For these offences, the fate of the person on trial is determined by twelve people, called jurors

All twelve people must vote unanimously to convict or acquit an individual

Anyone who is 18 or older and a Canadian citizen is eligible for jury duty

Anyone convicted of a crime is ineligible for jury duty

When summoned for jury duty citizens must comply or be held in contempt

Employers have to give you time off work for jury duty, but do not have to pay you
