of Dr. Mansukhani. While congratulating the young graduates, he advised them:

"Learning is a continuous process. The pace of change has never been so high as it is today. Today we face disruptive forces; especially the challenge of staying abreast of technology. Thus need for constant learning and re-learning is an absolute necessity. Knowledge is weapon.

Knowledge is an investment, benefit of which can be enjoyed throughout the life.

If you have money or gold or any other element, you have fear of losing it. But if you convert your wealth in education & knowledge, it will remain with you throughout your life. Education cannot be stolen.

He also narrated few quotes of our former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

1. "Excellence is a continuous process and not an accident”

2. "If you want to shine like a sun, first burn like a sun.”

3. “Don't take rest after your first victory because if you fail in the second, more lips are waiting to say that your first victory was just a luck.”

4. "You have to dream before your dreams can come true.”

In the words of Gurudev Tagore "you can't cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the ocean".

Never give up your dreams and aspirations for it. Those aspirations will drive you to higher levels of achievements.

If you are prepared to think big and act in time with conviction, you will be rewarded. You should hold on to your goals even if you stumble here and there, and learn your lessons."
